This paper presents a new method on controller design of brushless dc motors. In such drives the current ripples are generated by motor inductance in stator windings and the back EMF. To suppress the current ripples the current controller is generally used. To minimize the size and the cost of the drives it is desirable to control motors without the current controller and the current sensing circuits. To estimate the motor current it is modeled by a neural network that is configured as an output-error dynamic system. The identified model is essentially a one step ahead prediction structure in which fast inputs and outputs are used to calculate the current output. Using the model, effective estimator to compensate the effects of disturbance has been designed. The effectiveness of the proposed current estimator is verified through experiments.

This study proposes a method for compensating for the commutation torque ripple of delta-connected brushless DC motors with low inductance based on a current predictions. At the commutation instant, a phase current at the next sampling period is predicted and compared with the reference phase current to determine whether torque ripples will occur or not. If the predicted current cannot reach the reference phase current, the reference current is modified and the relevant voltage reference is produced to reduce the torque ripple. The validity of the proposed method has been verified by simulation and experimental results. The commutation torque ripple has been decreased by 17.7% at 1,000 rpm and 80% load conditions.

MDPS (motor driven power steering) systems have been widely used in vehicles due to their improved fuel efficiency and steering performance when compared to conventional hydraulic steering. However, the reduction of torque ripples and material cost are important issues. A low resolution position sensor for MDPS is one of the candidates for reducing the material costs. However, it may increases the torque ripple due to the current harmonics caused by low resolution encoder signals. In this paper, the torque ripple caused by the quantized rotor position of the low resolution encoder is analyzed. To reduce the torque ripples caused by the quantization of the encoder signals, the rotor position and the speed are estimated by measuring the frequency of the encoder signals. In addition, the compensating q-axis current is added to the current command so that the 6th order torque harmonic is attenuated. The reduction of torque ripples by applying the estimated rotor position and the compensated q-axis current is verified through experimental results.
This paper deals with a Direct Torque Control (DTC) of an Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (IPMSM) for the Electric Vehicle (EV) propulsion system using a Neural Network (NN). The Conventional DTC with optimized switching lookup table and three level torque controller generates relatively large torque ripples in an electric vehicle motor drive. For reducing the torque ripples, a three level torque controller is hereby replaced by the five level torque controller. Furthermore, the switching lookup table of the five level torque controller based DTC is replaced with a Neural Network. These DTC schemes of an IPMSM drive are simulated using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The simulated results are compared with the conventional DTC and it is found that the ripples in the torque, as well as in the stator current, are reduced drastically.

In this paper, design and control of an interleaved boost converter for multi-string PV Inverter are discussed. Interleaved Boost converter can reduce current ripples at input and output side by cancelling an each phase of inductor currents. Therefore, it contributes to increase efficiency and downsize the whole system volume, cost. One of the advantages of the multi-string system is easy to expand power capacity by connecting the converter modules in parallel. In order to reduce current ripples, the inductor currents on each phase are controlled independently in the converter module, and communication between the converter modules is required for further ripple current reduction. Current control algorithm for the balance of the each phase ripple currents and synchronization of the converter modules based on communication are proposed and implemented in the DSP programming. 10kW prototype of the multi-string converter module is assembled and experimental results are presented to verify the proposed ripple current reduction methods.

In doubly fed induction generators (DFIGs), control of rotor currents allows for adjustable speed operation, active, and reactive power control. This paper presents a DFIG control strategy that enhances the active and reactive power control with controllers that can compensate for the errors caused by current measurement path in the DFIG system. The errors can be divided into two categories: offset and scaling errors. These can induce the speed, active, and reactive power pulsations, which are one and two times the fundamental slip frequency in the DFIG. And these undesirable ripples can do the DFIG harm. In this paper, a new compensation algorithm is proposed. Therefore, the proposed algorithm has several advantages: to implement is easy; it require less computation time; it is robust with regard to the variation of the induction generator parameters. In this paper, a new algorithm is introduced by using the integral of phase currents to measure the current ripples of rotor-side converterin the DFIG system. The experiment results are shown the effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, phase current ripples and torque ripples of six-phase PM synchronous motor controlled by interleaved PWM are analyzed. The cause of the increase of phase current ripple in the interleaved PWM was mathematically analyzed based on the mutual inductance of stator windings and effective voltage vector. Simulation and experiment verified that the DQ current ripple and torque ripple can be reduced by interleaved PWM control. The FFT analysis of torque waveform confirmed that the magnitude of harmonic torque corresponding to double the PWM frequency was reduced.

The effects of dead-time and offset error, which cause output current distortion in single-phase grid-connected inverters are investigated this paper. Offset error is typically generated by measuring phase current, including the voltage unbalance of analog devices and non-ideal characteristics in current measurement paths. Dead-time inevitably occurs during generation of the gate signal for controlling power semiconductor switches. Hence, the performance of the grid-connected inverter is significantly degraded because of the current ripples. The current and voltage, including ripple components on the synchronous reference frame and stationary reference frame, are analyzed in detail. An algorithm, which has the proportional resonant controller, is also proposed to reduce current ripple components in the synchronous PI current regulator. As a result, computational complexity of the proposed algorithm is greatly simplified, and the magnitude of the current ripples is significantly decreased. The simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the usefulness of the proposed current ripple reduction algorithm.
This paper deals with the parallel operation of inverters. To enlarge capacity of inverter system and reduce current ripples on inverter output side, two or more inverters are operated in parallel. Up to now six-step inverters and sinusoidal PWM inverters are considered in parallel operation, but using space-vector PWM inverters we can get many advantages of reducing ripple current energy and torque ripple and so on. As we can choose effective voltage vectors more freely than single operation, inverter output current ripples can be reduced by shifting beginning and end point of switching state back and forth.
