  • The traditional method of manipulation of knots and degrees gives poor quality of surface, if compatibility of input curves is not good enough. In this work, a new algorithm of multiple refitting of curves has been developed using minimum energy based formulation to get compatible curves for skinning. The present technique first reduces the number of control points and gives smoother surface for given accuracy and the surface obtained is then skinned by compatible curves. This technique is very useful to reduce data size when a large number of data have to be handled. Energy based technique is suitable for approximating the missing data. The volumetric information can also be obtained from the surface data for analysis.

  • InSb TFT is fabricated by the vacuum evaporation method and I-V characteristics are measured. Employing Davidon Fletcher-Powell algorithm, the device parameters are extracted. The current-voltage relations calculated by extracdted parameters are in good agreement with experimental results. It is found that optimization technique may be more simple and accurate than curve fitting method in device parameters extration.

  • Low frequency towed line array with high array gain and beam resolution is a long range surveillance sensor for anti-submarine warfare. The beam characteristics is however deteriorated due to the distorted line array sensor caused by low towing speed, wind, current, and towing ship maneuvering. An adaptive beamforming method is utilized in this paper to enhance the distorted line array beam performance by estimating and compensating the nonlinear array shape. A polynomial curve fitting in the least square sense is used to estimate the array shape iteratively with the distributed heading sensors data along the array. Real time array shape estimation and nonlinear array beam calculation is applied to a very long towed line array sensor system and the beam performance is evaluated and compared to the linear beamformer for the simulation and sea trial data.

  • Spectroscopies are the most widely used for understanding the crystallographic, chemical, and physical aspects of materials; therefore, numerous commercial and non-commercial software have been introduced to help researchers better handling their spectroscopic data. However, not many researchers, especially early-stage ones, have a proper background knowledge on the choice of fitting functions and a technique for actual fitting, although the essence of such data analysis is peak fitting. In this regard, we present a practical guide for peak fitting for data analysis. We start with a basic-level theoretical background why and how a certain protocol for peak fitting works, followed by a step-by-step visualized demonstration how an actual fitting is performed. We expect that this contribution is sure to help many active researchers in the discipline of materials science better handle their spectroscopic data.

  • This paper presents a new algorithm for surface segmentation and feature description. In the first stage of proposed algorithm, the signature of an edge image of object is extracted. The signature technique represents a surface using the distance from the mass center to the boundary of the image as a function of angle rotating counterclockwise. If there exists a range in the angle axis where more than two signatures form a closed curve, we can conclude there is a surface inside the range. Using this feature of the signature, surface can be segmented. The surface features such as number of vertices, number of edges, convex and type of surface can also be extracted from segmented surfaces. This algorithm has distinguished advantages; it can easily recover the lost part in the edge image using the curve fitting method; it extracts surface features correctly regardless of the rotation of the surface in 3-D space.

  • The materials failure relation $\ddot{\Omega}=A{(\dot{\Omega})}^\alpha$ where $\Omega$ is a measurable quantity such as displacement and the dot superscript is the time derivative, may be used to analyze the accelerating creep of materials. Coefficients, A and $\alpha$, are determined by fitting given data sets. In this study, it is tried to predict the failure time of tunnel using the materials failure relation. Four fitting techniques of applying the materials failure relation are attempted to forecast a failure time. Log velocity versus log acceleration technique, log time versus log velocity technique, inverse velocity technique are based on the linear least squares fits and non-linear least squares technique utilizes the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm. Since the log velocity versus log acceleration technique utilizes a logarithmic representation of the materials failure relation, it indicates the suitability of the materials failure relation applied to predict a failure time of tunnel. A linear correlation between log velocity and log acceleration appears satisfactory(R=0.84) and this represents that the materials failure relation is a suitable model for predicting a failure time of tunnel. Through comparing the real failure time of tunnel with the predicted failure times from four curve fittings, it is shown that the log time versus log velocity technique results in the best prediction.

  • The heights of the towers of a ropeway are theoretically derived and the result is experimentally verified. The accuracy in the equation of deflection angle obtained by applying the characteristics of catenary curve was confirmed through experiment. By applying these equations the optimal values of the tower heights could be obtained because the deflection angles trade off each other. The deflection angle was measured by using the curve fitting technique.

  • Underwater images are typically degraded due to color distortion, light absorption, scattering, and noise from artificial light sources. Restoration of these images is an essential task in many underwater applications. In this paper, we propose a two-phase deep learning-based method, Underwater Deep Curve Estimation (UWDCE), designed to effectively enhance the quality of underwater images. The first phase involves a white balancing and color correction technique to compensate for color imbalances. The second phase introduces a novel deep learning model, UWDCE, to learn the mapping between the color-corrected image and its best-fitting curve parameter maps. The model operates iteratively, applying light-enhancement curves to achieve better contrast and maintain pixel values within a normalized range. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method, producing higher-quality images compared to state-of-the-art methods.

  • This paper presents the channel estimation method with STBC applied to IEEE802.11a. Tenacious channel estimation method for OFDM system, that generally uses STTC, has been presented once and massive amount of calculation was needed However, regarding this paper, the amount of calculation can be reduced by using Curve Fitting, and channel tracking performance improvement can be achieved Based on the estimation method, computer simulation was done for the performance analysis and delay spread Doppler frequency and many other group sizes and numbers were considered As a result of the testing, we found out that Doppler frequency deviation effects equally as frequency offset. Also compared to the existing technique, channel estimated performance confirmed that have 0.9dB SNR improvement than old method.

  • The Beta-ray absorption method (BAM) gives a good solution for measuring the mass concentration of atmospheric particles(PM10 and PM2.5). To determine particular matters (PM) concentration, a ratio of the number of detected beta-ray intensity passing through the clean filter and the dust-sampled filter is used. These intensity data measured in air pollution monitoring such as PM10 and PM2.5 usually contained the additive noise(thermal noise, power supply noise and etc.). Therefore, the estimation performance of mass concentration can be deteriorated by these noises. In this paper, we present a new noise reduction method that is essentially required to develope an automatic continuous PM monitoring system using beta-ray absorption method. By combining the block data averaging technique and curve fitting, in the proposed method, the additive noise can be reduced in the measured data. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, computer simulations were performed with computer generated signals as the input.
