  • To establish a Altari radish pre-processing system far kimchi, the leaves and root tail of the Altari radish cutting de-vices were developed. The cutting resistances depend on the edge angles, oblique angles and cutting speeds were measured and analyzed. The experiments were performed to reveal the optimal conditions that showed the minimum cutting resistances acting on the materials. As the results, the optimum conditions that acting on the leaves were at edge angle $25^{\circ}$, oblique angle $40^{\circ}$ and cutting speed 0.5 m/s, and those acting on the root tails were at edge angle $20^{\circ}$, oblique angle $30^{\circ}$ and cutting speed 0.5 m/s, respectively. Considered a safety conception, the oblique angle of the leaves cutting device was adjusted as $20^{\circ}$, and then the cutting efficiencies of the both devices at these conditions were showed perfect performances.

This paper has been carried out to obtain cutting characteristics and optimal cutting conditions of the developed high speed feeding type laser cutting M/C by a design of experiments. Cutting speed. laser power. laser duty and gas pressure are control factors for the surface roughness. The major factors affecting the surface roughness and the optimum cutting conditions are studied with minimum experiments using Taguchi method.

  • In this study, expert system for the selection of the optimal cutting speed and feed rate was developed using NEXPERT system shell. The NC system has been usually used inefficiently because the input command, which contains cutting speed, feed-rate and the depth of cut, is fixed value which depends on principally operator's experience and machining handbooks providing a guideline for applicable ranges. On the other hand, the optimal cutting conditions vary with time, and depend on tool and machine characteristics, work materials, and cost factor and so on. In this study, if cutting factors, such as, cutting method, material type, cutting depth, and tool nose radius are specified, our expert system gets the information about the standard cutting speed form the cutting speed database, and provides optimum feed rate for these cutting conditions. This cutting speed database can be updated by inputting valid cutting speed which is obtained form the practices.

  • This paper focuses on a automation selection of optimal cutting conditions and cycle time for multi-spindle metal cutting machines based on machining parameters and tool change schemes which are the two most common terms used in the metal cutting. In this research we used two step generative approach, step 1 is mathematical modeling for the selection fo optimal cutting conditions and the other is GMDH-Type modeling to estimate the system performance evaluation. We developed computer programs for these models and the fitting manufacturing examples are applied to this model and it was shown that the proposed approach has a good potential and offers a valuable tools to analyse the metal cutting system.

  • If the on-line cutting conditions (e.g. speed, feedrate, radial and axal depth of cuts) can be identified in an end milling process, much information about cutting forces will be estimated from the cutting force model. Therefore, those estimated conditions can be applied to monitoring and control areas. In this paper, a real-time estimation algorithm for radial and axial depth of cuts is studied in end milling using the averaging cutting forces per tooth. The analytical estimation models of depth of cuts are derived from the geometric cutting force model. The validity of the estimation models is verified on a horizontal machining center through the experiments in various cutting conditions.

  • The experimental study was the cutting characteristics of non-ferrous metals. The experimental apparatus was used the turning machine and diamond tool. This aimed at lading the optimal cutting conditions by measuring surface farm and roughness. Used non-ferrous metals were aluminum, brass and oxygen-free copper. As well, according to changing cutting conditions such as feed rate by measuring cutting farce and surface roughness and according to cutting conditions the non-ferrous metals studied about cutting properties.

  • In this study, we put our object to carry out adaptive modeling of cutting process in turning system, and to find out the optimal cutting conditions to maximize material removal rate under some constraints. We used a back-propagation neural network to model the cutting process adaptively and a genetic algorithm to find out optimal cutting conditions. The experimental results show that a back-propagation neural network could model the cutting process effciently, and optimized cutting conditions for maximizing the material removal rate were obtained through the adaptive process model and genetic algorithms. Therefore, the proposed approach can be applied to the real machining system.

  • For the improvement of geometrical accuracy in end milling, cutting method and cutting condition selection are investigated in this paper. As machining processes are composed of several steps such as roughing, semi-finishing. and finishing, cutting forces and tool deflection are calculated considering surface shape generated by the previous cutting. The effects of tool teeth numbers, tool geometry, and cutting conditions on the form error are analyzed. Using the from error prediction method from tool deflection, cutting condition for geometrical accuracy improvement is discussed. The characteristics and the difference of generated surface shape in up and down milling are dealt with and over-cut free condition in up milling is presented. The form error reduction method by alternating up and down milling is also suggested. The effectiveness of the presented method is examined from a set of cutting tests under various cutting conditions. This research contributes to cutting process optimization for the geometrical accuracy improvement in die and mold manufacture.
