The optimum cutting condition of rake angle in turning was investigated in SM45C and SM20C. Results of experiments in SM45C and SM20C are as follow. Specific cutting resistance became higher as the depth of cutting, feed or cutting velocity decreases at same rake angle and resistance became low value at 20.deg.(SM45C), 10.deg.(SM20C). The optimum cutting condition for SM45C is depth of cutting 0.7mm, rake angle 30.deg., cutting velocity 200mm/min, feed 0.1mm/rev, and for SM20C is depth of cut 0.5mm, rake angle 10.deg., cutting velocity 150mm/min, feed 0.1mm/rev.The rake angle for good roughness is 15.deg for SM45C, and that for SM20C is 25.deg. The roughness is influenced by feed and it has the lowest value at 0.1mm/rev and the cutting condition is closely related with the change of cutting velocity and feed.

Using NC or CNC machine tool, the unmanned automatic production system has been growing recently in the manufacturing field. Thus it is important to find out the machinability of cutting force, tool wear and surface roughness during the cutting process. It is necessary to find how to estimate the machinability for the effective cutting condition because of problem about cutting power, tool wear, cutting time and precision. This study was planned to discover the relations of tool wear by variations of roughness and derived to correlate the wear with the surface roughness on the cutting parameter(cutting force, flank wear, surface roughness, friction angle, shear angle, slenderness ratio) when the aluminum alloy was cut in turning.

The purpose of this paper is to predict the cutting force, utilizing new model of double cutting edge which has normal rake angle and tool inclination angle. Changing side, back rake angle and side cutting edge angle in the new model. Three dimensional cutting force was obtained by the use of .eta. /c=i proposed by Stabler and energy method for three dimen- sional cutting force. Theoretical results has been calculated with development of optimization algorism which can be put into three dimensional theory, using the method of least square with orthogonal cutting data. IT is proved that three dimensional cutting force is to be predicted accurately only if orthogonal cutting force by equalizing theoretical result and experimental result has been calculated.

The objective of this research is to investigate the effect of clearance angle on cutting performance in high speed end milling operation. The tool geometry parameters have complex relationship with cutting process parameter. In order to explain the effect of clearance angle, 2D turning operation in lathe and end milling operations are performed. Tools with different clearance angles are manufactured. Cutting forces, machining accuracy and tool life are examined according to the change of clearance angle. As clearance angle increases, cutting force decreases and machining accuracy improves. But it has been proved that there exists the optimal clearance angle according to the diameter of end mill for maximum tool life which is measured by frank wear.

The finite element method is applied to analyze the mechanism of metal cutting, especially micro metal cutting. This paper introduces some effects, such as constitutive deformation laws of workpiece material, friction of tool-chip contact interfaces, tool rake angle and also simulate the cutting process, chip formation and geometry, tool-chip contact, reaction force of tool. Under the usual plane strain assumption, quasi-static analysis were performed with variation of tool-chip interface friction coefficients and tool rake angles. In this analysis, cutting speed, cutting depth set to 8m/sec, 0.02mm, respectively. Some cutting parameters are affected to cutting force, plastic deformation of chip, shear plane angle, chip thickness and tool-chip contact length and reaction forces on tool. Several aspects of the metal cutting process predicted by the finite element analysis provide information about tool shape design and optimal cutting conditions.

In the present industry, there is not only the cutting of iron metal, but also the cutting of alloy aluminum, brass and plastic to wood(Paulownia). A variety of material is used and these industry is made need of the cutting material but lots of experiments processing is not enough at the moment. At this point, our team processed the basic experiment about influencing of cutting angle of bite concerned to manufacture in the turning of non-iron metal. Generally speaking, we recognized that there was occurrence of increase of rough surface with increasing of cutting angle in the non-iron metal. but in the cutting of wood we knew, there was special change with change of cutting angle.

Radial immersion ratio is an important factor to determine the threshold in face milling and should be estimated in process for automatic force regulation. In this paper, presented is a method of on-line estimation of radial immersion ratio using cutting force. When a tooth finishes sweeping, sudden drop of cutting forces occurs. These force drops are equal to the cutting forces that act on a single tooth at the swept angle of cut and can be acquired from cutting force signals in feed and cross-feed directions. The ratio of cutting forces in feed and cross-feed directions acting on the single tooth at the swept angle of cut is a function of the swept angle of cut and the ratio of radial to tangential cutting force. In the research, it is found that the ratio of radial to tangential cutting force is not affected by cutting conditions and axial rake angle. Therefore, the ratio of radial to tangential cutting force determined by just one preliminary experiment can be used regardless of the cutting conditions. Using the measured cutting forces and predetermined ratio, the redial immersion ratio is estimated. various experiments show that the radial immersion ratio can be estimated by the proposed method very well.

In metal cutting various types of chips are produced in consequence of cutting conditions. Flow-type chips have been studied in most cases because they are easier to be analyzed, but the actual surfaces of chips are not smooth, but crushed. This paper deals with saw-toothed chips, special types of flow-type chips, which have deep concaves and high convexes and sharp angles on the free surface. I tried to establish the theory of saw-toothed chip mechanism through experimental observation, that is, the mathmatical model of the cutting energy and cutting mechanism through the geometrical observation of the chips by using a microscope. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The mechanism of saw-toothed chips is diffenent from that of general flow-chips. 2. In the case of saw-toothed chips, the shear angle must be measured by the hypotenuse angle and the rake angle, and the shear angle is more affected by the rake angle than by the hypotenbuse angle. 3. The friction angle is represented by .beta. = . pi. /4+ .alpha./ sub n/- .phi. which is different from Merchant's equation. 4. The pitch and the slip are greatly influenced by depth of cut, but the influence of the rake angle on it is small. 5. The normal stress and the shear stress on the shear plane decrease with the increase of the cutting depth, and they are almost independent on the variation of a rake angle. 6. The unit friction energy on the tool face, the unit shear energy on the shear plane, and the total cutting energy per unit volume decrease with the increase of rake angle and cutting depth.
The ball end mill is a type of cutting tool that is widely used to process complex mold shapes including aspheric surfaces. Unlike the flat end mill in which the cutting edge is formed on the cylindrical handle, the cutting edge is formed from the cylindrical handle to the hemispherical shape, which is advantageous for processing curved shapes. However, since the cutting speed continuously changes during machining due to the helix angle of the cutting edge or the machining inclination angle, it is difficult to obtain a precise machined surface. Therefore, in this paper, machining was performed while changing the helix angle of the ball end mill and the angle of the machining slope under the same cutting conditions for STD 11 material, which is widely used as a mold material. Through this, the effect of the two variables on the roughness of the machined surface was analyzed. As a result, if the helix angle was 0 degrees, it showed the best surface roughness of Ra. 0.16 ㎛. When the helix angle was 20 degrees, the best surface roughness of Ra. 0.18 ㎛ was occurred.

High speed machining is a key issue in die and mold manufacturing recently. Even though this technology has great potential of high productivity. tool wear accelerated by high cutting speed to the hardened materials is other barrier. In this research, we attempted to reduce tool wear by considering tool inclination angle between tool and workpiece. The boundary lines describing machined sculptured surfaces were represented by both of cutting envelop condition and the geometric relationship of successive tool paths. Chip cross section, and cutting length could be obtained from the calculated cutting edge and the rotational engagement angle. From the simulation results, machining inclination angle of tool of $15^\circ$ was good enough from the point of tool wear and cutting force, and this value was verified through the cutting experiment of high speed ball end milling.
