  • We use iterative smoothing reconstruction method along with exploring in the parameter space of the light curves of the JLA supernova compilation (Joint Light-curve Analysis) to simultaneously reconstruct the expansion history of the universe as well as putting constrains on the light curve parameters without assuming any cosmological model. Our constraints on the light curve parameters of the JLA from our model-independent analysis seems to be closely in agreement with results assuming ΛCDM cosmology or using Chevallier-Polarski-Linder (CPL) parametrization for the equation of state of dark energy. This implies that there is no hidden significant feature in the data that could be neglected by cosmology model assumption. The reconstructed expansion history of the universe and properties of dark energy seems to be in good agreement with expectations of the standard ΛCDM model. Our results also indicate that the data allows a considerable flexibility for expansion history of the universe.

  • The NRCS-CN (Natural Resources Conservation Service-Curve Number) method has been practically applied for estimating the effective precipitation. However, there are no criteria which reflect the geographic characteristics of Korea having more than 70% of mountainous and rice paddy areas, leading to significant errors in runoff calculation. Thus, it is required to estimate the runoff curve number considered Korea land use classification, however there are practical difficulties to conduct the accurate research and experimentation. In this study, after selecting target areas (urban, agriculture, forest), we performed the runoff analysis to redetermine CN values for the selected basins. To do this, curve numbers for soil type A were estimated using genetic algorithm, and then curve numbers for soil type (B, C, D) were estimated using CN aligner equation. Comparing the initial curve numbers with the estimated curve numbers, it was observed that the slightly differences at Chunwang(0), Choonyang(-1), Janggi(-3). Through the above process, this study proposed new curve numbers to reflect observed rainfall-runoff.

  • Identifying students' achievement level and reflecting it on educational policy making or instructional improvement by analyzing the results of nationwide standardized assessment is an integral part of accountability in education. On the basis of this premise, we analyzed the characteristics of National Assessment of Educational Achievement (NAEA) items for middle school science subject conducted from 2010 to 2013 by using the option response rate distribution curve, the fittest graph estimated from the response rate of correct/incorrect options by achievement score. Furthermore, we classified the type of option response rate curve in terms of correct and incorrect options. Results of the analysis of option response curve showed that five types of correct option response curve (S-shaped, J-shaped, straight-shaped, F-shaped, and step-shaped) and 4 types of incorrect option response curve (down-slope, flat, mound, and up-slope) were identified. The most common type of items was the combination of S-shaped correct option response curve and down-slope incorrect option response curve, which are considered as appropriate items to discriminate the students according to achievement level. Moreover, correct option response was found to be correlated with incorrect option response. Based on the results, we also discussed some implications on teaching-learning method and classroom assessment in science education.

  • We assume that the existence and termination conjecture for flips holds. A complex projective manifold is said to be of almost general type if the intersection number of the canonical divisor with every very general curve is strictly positive. Let f be an algebraic fiber space from X to Y. Then the manifold X is of almost general type if every very general fiber F and the base space Y of f are of almost general type.

  • The seismic damage assessment due io the postulated earthquake was attempted for the buildings in the model district of Seoul City. The model district was selected to represent the typical structural and residential characteristics of Seoul City. The buildings in the model district were classified into 11 structural types. For each structural type, the capacity and fragility curves were constructed with parameters presented in HAZUS. The ground motions due to the postulated earthquakes were artificially generated and ground response analyses were done for three kinds of soil profiles classified with respect to the depth of surface soil layer. The probability of damage state of each structural type was calculated using capacity spectrum method and fragility curve. Finally, the calculated results were translated into GIS database and mapped to evaluate the seismic damage in the model district.

  • This paper considers the Jacobian variety of a hyperelliptic curve over a finite field with mixed symmetric formal type. We present the Newton polygon of the characteristic polynomial of the Frobenius endomorphism of the Jacobian variety. It gives a useful tool for finding the local decomposition of the Jacobian variety into isotypic components.

  • In this paper, we have defined bicomplex valued functions of bounded variations and rectifiable hyperbolic path. We have studied the integration of product-type bicomplex valued functions on rectifiable hyperbolic path. Also we have established bicomplex analogue of the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus for hyperbolic line integral.

  • Mesh selection analysis for the trawl net were carried out at the Southern Korean Sea and the East China Sea during the 1992-1994 years by the training ship Seabada of the National Fisheries University of Pusan, using A type (51.2mm), B type (70.2mm), C type (77.6mm), D type (88.0mm) square mesh cod-ends. The fishing trials were made using bottom trawl of the trouser type cod-end with cover net. Selection curves and selection parameters were calculated by a logistic model for Sphyraena pinguis, Pampus argenteus, Trachurus japonicus, Pagrus major, Callanthias japonicus, Trichiurus lepturus. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Red barracuda : Selection range and fifty percent selection length in the A type was 115.8mm, 292.8mm, respectively. 2. Harvest fish : Each selection range and fifty percent selection length in the B. C. and D type was 37.7mm, 113.8mm : 40.1mm, 131.7mm and 64.8mm, 148.6mm, respectively. Selection parameters of master curve were : slope, 3.81 : intercept, -6.4. Optimum mesh size was 89.3mm. 3.
