The sample of 250 male highschool students out of two different schools in Tae-Jon was questioned from July 10th to 15th. 1995. In analyzing these date. the statistics shows the realities by means of number of students. The results are summarized into 17 items as follows. Regarding the level of smoking. 140 students out of 250 admit that they have ever smoked. 52.1% of smoking students say that the motivation of beginning smoking is mainly curiosity. The survey shows that 22.9% of smoking students feel very good when smoking. It also shows that 30.0% of smoking students began smoking in the first grade of high school. With regard to the volume of smoking per day. 41.4% of smoking students smoke variably. 42.1% drink when smoking. 15.0% spend more than W 70.000 a month. About the question who knows the fact of their smoking. 51.5% answer that their friends know the fact of their smoking. In regard to the resaltionship between smoking and school per-formance. 18.2% of non smoking students make poor grades as compared with 40% of smoking students. 9.3% of smoking students say that they are satisfied with the school life. but 35.7% of them are not satisfied. Regarding the attitude to smoking teachers. 35% of smoking students state that they are affected by them. 69.3% of smoking students say that they will stop smoking. while the remaining 30.7% say that they will keep smoking. The reason of 63.9% to stop smoking is that smoking is bad for the health. The reason of 46. 5% to keep smoking is the acquired habit of smoking. 97.2% know the fact that the major element of cigarettes is nicotine and it is very harmful to the health. 40.8% recognize the harmful effect of smoking by TV and radio programs. 97.2% know that smoking could cause lung cancer. From the above results. I propose as follows We should make specific plan to keep smoking by simple curiosity from being developed into habitual smoking. We should teach them how harmful smoking is and make them stop smoking by themselves. It is very essential for family members and teachers to give continuous interest since childhood. As the teacher affect the students very much, they should give up smoking first. The incidence of smoking should be identified in each of the middle and high schools. smoking prohibition programs relevant to each school should be developed and implemented. The local community should ban cigarette vending machines. Cigarettes should not be sold to adolescents. By setting every place where adolescents gather including schools nonsmoking area. we should decrease their impulse to smoke. then smoking opportunities. and harmful effects to them caused by passive smoking.

  • Fostering science-gifted individuals are very important for the future of the nation, and it is especially important to cultivate information-gifted individuals in the age of the fourth industry. There is no standardized curriculum for each gifted education center of the University. Therefore, in this study, we analyzed how effective the curriculum developed on the basis of computing thinking is to affect the characteristics of the information-gifted individuals. The curriculum developed on the components of computing thinking was applied to the information-gifted students of K University. In order to verify the effectiveness of the curriculum, we developed a creative personality test and an intrinsic motivation test, and conducted tests before and after the training. We compared pre-post test results by t-test with R program. The creative personality test consisted of 36 items with 6 factors: risk-taking, self - acceptance, curiosity, humor, dominance, and autonomy. The intrinsic motivation test consisted of 20 items with 5 items: curiosity and interest oriented tendency, challenging learning task preference orientation, independent judgment dependency propensity, independent mastery propensity, and internal criterion propensity. The effect of the curriculum on the creative personality of the experimental group was significant (0.009, 0.05). The significance level of the intrinsic motivation was 0.056 and was not significant at the 0.05 level of significance.

  • People have adopted Social Networking Sites (SNSs) as a part of their daily lives. When a person uses SNSs, (s)he intentionally or unintentionally discloses her/his personal information. Although using SNSs can provide benefits to a person such as maintaining relationships with people who does not see often, it also opens a dark side. Someone can use one's disclosed information without the acknowledgement of the information owner. It is called a privacy intrusion on SNSs, which has become a social problem and needs attention. This study examined factors affecting privacy intrusion intention on SNSs. This study classifies privacy intrusions into passive intrusion (collector) and active intrusion (distributor). The results reveal that low ethical consciousness positively affects enjoyment in both of collecting and distributing someone's personal information on SNSs. A person who has the low ethical consciousness also tends to raise her/his curiosity of collecting someone's private information on SNSs. Apart from low ethical consciousness, this study discloses how enjoyment, curiosity, experience of being a victim of privacy intrusion, experience of intruding others' privacies, and self-efficacy of collecting or distributing others' private information are related to passive or/and active privacy intrusion on SNSs with survey data.

  • The purpose of the study was to provide the basic information that is needed to build marketing strategies related to consumers' brand-switching, through investigation into sport shoe consumers' motivations for brand-switching, as determined by their age and gender. The study was implemented by means of a descriptive survey method using a questionnaire. The sample consisted of 534 consumers between the ages of 13 and 59, residing in the Seoul area. The survey for the study was conducted during the period of October 10 through December 5, in 2008. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Duncan's Test were employed for the analysis of data gathered. The results revealed that there are differences with regard to the degree that the functional/aesthetic factors of sport shoes contribute to the motivation for brand-switching, when assessed with respect to the age and gender of consumers. The contributory degrees of situational factors and social/emotional curiosity factors of consumers are also different with regard to the motivation for brand-switching behavior of sport shoe consumers in accordance with their age and gender. Therefore, marketing strategies related to brand-switching behavior will be more effective when they are differentiated according to the target age and gender, even with respect to the same type of product, such as sport shoes.

  • This study intended to examine the differences through comparative analysis of the illustrations and contents in the 3rd-6th grade elementary science textbooks of Korea and Finland. The analysis of the types and illustrations in the Korean and Finnish textbooks revealed that the textbooks of both counties provide many photographs and illustrations, so as to deliver data mainly in the form of realistic illustration. In Korean textbooks, photographs were mainly used to guide the students into experiments and to train the students in analyzing and interpreting data. In contrast, the Finnish textbooks place more emphasis on pictures and photographs to enhance their interests and curiosity and understand. The Korean textbooks should place more emphasis on the pictures in order to encourage elementary school students to interest and understand. As a result the addition of more diverse forms of illustrations and the re-organization of illustrations according to the topic should be considered in future Korean textbooks.

  • With a theoretical focus on the emotional experiences created via the interface, and the relationship between human beings and space, this study aims to corroborate and clarify the formation and verification of emotional interactions between human beings and space using body movements. It follows the method of Coining "Movement Phrases" through the analysis of body movements in the experimental space, thereby developing them into a complete scenario to produce the story of emotional expression. This study has hereby generated the following outcomes: First, the "pocket-type" exhibition displays a higher frequency of body movements than the "general" exhibition. It has close connections with emotional vocabularies: "Curious," "interesting," "warm," and "fun." The "general" exhibition records a relatively high frequency of emotional vocabularies like "natural," "efficient," and "free." Second, it is possible to analyze the story of space using a scenario, just like drama, based upon attributes and serial relationships. The "exposition" section reveals a high degree of "curiosity" and a large number of body movements, while the "development" section indicates high degree of "surprise" plus slight body movements. The "transition" sections manifest high "interest" and many body movements, and the "climax" section shows a high frequency of "surprise" and many changes in body movements. The "conclusion" section finally invokes images together with body movements.

  • The major limitation of the traditional Intelligent Tutoring Systems (ITS) is that interface is mainly focused on the cognitive factors. However, the new direction of ITS is shifting form the cognitive perspectives to the motivational perspectives reflecting the individual differences. In this study, the specific design guidelines for motivational interface of ITS are proposed to promote learner's motivation to learn during the interaction with the ITS. First, ITS should be able to reflect individual differences in cognitive abilities, interest and motivation, and ongoing changes of the interestingness and comprehensibility during learning activities. Second, it is essential for ITS to guarantee learner controllability, diverse learning activities, curiosity, self-relevance, and challenge to enhance the level of motivation and situational interest. Third, the game-like properties are also needed to maximize the motivational effect of learning with ITS.
