  • Aerodynamic sensitivity analysis codes are developed via the hand-differentiation using a direct differentiation method and an adjoint method respectively from discrete two-dimensional compressible Navier-Stokes equations. Unlike previous other researches, Baldwin-Lomax algebraic turbulence model is also differentiated by hand to obtain design sensitivities with respect to design variables of interest in turbulent flows. Discrete direct sensitivity equations and adjoint equations are efficiently solved by the same time integration scheme adopted in the flow solver routine. The required memory for the adjoint sensitivity code is greatly reduced at the cost of the computational time by allowing the large banded flux jacobian matrix unassembled. Direct sensitivity code results are found to be exactly coincident with sensitivity derivatives obtained by the finite difference. Adjoint code results of a turbulent flow case show slight deviations from the exact results due to the limitation of the algebraic turbulence model in implementing the adjoint formulation. However, current adjoint sensitivity code yields much more accurate sensitivity derivatives than the adjoint code with the turbulence eddy viscosity being kept constant, which is a usual assumption for the prior researches.

  • Switched Reluctance motors(SRM) attract much attention in motor because they are reliable and inexpensive. With advance in power electronics and high-speed processors the performance of SRM has been enhanced greatly. But they require rotor position information to operate, In many systems rotor position sensors are undesirable and have disadvantages. To overcome the disadvantages include by position sensors a number of sensorless methods for SRM's have been proposed by researchers. This paper describes a method for indirect sensing of rotor position in SRM's pulsewidth modulation voltage control. The method required no priori knowledge of motor parameters excepts for the number of stator and rotor poles. The detection method uses the change of the derivative of the phase current to detect the position.

  • This paper presents a framework of nonlinear dynamic analysis of a low-speed moving maglev (magnetically levitated) vehicle subjected to cross winds and controlled using a clipped-LQR actuator with time delay compensation. A four degrees-of-freedom (4-DOFs) maglev-vehicle equipped with an onboard PID (Proportional-Integral-Derivative) controller traveling over guideway girders was developed to regulate the electric current and control voltage. With this maglev-vehicle/guideway model, dynamic interaction analysis of a low-speed maglev vehicle with guideway girders was conducted using an iterative approach. Considering the time-delay issue of unsynchronized tuning forces in control process, a clipped-LQR actuator with time-delay compensation is developed to improve control effectiveness of lateral vibration of the running maglev vehicle in cross winds. Numerical simulations demonstrate that although the lateral response of the maglev vehicle moving in cross winds would be amplified significantly, the present clipped-LQR controller exhibits its control performance in suppressing the lateral vibration of the vehicle.

  • The torque of SRM depends on the level of phase current and the derivative of phase inductance. But the phase inductance of SRM is not linearly changed according to rotor position angle because of saturation in magnetic circuit. Therefor it is difficult to control the desired torque. This paper proposes a model of control system for high efficiency drive of SRM. The GA-Neural Network is used to simulate the reasonable switching angle which is nonlinearly varied with rotor speed and load.

  • It is well known that the metallo-phthalocyanines(MPcs) are sensitive to toxic gaseous molecules, such as NO$_2$, NO, SO$_2$. MPcs are thermally, optica1ly, mechanically and chemically stable. Therefore, it is interesting to prepare phthalocyanine LB films containing tin as a chemical sensor for NO$_2$ and SO$_2$ gas and test their sensitivity to these toxic gases. Frist, in this study, ultra thin films of Octa-dodecyloxy tin-phthalocyanine were prepared on various substrates by LB technique. Langmuir-Blodgett(LB) technique is one of the ways of fabricating organic thin films. It has the advantage to control the alignment and orientation of the molecules in the films. $\pi$-A isotherm and transfer ratio of tin-phthalocyanine derivative. UV-VIS. spectroscopy were investigated. Also intrinsic current-voltage(1-V) characteristics of these films was investigated.

  • In this paper an active random noise control using adaptive learning rate neural networks is presented. The adaptive learning rate strategy increases the learning rate by a small constant if the current partial derivative of the objective function with respect to the weight and the exponential average of the previous derivatives have the same sign, otherwise the learning rate is decreased by a proportion of its value. The use of an adaptive learning rate attempts to keep the learning step size as large as possible without leading to oscillation. It is expected that a cost function minimize rapidly and training time is decreased. Numerical simulations and experiments of active random noise control with the transfer function of the error path will be performed, to validate the convergence properties of the adaptive learning rate Neural Networks. Control results show that adaptive learning rate Neural Networks control structure can outperform linear controllers and conventional neural network controller for the active random noise control.

  • This paper presents a new variable structure model following control algorithm for control of manipulators. The reference model is a simple double integrators and the acceleration input for the robot manipulator consists of a proportional and derivative controller for the purpose of trajectory tracking. The control algorithm is derived by using Lyapunov stability theory instead of S.S < O, as is usual in the current VSS controller design. This proposed control algorithm does not require good knowledge of the parameter in the inertia matrix and is easily extendable to robot manipulators with a higher number of links. Also, the new algorithm is computationally fast because of not requiring the matrix inversion. The computer simulation was carried out to evaluate the performance of the proposed VSMFC.

  • The correlation between electrical (derivativer) characteristics and electro-optical conversion characteristics of laser diodes has been investigated both theoretically and experimentally with emphasis on the nonideal behavior. Laser diodes are electrically pumped devices with the current resulting from the carrier recombination dynamics, and their junction voltage is given by the separation of the quasi-Fermi levels which are determined by the injected carrier concentration. Thus most of the informaiton related to laser diode operation characteristics is reveraled in the electrical characteristics which are relatively simple to measure with sufficient accuracy. Therefore the measurement of electrical characteristics and their derivatives is a very useful tool of laser diode characteristion.

  • Preconditioned compressible Navier-Stokes equations are solved for almost incompressible flows. Unstructured meshes are utilized for spatial discretization of complex flow domain. Effectiveness of the current preconditioning algorithm, with respect to various Reynolds numbers and Mach numbers, is demonstrated by the solution of canonical problems for incompressible flows, e.g. driven cavity flows.

  • The traditional economic evaluation methods do not seem to consider derivative efforts-productivity improvement, quality improvement.-which may be occured by AMS introduction. Current evaluation methods are based on mass production with known characteristic and stable technology. Recently, expert suggest that these assumption-stable production and mass production-are realized to be a limited in substantial economic evaluation analysis. Therefore, the problem of traditional evaluation methods suggested in this thesis and decision in the case studies are derived using two complementary economic analysis methods-AHP method, modified economic evaluation model- and traditional evaluation method. After three methods are compared and evaluated in the view of practical economic evaluation, AHP method is intended to be introduced as a new economic evaluation method.
