  • Recently, according to the development of mechatronics industry that was composed of NT, ST, IT, RT and etc, the 1 necessity of nano-parts was increased. Because of the necessity, this research was started for improving work precision of the parts as fixing UPCU( Ultra Precision Cutting Unit)on lathe. So, in this research we executed the modeling of UPCU (Ultra Precision Cutting Unit) by the application of PZT, the relationship between the displacement of tool in UPCU and the cutting force of it has been in take a triangular position in the case of plane cutting. The modeling of system that is containing the fine displacement was performed. Also, we found like to find the optimal cutting condition through the simulation of relationship between the displacement and the cutting force.

  • In this study, a procedure for analyzing chip-tool friction and shear processes in 3-D cutting with a single point tool has been established. The edge of a single point tool including circular nose is modified to the equivalent straight edge, then 3-D cutting with a single point tool is reduced to equivalent oblique cutting. Transforming the conventional coordinate systems and using the measured three component of cutting forces, force components on the rake face and the shear plane of the equivalent oblique cutting system can be obtained. And it can be possible to assess the chip-tool friction and shear characteristics in 3-D cutting with a single point tool.

  • As a new approach to analyze shear behaviors in the shear plane and chip-tool friction behaviors in the chip-tool contact region during an end milling process, this paper introduces a method to transform an end milling process to an equivalent oblique cutting process. In this approach, varying undeformed chip thicknesses and cutting forces in the up-and down-end milling process are replaced with the equivalent ones of oblique cutting. Accordingly, in the current paper, the shear and friction characteristics of end milling operations, up- and down-end milling, have been analyzed based on the equivalent oblique cutting models. Two series of cutting tests, up- and down-end milling tests and the equivalent oblique cutting tests to that, have been carried out to verify the validity of the analyses. And using the results of cutting tests the cutting characteristics of the up- and down-end milling processes have been thoroughly investigated.

  • Two-dimensional cutting stock problem is to find a waste-minimizing method of cutting a single rectangular plane into a number of smaller pieces of known dimensions. In practice, besides wastes, setup cost taken during adjusting is of an important concern. We suggest 2-phased guillotine cutting method as a solution to the problem which minimize wastes and setup costs. Also, in order to reduce the computing time we apply techniques of discretization, cutoff, median. Experimental results show good performance of our algorithm.

  • The finite element method is applied to analyze the mechanism of metal cutting. This paper introduces some effects, such constitutive deformation laws of workpiece material, friction of tool-chip contact interfaces, tool rake angles and also simulate the cutting process, chip formation and geometry, tool-chip contact, reaction force of tool, cutting temperature. Under the usual [lane strain assumption, quasi-static analysis were performed with variation of tool-chip interface friction coefficients and rake angles. In this analysis, various cutting speeds and depth of cut are adopted. Some cutting parameters are affected to cutting force, plastic deformation of chip, shear plane angle, chip thickness and tool-chip contact length and reaction forces on tool. Cutting temperature and Thermal behavior. Several aspects of the metal cutting process predicted by the finite element analysis provide information about tool shape design and optimal cutting conditions.

  • An interactive multicriteria method, which is called the Modified Pairwise Comparison Stochastic Cutting Plane (MPCSCP) method, is proposed for determining the best levels of the integer decision variables needed to optimize a stochastic computer simulation with multiple response functions. MPCSCP combines good features from interactive tradeoff cutting plane methods and response surface methodologies. The proposed method uses a simple pairwise man-machine interaction and searches an integer space uniformly by using the experimental design which evaluates the decision space centering around an integer center point. The characteristics of the proposed method are investigated through an extensive computational study. The parameter configurations examined in the study are (1) variability of the sampling errors, (2) the size of experimental design, (3) the relaxation of cutting planes, and (4) the levels of decision maker's inconsistency.

  • In end milling process the underformed chip thickness and the cutting force components very periodically with phase change of the tool. In this study, up end milling process is transformed to the equivalent oblique cutting. The varying underformed chip thickness and the cutting force components in end milling process are replaced with the equivalent average ones. Then it can be possible to analyze the chip-tool friction and shear process in the shear plane of the end milling process by the equivalent oblique cutting mode. According to this analysis, when cutting Inconel 718.61% of the total energy is consumed in the shear process and the balance is consumed in the friction process.

  • Off-line feedrate scheduling is presented as the advanced technology to regulate cutting forces at the desired level through change of feedrates. In rough cutting, the feedrate scheduling aims at reducing the machining time, which is the most important factor for better productivity. Thus, the largest force which can avoid breakage of tool shank and tooth is a reference force for feedrate scheduling in rough cutting. In this paper, a calculation method of the reference cutting force for feedrate scheduling is developed. This model calculates rupture plane of tooth using the FEM analysis of a tool and computes the reference force using the transverse rupture strength of a tool. Experiments validate that the presented feedrate scheduling model reduced machining time drastically and regulate cutting forces at the reference cutting force.

  • In metal cutting various types of chips are produced in consequence of cutting conditions. Flow-type chips have been studied in most cases because they are easier to be analyzed, but the actual surfaces of chips are not smooth, but crushed. This paper deals with saw-toothed chips, special types of flow-type chips, which have deep concaves and high convexes and sharp angles on the free surface. I tried to establish the theory of saw-toothed chip mechanism through experimental observation, that is, the mathmatical model of the cutting energy and cutting mechanism through the geometrical observation of the chips by using a microscope. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The mechanism of saw-toothed chips is diffenent from that of general flow-chips. 2. In the case of saw-toothed chips, the shear angle must be measured by the hypotenuse angle and the rake angle, and the shear angle is more affected by the rake angle than by the hypotenbuse angle. 3. The friction angle is represented by .beta. = . pi. /4+ .alpha./ sub n/- .phi. which is different from Merchant's equation. 4. The pitch and the slip are greatly influenced by depth of cut, but the influence of the rake angle on it is small. 5. The normal stress and the shear stress on the shear plane decrease with the increase of the cutting depth, and they are almost independent on the variation of a rake angle. 6. The unit friction energy on the tool face, the unit shear energy on the shear plane, and the total cutting energy per unit volume decrease with the increase of rake angle and cutting depth.
