  • For the analysis of leveling process by the 3-dimensional elastic-plastic finite element method, a finite element analysis program modeling large deformation of shell has been developed. This program fur analyzing large deformation of sheet during leveling includes spring-back analysis as well as efficient contact treatment between sheet and rolls of leveler. This is verified by the simple leveling experiment with 5 rolls at laboratory. Besides the leveling examples, problems within the category of large strain and rotation, such as 3-dimensional roll-up and gutter occurrence at continuous bending-unbending process are also tested for verification of the program. The residual curvatures of strip predicted by finite element analysis are within 20% error range of the experiment. The formation and direction of anticlastic curvature or gutter during bending-unbending under tension is predicted and this agrees with the experimental results.

  • Line heating with water cooling is generally adapted process in the shipyards for the forming hull surface. The purpose of this paper is to develop a model of thermal deformation in water cooling process after the line heating. In order to simulate the cooling process, heat transfer analysis was performed by assuming the effects of water cooling as a negative heat-source. Experiment for the line heating with water cooling was performed for 9 models of plates in order to verify the cooling model. By using the suggested model for the water cooling process, it could be observed that the present method predict the plate deformations in the line heating more accurately.

  • When a tubular cantilever beam is loaded by a dynamic force applied transversely at its tip, the strain hardening of the material tends to increase the load carrying capacity and local buckling and cross-sectional overlization occurring in the tube section tends to reduce the moment carrying capacity and results in structural softening. A theoretical model is presented in this paper to analyze the deformation of a tubular beam in a dynamic response mode. Based on a large deflection analysis, the hardening/softening M-${\kappa}$ relationship is introduced. The main interest is on the curvature development history and the deformed configuration of the beam.

  • A simple numerical method is applied to calculate the large deflection of a cantilever beam under an elastic-plastic deformation by dividing the deformed axis into a number of small segments. Assuming that each segment can be approximated as a circular arc, the method allows large deflections and plastic deformation to be analyzed. The main interests are the load-deflection relationship, curvature distribution along the beam and the length of the plastic region. The method is proved to be easy and particularly versatile. Comparisons with other studies are given.

  • Nonlinear dynamic analysis of a reinforced concrete (RC) frame under earthquake loading is performed in this paper on the basis of a hysteretic moment-curvature relation. Unlike previous analytical moment-curvature relations which take into account the flexural deformation only with the perfect-bond assumption, by introducing an equivalent flexural stiffness, the proposed relation considers the rigid-body-motion due to anchorage slip at the fixed end, which accounts for more than 50% of the total deformation. The advantage of the proposed relation, compared with both the layered section approach and the multi-component model, may be the ease of its application to a complex structure composed of many elements and on the reduction in calculation time and memory space. Describing the structural response more exactly becomes possible through the use of curved unloading and reloading branches inferred from the stress-strain relation of steel and consideration of the pinching effect caused by axial force. Finally, the applicability of the proposed model to the nonlinear dynamic analysis of RC structures is established through correlation studies between analytical and experimental results.

  • In this paper, we define a new tensor field on a Sasqakian manifold, which is constructed from the conformal curvature tensor field by using the Boothby-Wang's fibration ([3]), and study some properties of this new tensor field. In Section 2, we recall definitions and fundamental properties of Sasakian manifold and .phi.-holomorphic sectional curvature. In Section 3, we define contact conformal curvature tensor field on a Sasakian manifold and prove that it is invariant under D-homothetic deformation due to S. Tanno([13]). In Section 4, we study Sasakian manifolds with vanishing contact conformal curvature tensor field, and the last Section 5 is devoted to studying some properties of fibred Riemannian spaces with Sasakian structure of vanishing contact conformal curvature tensor field.

  • We present smooth simply connected closed 4k-dimensional manifolds N := Nk, for each k ∈ {2, 3, ⋯}, with distinct symplectic deformation equivalence classes [[ωi]], i = 1, 2. To distinguish [[ωi]]’s, we used the symplectic Z invariant in [4] which depends only on the symplectic deformation equivalence class. We have computed that Z(N, [[ω1]]) = ∞ and Z(N, [[ω2]]) < 0.

  • This study aims to examine an effect of stacking sequence and curvature on the penetration characteristic of a composite laminated shell. For the purpose, we manufactured specimens with different stacking sequences and curvatures, and conducted a penetration test using an air-gun. To examine an influence according to stacking sequence, as flat plate and curvature specimen had more plies, their critical penetration energy was higher, Critical penetration energies of specimen A and C with less interfaces somewhat higher than those of B and D with more interfaces. The reason that with less interfaces, critical penetration energy was higher is pre-impact bending stiffness of composite laminated shell with less interfaces was lower than that of laminated shell with more interfaces, but bending stiffness after impact was higher. And it is because interface, the weakest part of the composite laminated shell, was influenced by transverse impact. As curvature increases, critical penetration energy increases linearly. It is because as curvature increases, resistance to in-plane deformation as well as bending deformation increases, which need higher critical penetration energy. Patterns of cracks caused by penetration of composite laminated shells include interlaminar crack, intralaminar crack, and laminar fracture. A 0$^{\circ}$ply laminar had a matrix crack, a 90$^{\circ}$ply laminar had intralaminar crack and laminar fracture, and interface between 0$^{\circ}$and 90$^{\circ}$laminar had a interlaminar crack. We examined crack length and delamination area through a penetration test. For the specimen A and C with 2 interface, the longest circumferential direction crack length and largest delamination area were observed on the first interface from the impact point. For the specimen B and D with 4 interface, the longest crack length and largest delamination area were observed on the third interface from the impact point.

  • Under sustained loads, the deformation of a structure gradually increase with time and eventually may be much greater than its instantaneous value, This inelastic and time-dependent deformation causes increase in deflection and curvature, redistribution of stress and internal action, In this paper, time-dependent analysis with creep and shrinkage of uncracked and cracked partially prestressed concrete flexural members is presented.
