  • As a part of the plasma control system (PCS) for the first plasma campaign of KSTAR, seven sets of fast feedback control loop for the superconducting poloidal field magnet power supply (PF MPS) have been implemented. A special real-time digital communication interface has been developed for the simultaneous exchanges of the current/voltage data from the 7 sets of 12-thyristor power supplies in a 200 microsecond control cycle. Preliminary power supply tests have been performed before actual cooldown of the device. A $29mH/50m{\Omega}$ solenoid dummy has been fabricated for a series of single power supply tests. Connectivity and response speed of the plasma control system have been verified. By changing hardware cabling, this load was also used to estimate mutual inductance coupling effects of two geometrically adjacent solenoid coils on each power supply. After the cooldown was complete, each pair of the up/down symmetric PF coils has been serially connected and tested as part of the device commissioning process. Bipolar operation and longer pulse attempts have been investigated. The responses of the coils and power supplies corresponding to the plasma magnetic controls in plasma discharges are also analyzed for the future upgrades.

  • Objectives: This study investigated the pattern identification (PI) and clinical index of Parkinson's disease (PD) for personalized diagnosis and treatment. Methods: This prospective observational multi-center study recruited 100 patients diagnosed with PD from two Korean medicine hospitals. To cluster new subtypes of PD, items on a PI questionnaire (heat and cold, deficiency and excess, visceral PI) were evaluated along with pulse and tongue analysis. Gait analysis was performed and blood and feces molecular signature changes were assessed to explore biomarkers for new subtypes. In addition, unified PD rating scale II and III scores and the European quality of life 5-dimension questionnaire were assessed. Results: The clinical index obtained in this study analyzed the frequency statistics and hierarchical clustering analysis to classify new subtypes based on PI. Moreover, the biomarkers and current status of herbal medicine treatment were analyzed using the new subtypes. The results provide comprehensive data to investigate new subtypes and subtype-based biomarkers for the personalized diagnosis and treatment of PD patients. Ethical approval was obtained from the medical ethics committees of the two Korean medicine hospitals. All amendments to the research protocol were submitted and approved. Conclusions: An objective and standardized diagnostic tool is needed for the personalized treatment of PD by traditional Korean medicine. Therefore, we developed a clinical index as the basis for the PI clinical evaluation of PD. Trial Registration: This trial is registered with the Clinical Research Information Service (CRIS) (KCT0008677)

  • Wavefront coding (WFC) imaging systems can redistribute the energy of an interference laser spot on an image plane sensor by wavefront phase modulation and reduce the peak intensity, realizing laser protection while maintaining imaging functionality by leveraging algorithmic post-processing. In this paper, a spiral axicon WFC imaging system is proposed, and the performance for laser protection is investigated by constructing a laser transmission model. An Airy disk on an image plane sensor is refactored into a symmetrical hollow ring by a spiral axicon phase mask, and the maximum intensity can be reduced to lower than 1% and single-pixel power to 1.2%. The spiral axicon phase mask exhibits strong robustness to the position of the interference laser source and can effectively reduce the risk of sensor damage for an almost arbitrary lase propagation distance. Moreover, we revealed that there is a sensor hazard distance for both conventional and WFC imaging systems where the maximum single-pixel power reaches a peak value under irradiation of a power-fixed laser source. Our findings can offer guidance for the anti-laser reinforcement design of photoelectric imaging systems, thereby enhancing the adaptability of imaging systems in a complex laser environment. The laser blinding-resistant imaging system has potential applications in security monitoring, autonomous driving, and intense-laser-pulse experiments.

  • Since RF breakdown is one of the primary limitations to improving the performances of RF accelerators, extensive efforts have been dedicated to locating the breakdowns. However, most existing methods rely on specialized techniques, resulting in high financial burdens. Although the method based on transient response of transmission line (TL) is suitable for facilities with sporadic recoverable breakdowns, practical operations are susceptible to notable errors. This study revisits the fundamental theories of lossless TL and investigates the wave process to understand the characteristics of the reversed pulse induced by the breakdowns. By utilizing steadystate response of the TL and employing phasor method, we derive analytical formulas to determine the exact location of breakdowns within the faulty cell for constant-gradient TW accelerator. Furthermore, the derived formulas demonstrate their independence from RF phase, thereby distinguishing them from traditional phasebased methods. Additionally, experimental validations are conducted at the HUST injector, and the results confirm the consistency of the analysis. Thus, the proposed method represents a promising improvement over the TL-based approaches and serves as a valuable complement to current techniques. Importantly, this method demonstrates particular advantages for constructed TW accelerators seeking to achieve a balance among high performance, low costs, and compact layouts.

  • Background: From November 2006, The national health insurance system in the Republic of Korea began to cover prescribed long-term oxygen therapy (LTOT) in patients with chronic respiratory insufficiency. This study examined the current status of LTOT after national health insurance coverage. Methods: Between November 1, 2006 and June 30, 2008, the medical records of patients who were prescribed LTOT by chest physicians were reviewed. The data was collected from 13 university hospitals. Results: 197 patients (131 male and 66 female) were prescribed LTOT. The mean age was 64.3${\pm}$13.0 years. The most common underlying disease was chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (n=103, 52.3%). Chest physicians prescribed LTOT using arterial blood gas analysis or a pulse oxymeter (74.6%), symptoms (14%), or a pulmonary function test (11.2%). The mean oxygen flow rate was 1.56${\pm}$0.68 L/min at rest, 2.08${\pm}$0.91 L/min during exercise or 1.51${\pm}$0.75 L/min during sleep. Most patients (98.3%) used oxygen concentrators. Only 19% of patients used ambulatory oxygen supplies. The oxygen saturation before and after LTOT was 83.18${\pm}$10.48% and 91.64${\pm}$7.1%, respectively. After LTOT, dyspnea improved in 81.2% of patients. The mean duration of LTOT was 16.85${\pm}$6.71 hours/day. The rental cost for the oxygen concentrator and related electricity charges were 48,414${\pm}$15,618 won/month and 40,352${\pm}$36,815 won/month, respectively. Approximately 75% of patients had a regular visit by the company. 5.8% of patients had personal pulse oxymetry. 54.9% of patients had their oxygen saturation checked on each visit hospital. 8% of patients were current smokers. The most common complaint with LTOT was the limitation of daily activity (53%). The most common complaint with oxygen concentrators was noise (41%). Conclusion: The patients showed good compliance with LTOT. However, only a few patients used an ambulatory oxygen device or had their oxygen saturation measured.

  • The high efficiency power management IC(PMIC) with DTMOS(Dynamic Threshold voltage MOSFET) switching device is proposed in this paper. PMIC is controlled with PWM control method in order to have high power efficiency at high current level. DTMOS with low on-resistance is designed to decrease conduction loss. The control parts in Buck converter, that is, PWM control circuits consist of a saw-tooth generator, a band-gap reference circuit, an error amplifier and a comparator circuit as a block. The Saw-tooth generator is made to have 1.2 MHz oscillation frequency and full range of output swing from ground to supply voltage(VDD:3.3V). The comparator is designed with two stage OP amplifier. And the error amplifier has 70dB DC gain and $64^{\circ}$ phase margin. DC-DC converter, based on Voltage-mode PWM control circuits and low on-resistance switching device, achieved the high efficiency near 95% at 100mA output current. And DC-DC converter is designed with LDO in stand-by mode which fewer than 1mA for high efficiency.

  • In this paper, the proposed full-bridge high frequency isolated zoo voltage and zero current switching phase shifted pulse width modulation(ZVZCS PS-PWM)DC-DC converter among fuel cell generation system consist of 1.2[kW] fuel cell of Nexa Power Module, full-bridge DC-DC converter to boost the fuel cell low voltage($28{\sim}43[%]$) to 380[VDC] and a single phase full-bridge inverter is implemented to produce AC output(220[VAC], 60[Hz]). A tapped inductor filter with freewheeling diode is newly implemented in the output filter of the proposed full-bridge high frequency isolated ZVZCS PS-PWM DC-DC converter to suppress circulating current under the wide output voltage regulation range, thus to eliminate the switching and transformer turn-on/off over-short voltage or transient phenomena. Besides the efficiency of $93{\sim}97[%]$ is obtained over the wide output voltage regulation ranges and load variations.

  • Single crystal Fe thin films were grown directly onto n-Si(111) substrates by pulsed electrodeposition. Cyclic Voltammogram(CV) indicated that the $Fe^{2+}/n-Si(111)$ interface shows a good diode behavior by forming a Schottky barrier. From Mott-Schottky (MS) relation, it is found that the flat-band potential of n-Si(111) substrate and equilibrium redox potential of $Fet^{2+}$ ions are -0.526V and -0.316V, respectively. The nucleation and growth kinetics at the initial reaction stages of Fe/n-Si(111) substraste was studied by current transients. Current transients measurements have indicated that the deposition process starts via instantaneous nucleation and 3D diffusion limited growth. After the more deposition, the deposition flux of Fe ions was saturated with increase of deposition time. from the as-deposited sample obtained using the potential pulse of 1.4V and 300Hz, it is found that Fe nuclei grows to three dimensional(3D) islands with the average size of about 100nm in early deposition stages. As the deposition time increases, the sizes of Fe nuclei increases progressively and by a coalescence of the nuclei, a continuous Fe films grow on the Si surface. In this case, the Fe films show a highly oriented columnar structure and x-ray diffraction patterns reveal that the phase ${\alpha}-Fe$ grows on the n-Si(111) substrates.

  • Voltammetric behavior of some light lanthanide ions (La$^{3+}$, Pr$^{3+}$, Nd$^{3+}$, Sm$^{3+}$, and Eu$^{3+}$) in various supporting electrolytes has been investigated by several electrochemical techniques. The peak potentials and the peak currents, their dependency on the concentration, temperature and pH effects, the reversibility of the electrode reactions are described. The reduction of La$^{3+}$, Pr$^{3+}$ and Nd$^{3+}$ in 0.1 M lithium chloride proceeds by a three-electron change directly to the metallic state (Ln$^{3+}$ + 3e- → Ln$^0$) and charge transfer is totally irreversible. However, the reduction of Sm$^{3+}$ in 0.1 M tetramethylammonium iodide and Eu$^{3+}$ in 0.1 M lithium chloride proceeds in two stages (Ln$^{3+}$ + e- → Ln$^{2+}$ and Ln$^{2+}$ + 2e- → Ln$^0$). At pH values lower than ca.4 the hydrated lanthanide species (Ln(OH)$^{2+}$) reduced before the lanthanide ions (Ln$^{3+}$) due to the catalytic effect of hydrogen ions, and peak current increase with in the order Eu$^{3+}$ < Sm$^{3+}$ < Nd$^{3+}$ < Pr$^{3+}$ < La$^{3+}$ in differential pulse polarography. Some representative plots of $i_{pc}V^{-1/2} (proportional to current function) vs. V show considerable influence of hydrogen ion/lanthanide ion concentration in cyclic voltammetry. It is shown that a reaction of lanthanide ions with proton and/or water and catalytic reaction is enhanced at lower pH and at decreased lanthanide ion concentration.

  • Tracking, which is one of the main causes of electrical fires, is perceived as a physical phenomenon of electrical discharge. Hence tracking should be explained based on electric field analysis, conduction path by electron generation, and gas discharge physics. However, few papers have considered these details. This paper proposes a tracking mechanism including their effects on tracking progress. In order to prove this mechanism, a tracking experiment, an electric field analysis for the carbonization evolution model, and an explanation of the tracking process by gas discharge physics were conducted. From the tracking experiment, the current waveforms were measured at each stage of the tracking progress from corona discharge to tracking breakdown. The electric field analysis was carried out in order to determine the electric field on the surface of a dry-band and the high electric field region for electron generation during the generation and progress of carbonization. In this paper, the proposed tracking mechanism consisted of six stages including electron avalanche by corona discharge, accumulation of positive ions, expansion of electron avalanche, secondary electron emission avalanche, streamer, and tracking by conductive path. The pulse current waveforms measured in the tracking experiment can be explained by the proposed tracking mechanism. The results of this study will be used as the technical data to detect tracking phenomenon, which is the cause of electric fire, and to improve the proof tracking index.
