Collection of data on several variables, especially in the field of medicine, results in the problem of measurement errors. The presence of such measurement errors may influence the outcomes or estimates of the parameter in the model. In classification scenario, the presence of measurement errors will affect the intrinsic cum summary measures of Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curve. In the context of ROC curve, only a few researchers have attempted to study the problem of measurement errors in estimating the area under their respective ROC curves in the framework of univariate setup. In this paper, we work on the estimation of area under the multivariate ROC curve in the presence of measurement errors. The proposed work is supported with a real dataset and simulation studies. Results show that the proposed bias-corrected estimator helps in correcting the AUC with minimum bias and minimum mean square error.
Quite often we have a lot of measurement data and would like to find some relation between them. One common task is to see whether some measured data or a curve of known shape fit into the cumulative measured data. The problem can be visualized since data could generally be presented as curves or planes in Cartesian coordinates where each curve could be represented as a vector. In most cases we have measured the cumulative 'curve', we know shapes of other 'curves' and would like to determine unknown coefficients that multiply the known shapes in order to match the measured cumulative 'curve'. This problem could be presented in more complex variants, e.g., a constant could be added, some missing (unknown) data vector could be added to the measured summary vector, and instead of constant factors we could have polynomials, etc. All of them could be solved with slightly extended version of the procedure presented in the sequel. Solution procedure could be devised by reformulating the problem as a measurement problem and applying the generalized inverse of the measurement matrix. Measurement problem often has some errors involved in the measurement data but the least squares method that is comprised in the formulation quite successfully addresses the problem. Numerical examples illustrate the solution procedure.

This study discusses the issues related to the accuracy of deflection measurement and unstable energy in the testing of FRC. Some deflection methods may include large extraneous deformations. A faulty load-deflection curve will be obtained if an unstable deflection measuring system is used, and inaccurate toughness evaluation can result from this faulty curve. Some load-deflection curve of FRC may be attributed to unstable region of the load-deflection curve. If the unstable region is not correctly evaluated toughness indices from the curve would inappropriately represent true indices. In this paper, the discussion will focus on the effects of the deflection measuring system both on the measurement of the load-deflection response of FRC and the evaluation of FRC toughness and the effects of the unstable region and the management method of unstable region on toughness evaluation of FRC. It is observed that ASTM toughness indices which is based on measured deflection at first cracking is influenced significantly by extraneous deformation of deflection measurement. Extraneous deformation in deflection measurement, however result in negligible errors in toughness evaluation if JSCE and JCI definitions are used.

To understand adhesive phenomena, we need to get force curve between two surfaces. And it is said that high stiffness force analysis system is needed to get precise force curve and more information of the surfaces. Usually the stiffness of the force measurement system is under the order of 10N/m. The stiffer force measurement system, however, results in more information on the surface, because higher stiffness lead to the wider range of force curves, secondly because the force curve obtained through the stiffer one describes more precise relationship between relative tip-sample separation and interaction force. In this paper, considering for stiffness and resolution, the cantilever was designed and we made adhesion force measurement apparatus with high stiffness and high resolution, so we measured adhesive force between Ag-ball and wafer.
Line-laser beams are used for depth measurement of welding beads along the circumference of a pipe. For this, first we project a line-laser beam on an rotating pipe and take a sequence of images of the beam projected on the pipe using a CCD camera. Second, the projected line laser beam in each image is detected, converted into a thin curve. Finally measure the distance between the thinned curve and an imaginary line. When a line-laser beam is projected to a rough metal surface such as arc welding beads, the beam is severely scattered. This severe scattering makes the thinned curve perturbed. In this paper, we propose a thinning method robust against scattering of line lasers. First, we extract a projected line laser beam region using an adaptive threshold. Second, we model a thinned curve with a spline curve with control points. Next, we adjust the control points to fit the curve to the projected line-laser beam. Finally, we take a weighted mean of thin curves on a sequence of image frames. Experiments shows that the proposed thinning method results in a thinning curve, which is smooth and fit to the projected line-laser beam with small error.

A laboratory study on low frequency noise assessment has been carried out to evaluate the relevance of the weighting curve. Especially, the A-weighting curve which is used in most noise assessments has been evaluated using the acceptability limit in this study. The acceptability limit is one of the indicators in which the subjective responses were well-reflected. For the measurement of the acceptability limit, pure tone stimuli were used in the frequency range between 20 and 200 Hz. The measurement was proceeded in the anechoic chamber to minimize the background noise level. A total of 29 test subjects, who were aged between 19 to 33 years, participated in this study. They had been exposed to various stimuli for about 1 hour by supra-aural earphone. The measurement consisted of two listening sessions: hearing threshold and the acceptability limit session. The results showed that the tendency of the acceptability limit curve was approximately equal to C-weighting curve which had been found to be superior to A-weighting curve in assessment of low frequencies.
In this paper presents an accurate AFM used that is free from the Z-directional distortion of a servo actuator is described. Two mathematical correction methods by the in-situ self-calibrationare employed in this AFM. One is the method by the integration, and the other is the method by inverse function of the calibration curve. The in situ self-calibration method by the integration, the derivative of the calibration curve function of the PZT actuator is calculated from the profile measurement data sets which are obtained by repeating measurements after a small Z-directional shift. Input displacement at each sampling point is approximately estimated first by using a straight calibration line. The derivative is integrated with reference to the approximate input to obtain the approximate calibration curve. Then the approximation of the input value of each sampling point is improved using the obtained calibration curve. Next the integral of the derivative is improved using the newly estimated input values. As a result of repeating these improving process, the calibration curve converges to the correct one, and the distortion of the AFM image can be corrected. In the in situ self-calibration through evaluating the inverse function of the calibration curve, the profile measurement data sets were used during the data processing technique. Principles and experimental results of the two methods are presented.

This study discusses the issues related to the accuracy of deflection measurement in the testing of FRC. Some deflection methods may include large extraneous deformations. such as local crushing at the loading points, elastic and inelastic deformations of the loading fixture, etc. A faulty load-deflection curve will be obtained if an unstable deflection measuring system is used, and incorrect toughness evaluation can be reached on the basis of this faulty curve. In this paper, the discussion will focus on the effects of the deflection measuring system on both the measurement of the load-deflection response of FRC and the evaluation of FRC toughness. It is observed that ASTM toughness indices which is based on measuring deflection at first cracking is influenced significantly by extraneous deformation in deflection measurement. But extraneous deformation in deflection measurement result in negligible errors in toughness evaluation using JSCE and JCI definition. However, in order to evaluate toughness accuracy, it is desirable to use net load-deflection curve eliminated extraneous deformation.

Many studies for measuring vibration using image signal are suggested. These methods can measure vibration of multi-points simultaneously. However, it has the disadvantage that is very sensitive to an environment. If the measured environment is not good, image signals can be measured including much background noise. So, it is difficult to obtain accurate vibration from the measured image signals. Another problem is that camera imaging has a resolution limit. Because the resolution of the camera image is relatively much lower than that of a data acquisition system, accurate measuring vibration cannot be performed. In this paper, we proposed the enhanced technique for measuring vibration using camera signal. The key word of this paper is a curve fitting. The curve fitting can exactly detect the measurement line of interested object. So, we can measure the vibration in noisy environment. Also, it can overcome the resolution limit.

In order to serve the exact torque clamping force, the torque measurement system use the curve fitting algorithm by the least square. The corrected least square curve fitting algorithm which suggested in this paper can surpport more exact clamping force for fastner in variable industry field using the torque. At first, This paper introduces mathematical modeling for curve fitting algorithm, and simulate it. As a result, the corrected least square algorithm have shown lower standard error value than that of the used algoritm with torque, and so this corrected least square algorithm prove high accuracy than nomal least square algorithm. The suggested algorithm will contribute to improvement of cost and safety on industry field with bolt clamping force for precision industry parts, electronics parts, aircraft, aerospace, etc.
