  • Purpose: Most stomach surgeons have been educated sufficiently in conventional open distal gastrectomy (ODG) but insufficiently in laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy (LADG). We compared learning curves and clinical outcomes between ODG and LADG by a single surgeon who had sufficient education of ODG and insufficient education of LADG. Materials and Methods: ODG (90 patients, January through September, 2004) and LADG groups (90 patients, June 2006 to June 2007) were compared. The learning curve was assessed with the mean number of retrieved lymph nodes, operation time, and postoperative morbidity/mortality. Results: Mean operation time was 168.3 minutes for ODG and 183.6 minutes for LADG. The mean number of retrieved lymph nodes was 37.9. Up to about the 20th to 25th cases, the slope decrease in the learning curve for LADG was more apparent than for ODG, although they both reached plateaus after the 50th cases. The mean number of retrieved lymph nodes reached the overall mean after the 30th and 40th cases for ODG and LADG, respectively. For ODG, complications were evenly distributed throughout the subgroups, whereas for LADG, complications occurred in 10 (33.3%) of the first 30 cases. Conclusions: Compared with conventional ODG, LADG is feasible, in particular for a surgeon who has had much experience with conventional ODG, although LADG required more operative time, slightly more time to get adequately retrieved lymph nodes and more complications. However, there were more minor problems in the first 30 LADG than ODG cases. The unfavorable results for LADG can be overcome easily through an adequate training program for LADG.

  • The objective of this study is to present a methodology for estimating runoff curve number(CN) using SWAT model which is capable of reflecting watershed heterogeneity such as climate condition, land use, soil type. The proposed CN estimation method is based on the asymptotic CN method and particularly, it uses surface flow data simulated by SWAT. This method has advantages to estimate spatial CN values according to subbasin division and to reflect watershed characteristics because the calibration process has been made by matching the measured and simulated streamflows. Furthermore, the method is not sensitive to rainfall-runoff data since CN estimation is on a daily basis. The SWAT based CN estimation method is applied to Chungju dam watershed. The regression equation of the estimated CN that exponentially decays with the increase of rainfall is presented.

  • The objective of this study was to compare the goodness of fit of four lactation curve models: Wood's Gamma model (WD), Wilmink (WL), and Pollott's multiplicative two (POL2) and three parameters (POL3) and to determine the environmental factors affecting the complete lactation curve of F1 dairy sheep under organic management. A total of 5,382 weekly milk yields records from 150 ewes, under organic management were used. Residual mean square (RMS), determination coefficients ($R^2$), and correlation (r) analysis were used as an indicator of goodness of fit for each model. WL model best fitted the lactation curves as indicated by the lower RMS values (0.019), followed by WD (0.023), POL2 (0.025) and POL3 (0.029). The four models provided total milk yield (TMY) estimations that were highly correlated (0.93 to 0.97) with observed TMY (89.9 kg). The four models under estimated peak yield (PY), whereas POL2 and POL3 gave nearer peak time lactation estimations. Ewes lambing in autumn had higher TMY and showed a typical curve shape. Higher TMY were recorded in second and third lambing. Season of lambing, number of lambing and type of lambing had a great influenced over TMY shaping the complete lactation curve of F1 dairy sheep. In general terms WL model showed the best fit to the F1 dairy sheep lactation curve under organic management.

  • This paper proposes a method to extract the content curve that reflects changes in video content from the MPEG video in the compressed domain, and also describes a video summary generation technique which can read video effectively and rapidly from the content curve. Existing video summary techniques have a disadvantage of taking significant amount of time to generate the video summary due to complex calculations in the decoding process. Moreover, the existing techniques, which use video content curve, require to perform many calculations to process the high dimensional content curve. However, the proposed technique generates video summary fast via the linear approximation of the proposed curve, after extraction the two dimensional content curve directly. In addition, the proposed technique has a merit that the user can set any number of key-frames and amount of calculation that form the video summary.

  • The rating curve is required to convert measured stage into a discharge and is developed using the measurement. In the development of the rating curve, the segmentation position is determined by considering the hydraulic characteristic and channel shape, and subjective judgment of the Hydrographer may intervene in this process. The segmentation position is so important that it determines the overall form of the rating curve, and the incorrect segmentation can cause errors in the rating curve, especially in extrapolation. In order to develop an accurate rating curve with a small number of measurements, the sections must be divided by considering hydraulic characteristic such as the cross-sectional shape. In this study, hydraulic examination methods such as stage-mean velocity, stage-area, stage-${\sqrt{Q}}$ investigated and supplemented to eliminate subjectivity in segmental positioning. Appropriateness for the segmentation position was verify in consideration of the physical meaning of the rating curve index (c).

  • The Cylindrical Shell Equation is one of the fundamental tools in the study of the noise analysis in the cylindrical shell. Therefore, lot of the acousticians induced many cylindrical shell motion equations.[1] In the Reference[6], we introduced the newly induced cylindrical Shell Equation and Junger and Feit's shell equation[5], and computed the free wave number with the linear Equation with the supposed solution, in the case of the free motion of the shell. In this paper, we compared above cylindrical shell equations by using dispersion curve of free wave number and we describe the physical mean for the dispersion curve with ring-frequency and ring-extention-frequency. With this result, we proves the useful of a newly induced cylindrical shell equation and we can analyse the Structure-Borne Sound of the shell with this equation in the application.

  • Risk level for each construction work can be very important factors to establish advanced preventionmeasures. But it is important how to produce it. There are three different methods to set it up for consturuction situation. They are as follows; 1) occurrence frequency = the number of accident workers of each work kind / yearly accident workers 2) occurrence frequency = the number of accident workers of each work kind / yearly workers 3) occurrence frequency = the number of accident workers of each work kind / the total workers All these three concepts(=averaged concept)are analyzed. Additionally frequency based on discrete curve, and severity based on continuous curve are also combined for producing risk level with more scientific approach. This risk level can be very useful to make prevention plan or take measures at construction sites. This is study result can change existing risk level concept to new concept of it, namely rail way work and in-water work showed be high risk level and RC work be low risk level, different from the situation which we have thought commonly, so far.

  • In this study, the numerical investigation of nonlinear flow in a porous medium was carried out. The applied numerical model is ANSYS CFX which is a three-dimensional fluid dynamic model, and the verification of this model was carried out by using the experimental data obtained from Mayer et al works(2011). The experimental and numerical results of velocity and Reynolds number-friction coefficient relationship show relatively a good agreement. Based on the experimental results, we analysed numerically the velocity and Reynolds number-friction coefficient relationship with the variation of permeability, dynamic viscosity and porosity and quantitatively the variation by applying the best curve fitting for each case.

  • This paper presents a new high-efficient algorithm and architecture for an elliptic curve cryptographic processor. To reduce the computational complexity, novel modified Lopez-Dahab scalar point multiplication and left-to-right algorithms are proposed for point multiplication operation. Moreover, bit-serial Galois-field multiplication is used in order to decrease hardware complexity. The field multiplication operations are performed in parallel to improve system latency. As a result, our approach can reduce hardware costs, while the total time required for point multiplication is kept to a reasonable amount. The results on a Xilinx Virtex-5, Virtex-7 FPGAs and VLSI implementation show that the proposed architecture has less hardware complexity, number of clock cycles and higher efficiency than the previous works.
