Electrical Conduction Mechanism in ITO/Alq3/Al Organic Light-emitting Diodes

  • We have used ITO/Alq$_3$/Al structure to study electrical conduction mechanism in organic light-emitting diodes. Current-voltage-luminance characteristics were measured at room temperature by varying the thickness of Alq$_3$ layer from 60 to 400mm. We were able to confirm that there are three different mechanisms depending on the applied voltage region; ohmic, space-charge-limited current, and trap-charge-limit-current mechanism. And the maximum luminous efficiency was obtained when the thickness of Alq$_3$ layer is 200nm.

Long Gap Hump 전극구조를 가진 ac PDP에서의 Xe-Ne 가스의 방전 특성 연구 (A Study of Discharge Characteristics in Xe-Ne Gas Mixture for ac PDP with Long Gap Hump Electrode)

  • To increase the luminance and luminous efficacy in the discharge for alternating current plasma display panel (ac PDP), the increment of Xe contents and long discharge gap are necessary. However, the driving voltage and the cost of driving circuit increases in the high Xe contents and long discharge path condition. In this paper, a long gap ITO hump electrode (LGH) model for discharge cells of ac PDP is evaluated in the various Xe contents($5{\sim}20%$). The discharge voltage of LGH structure is lower about 30V than that of ITa reference structure with same main discharge gap. The LGH structure has lower power consumption and higher luminance than those of reference structure, respectively. Also, the luminous efficacy of LGH structure is higher about 20% than that of ITO reference structure in the 20% Xe contents.

TPD와 P3HT의 블렌드한 다층막 EL 소자의 전기-광학적 특성 (The Electro-optical Propeties of Multilayer EL devices by blending TPD with P3TH as Emitting layer)

  • High performance organic electroluminescnet(EL) devices which are composed of organic thin multilayer films are fabricated. The basic structure is ITO/Emitting layer/LiF/Al in which have a blended emitting layer. The emitting layer is consisted of a host material(N,N' diphenyl-N,N' (3-methyl phenyl)-l,l'-biphenyl-4,4'diamine)(TPD)) and a guest emitting material(poly(3-hexylthiophehe)(P3HT)). We think that the energy transfer in blending layer occurred from TPD to P3HT. Red emitting multilayer EL devices were fabricated using tris(8-hydroxyqunolinate) aluminum$(Alq_3)$ as electron transport material. The device structure of ITO/blending layer(TPD+P3HT)$/Alq_3$/LiF/Al was employed. In the Voltage-current-luminance characteristics of multilayer device, the device tum on at the 2V and the luminance of $10{\mu}W/cm^2$ obtain at l0V. Red emission peak at 640nm was observed with this device structure. We have presented evidence that the excitation energy migration between a polymeric host and guest has to be explained. And by using multilayer, the red light emitting EL device enhances not only Voltage-current-luminance characteristic but also stability of device.

  • In this paper, We measured an electric and optical characteristics for electrodeless fluorescent lamp system. We used the CCD(charged couple device) and Integrating Sphere Photometer to detect the accurate variation of data and got a characteristic of output voltage and current, luminance, luminous flux etc. And then we come to understand that the efficiency of electrodeless fluorescent lamps are similar to CFLs(compact fluorescent lamp) or HID(high intensity discharge lamp).

  • We studied emitting properties of devices fabricated using the spin-coating and Langmuir-Blodgett[LB] technique. The LB technique has the advantage of precise control of the thickness better than spin-coating method. Poly(3-hexylthiophene)[P3HT] LB films used as the emitting layer in light-emitting devices. LB monolayers were deposited 27 layers onto the indium-tin-oxide[ITO] as Y-type films by the vertical dipping method. The thickness is about 80nm. Absorption spectrum of LB films presented that P3HT is regiorandom conformation. Also, current-voltage-luminance characteristics and electroluminescence spectra of light-emitting devices fabricated by LB method is studied. In current-voltage-luminescence characteristics, turn-on voltage of P3HT LB film LEDs is higher than that of spin-coating LEDs. But electroluminescence spectrum is similar to the spin-coating LEDs. The orange-red light was clearly visible in a darkened room.

  • We have synthesized poly(3-hexylthiophene)(P3HT), which is the most famous conducting polymer and studied the optical properties of P3HT. And then fabricated the device using P3HT as an emitting layer. For the improve of hole injection from ITO electrode to P3HT emitting layer, we use transparent polyaniline(PANI) electrode. In the voltage-current-luminance characteristics of ITO/PANI/P3HT/LiF/Al device which use the PANI film synthesised during 5 cycle, the device turn on at the 2V and the luminance of $218nW/cm^{2}$ obtained at 12V. External quantum efficiency of ITO/PANI/P3HT/LiF/Al increased at 8V than that of ITO/P3HT/LiF/Al device.

Ar 가스 압력과 RF 전력에 따른 유도결합형 플라즈마의 전기적 및 광학적 특성 (Electrical and Optical Characteristics of Inductively Coupled Plasma by Ar Gas Pressure and Rf Power)

  • In this paper, the electrical and emission properties of electrodeless fluorescent lamp were discussed using the inductively coupled plasma (ICP) with the variation of argon gas pressure and RF power. The RF output was applied to the antenna in the range of 5∼50 W at 13.56 MHz. The internal plasma voltage of the chamber and the probe current were measured while varying the supply voltage to the Langmuir probe in the range of -100V∼+100V. When the pressure of argon gas was increased, electric current was decreased. There was a significant electric current increase from 10 to 30 W. Also, when the RF power was increased, electron density was increased. Also, the emission spectrum, Ar- I lins, luminance were investigated. At this time, the input parameter for ICP RF plasma, Ar gas pressure and RF power were applied in the range of 10∼60 mTorr, 10∼300 W, respectively. This implies that this method can be used to find an optimal RF power for efficient light illumination in an electrodeless fluorescent lamp.

  • Organic electroluminesencent device have been studied because of its easy fabrication and high brightness for plate panel display instead of cathode ray tube. Efficient Organic Light-Emitting Diodes with a use of Hole-injection Buffer Layer

  • We have seen the effects of hole-injection buffer layer in organic light-emitting diodes using copper phthalocyanine(CuPc), poly(vinylcarbazole)(PVK), and Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly(styrene-sulfonate)(PEDOT:PSS) in a device structure of ITO/buffer/TPD/$Alq_3$/Al. Polymer PVK and PEDOT:PSS buffer layer was made using spin casting method and the CuPc layer was made using thermal evaporation. Current-voltage characteristics, luminance-voltage characteristics and efficiency of device were measured at room temperature with a thickness variation of buffer layer. We have obtained an improvement of the external quantum efficiency by a factor of two, four, and two and half when the CuPc, PVK, and PEDOT:PSS buffer layer are used, respectively. The enhancement of the efficiency is attributed to the improved balance of holes and elelctrons due to the use of hole-injection buffer layer. The CuPc and PEDOT:PSS layer functions as a hole-injection supporter and the PVK layer as a hole-blocking one.
