와이어 컷 방전가공이 효율적인 NC 모의가공 시스템의 개발 (On the Development of NC Simulator System for Wire Cut EDM)

  • This paper describes the NC simulator system for Wire-cut electrodischarge machining. Electrodischarge Wire-cut machining is applicable to all materials including metals, alloys, and most carbides. Although CAM system generate the NC code considering electrodischarge conditions, incorrect Wire-cut tool path bring about fatal results. The simplest way of simulating a EDM process is to display the trajectory of Wire-cutter location by line segments. With this kind of simulation, the programmer can get a general idea about whether the wire is moving as planned but cannot locate gouging or excess material because only the wire location will be seen, not the changes in the workpiece as it is machined. The ideal way of simulating the EDM process is to display the solid model of the workpiece as it is machined. Therefore we propose the ideal NC simulator system for Wire-cut EDM.

  • This paper describes the wire EDM (Electric Discharge Machining) CAM system considering a variable taper wire-cut and an unmanned wire EDM during the night. Wire EDM is applicable to all materials that are fairly good electrical conductors, including metals, alloys and most carbide. Thus it provides a relatively simple method for making holes of any desired cross section in materials that are too hard or brittle to be machined by most other methods. In this paper we classify variable taper wire-cut machining patterns and variable taper wire-cut geometries. Also we determine unmanned wire EDM patterns fur the productivity of wire EDM industry. Developed system consists of two modules: 1) Variable taper wire EDM module guarantees the length ratio machining function, the parametric ratio machining function and the marking function. 2) Unmanned wire EDM module guarantees the automatic wire EDM during the night. The proposed system has been tested in the fields and found to be a useful system.

  • This paper describes the database for wire cutting electrodischarge conditions and variable taper wire-cut Machining. Electodischarge wire-cut machining is applicable to all materials that are fairly good electrical conductors, including metals, alloys, and most carbides. Thus it provides a relatively simple method for making holes of any desired cross section in materials that are too hard or brittle to be machined by most other methods. In conventional wire cutting CAM systems usually generate the NC code omitting electrodischarge conditions, so operator edits the NC code manually. But it is very inefficient. Therefore in this paper we propose a wire cutting CAM system including database for electrodischarge conditions. Proposed system consists of three steps: 1) Development of database for electrodischarge conditions 2) Development of CAM functions, Including 2D CAD modeling tools, file I/O functions, wire path genera tion functions and postprocessor. 3) Development of variable taper wire-cut machining module. The proposed system has been tested in the JinYoung precision Machine Co.,LTD. and found to be working satisfactorily.

An Efficient No-Core Cut Pocketing CAM System for Wire-EDM

  • Recently, wire-EDM became a necessity for many engineering applications, particularly in the dies making. No-Core cut process is helpful for operations in which falling slug can jam the machine or wire. In this paper a proposed CAM system (called NCPP) is introduced, to overcome the limitations of the existing CAM systems in the machining of No-Core cut. The proposed CAM system (NCPP) provides pocketing of No-core cut and optimal selection of the position of starting hole (wire threading point), to minimize toolpath length. It was written for data exchange between CAD-CAM-CNC machines. This data model will become part of the ISO (Data model for Computerized Numerical Controllers) international standard. The NCPP system has been implemented in Visual C++. Many examples are used to illustrate NCPP system. The results show that, NCPP saves the machining time by significant value. This value depends on the shape and complexity of the workpiece that is being cut.

  • From the experimental study of wire-cut Electric Discharge Machining of alloyed tool steel and tungsten carbide, the characteristics such as cutting speed, surface roughness has been observed and evaluated for various conditions. Cutting speed is improved as peak discharge current and wire tension become increased, and gap voltage and spark cycle decreased. Surface roughness can be better when peak discharge current and gap voltage become smaller, or spark cycle and wire tension become larger. Secondary cut is recommended to obtain high precision and good quality.

  • In the experimental study, wire EDM was conducted for cold die steel by changing the Wire electrode, peak discharge current and number of finish cut. From the micro structure analysis of SEM photographs, the size of irregular welded and added component on the EDMed surface is decreasing and size of EDMed plane surface is increasing as the decreasing peak current and increasing number of finish cut. From the analysis of coating effect, Zn component is highly contained in Br and Zn Wire EDMed surface and copper component is highly contained in Br and Al wire EDMed surface. Hardness values are Increasing as the increasing peak current and decreasing the number of finish cut The value of hardness is decreasing as Cu, Al, Zn and Br wire electrode because of the residual austenite effect of solid solution copper on solidification, and finally EDMed surface has the highest hardness values for every wire electrode. Yield strength values becomes larger and bending strength values become smaller due to the increasing the hardness. These results are increased as increasing brittleness with hardness.

  • From the experimental study of wire-cut Electric Discharge Machining for alloyed steel and tungsten carbide, the characteristics such as hand drum form has been observed and evaluated for various conditions. Hand drum form can be improved when gap voltage and spark cycle become smaller, their thickness become thinner, wire tension become larger and number of cutting is done so many times. When wire-cut 60mm thickness tungsten carbide in normal condition, Hand drum form becomes larger due to the low conductivity inducing cobalt composite rising by electrolysis.

  • This paper presents a methodology for determining machining conditions in Electric Discharge Wire-Cut. Unification of two phase neural network approach with an automatic generation of machining parameters is designed. The first phase neural network, which is 1 to M backward-mapping neural net, produces approximate machining conditions. Using approximate conditions, all possible conditions are newly created by the proposed automatic generation procedure. The second phase neural net, which is a M to 1 forward-mapping neural net, determines the best one among the generated candidates. Simulation results with ANN are given to verify that the presenting methodology could apply for determining machining parameters in Electric Discharge Wire-Cut.
