Effects of Gagamyounjo-Tang on the Experimentally Hypercoagulable State and Hyperlipidemia in Rats (가감윤조탕(加減潤燥湯)이 실험적으로 유발된 흰쥐의 혈액응고항진 및 고지혈증(高脂血症)에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to study the effects of Gagamyounjo-Tang(加減潤燥湯) on the experimentally hypercoagulable state and hyperlipidemia in rats, we have made the hypercoagulable state in rats by injection of Bothrops jararaca venom (0.1ml/200g : Control group), and have administered solid extract of Gagamyounjo-Tang(加減潤燥湯)(132mg/200g : Sample group). After 1 hour we measured the platelet count, fibrinogen level, APTT, FDP and D-dimer. And we have made the hyperlipidemia in rats by injection of Triton WR-1339 for 3 days(30mg/200g/day : Control group), and have administered solid extract of Gagamyounjo-Tang(加減潤燥湯)(132mg/200g : Sample group), then we measured the total cholesterol, triglyceride, phoshpolipid and HDL-cholesterol levels. The results are summarized as follows : 1. In the hypercoagulable state, Sample group significantly decreased in platelet count compared with Control group(p<0.01), and significantly prolonged in APTT compared with Control group(p<0.05). 2. In the hyperlipidemia, Sample group significantly decreased in the total cholesterol, triglyceride and phoshpolipid compared with Control group(p<0.01), and significantly increased in HDL-cholesterol level compared with Control group(p<0.01). According to the above experimental results, Gagamyounjo-Tang(加減潤燥湯)is assumed to have curative effects against the hypercoagulable state in rats induced by Bothrops jararaca venom and the hyperlipidemia in rats induced by Triton WR-1339. And we can suppose that Gagamyounjo-Tang(加減潤燥湯) has a curative effect against the cerebrovascular accident caused by blood stasis.

A Study on the Nitrogen Sources for the Enhancement of the Nitrogen Bioavailability in Rats with Peptic Ulcer -The Ratio of Casein and Casein Hydrolysate- (소화성 궤양 흰쥐에서 체내 질소이용율 증진을 위한 체내 질소원에 관한 연구 - 단백질과 단백질 가수분해물의 비율을 중심으로 -)

  • This study aimed to verify the nutritional and curative effects of protein hydroysate and optimal ratio between protein and protein hydroysate as nitrogen source in rats with cysteamine-induced duodenal ulcer. Duodenal ulcer rat model was established by intraperitoneal injections of cysteamine. Sprague-Dawley, female rats weighing approximately 200g were intrapertionealy injected twice cysteamine(13mg/100g BW) at intervals of 3hours per day. This procedure was repeated 3 times at intervals of 3 days. Animals fed on 10% casein diet for injection periods. After last injection, 5 kinds of kiets (the ratio of casein and casein hydrolysate was 100 : 0(C100), 75 : 25(CH 25), 50 : 50(CH 50), 25 : 75(CH 75), 0 : 100(CH 100)) were given. The rate were sacrificed after feeding diet, 1, 3, 5 days. Ulcer index, hexosamine content of stomach and duodeum, gastric motility, trypsin activity, blood glutathione, plasma total protein, albumin, amino-N, urinalry urea nitrogen, creatinine, hydroxyproline and retention rate of nitrogen were analyzed for nutritional effects of diet treatments. There were no differences among diet groups in the view of the growth and diet treatments. There difference of ulcer curation by diet was appeared after 3 days. The ulcer indexes of C100 and CH 25 of 3, 5 days were significantly higher than those of CH 50, CH 75 and CH 100. This result was the same as hexosamine content of stomach, plasma protein, albumin concentration and nitrogen retention rate. The more casein hydrolysate diet had, the lower trypsin activity was. The more casein gydroysate diet had, the higher excretion of hydroxyproline was. These results show that protein hydrolysate can be applied in diet therapy for the patients with gastronitestinal ulcer. It suggests that it has curative effect of diet when nitogen sources include at least over than 50% of protein hydrolysate.

In vitro Fruit Assay for the Evaluation of Fungicide Activity Against Pepper Anthracnose (살균제 효과 검정을 위한 고추 탄저병의 실내 열매 검정법)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effect of conidial density, wetness period and temperature on conidial germination, appressoria formation and disease incidence. While there was not significantly correlated between conidial density and temperature, and conidial germination and appressoria formation, there was a significant correlation between those factors and disease incidence. The longer wetness period was, the higher the ratio of conidial germination, appressoria formation and the disease incidence was. The optimum conidial density, temperature and wetness period was $1{\times}10^6$ conidia $mL^{-1}$, $30^{\circ}C$ and 5 days, respectively. In case the wetness period was more than 5 days, the typical symptom was not found on pepper fruits because of the overgrowth of mycelia. Using this fruit assay method, which the pepper anthracnose pathogens were inoculated by spraying spore suspension on non-wounded or wounded pepper fruits, control effect of three fungicides were evaluated against pepper anthracnose by the protective and/or the curative application. Propineb showed high protective control activity, while it showed curative control activity on unwounded fruits, but did not showed curative control activity on wounded fruits. Tebuconazole, one of curative fungicide, showed higher control activity in non-wound inoculation than wound inoculation. Trifloxystrobin, one of strobilurin group, showed high both protective and control activity against anthracnose. In conclusion, we supposed that the newly developed in vitro pepper fruit assay can be used to evaluate antifungal activity of control agents against pepper anthracnose.

Hepatoprotective Effects of Brassica rapa (Turnip) on d-Galactosamine Induced Liver Injured Rats (순무의 d-galactosamine 유발 간장해 보호효과)

  • Brassica rapa L. (Turnip) which is one of the specialized crops in Ganghwa island, has been used for diuretic, digestive, and curative for jaundice, etc. In this study, the anti oxidative effects and hepatoprotective effects of turnip in vitro and in vivo were investigated in order to evaluate the possibility as hepatoprotective agents. Ethanol extract of turnip potently showed the scavenging effect on DPPH and inhibitory effect on lipid peroxidation. Oral administration of turnip extract to dgalactosamine-induced experimental liver injured rats was significantly reduced the serum AST, ALT and LDH enzyme activities. And the decrease of catalase and SOD activities in liver microsolmal cytosol was significantly improved by the treatment of turnip. Based on these findings, it is presumed that ethanol extract of turnip may have the hepatoprotective effect on d-galactosamine-induced hepatotoxicity rat.

A Clinical Study on the Effects of Saenggan-tang (생간탕(生肝湯)의 효능(效能)에 관(關)한 임상적(臨床的) 연구(硏究))

  • In order to study the effect on liver diseases, Saenggan-tang has been applied to 26 patients of chronic hepatitis, 9 patients of liver cirrhosis, 5 patients of acute hepatitis, 8 patients of alcoholic liver diseases, 1 patient of hepatoma total 49 patients visiting the first internal medicine department of the hospital of Oriental Medicine, Kyung Hee University. The Saenggan-tang was taken every 4 weeks (ecept acute hepatitis every 2 weeks). 1. Saenggan-tang had decrease on activity of SGOTF SGPT, with the passage of time, 4, 8, and 12 weeks, showing statistically significant effect. 2. Saenggan-tang revealed sharp decrease on levels of total bilirubin and alkaline phosphatase no showing significance in relation to a few cases 3. Serum protein total and albumin levels were in normal limit before or after Saenggan-tang treatment 4. Triglyceride level was lowered remarkably after Saenggan-tang treatment, showing significance in alcoholic liver disease group whereas no significance in chornic hepatitis Judging from above results, it is proved that Saenggan-tang has curative effect of liver diseases such as acute, chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, alcobolic liver diseases and so on.

  • The foliar uptake of dimethomoiph induced by several nonionic surfactants was measured in order to study the correlations between the uptake rate of dimethomorph and the fungicidal activity to cucumber downy mildew. Dimethomorph was not absorbed in cucumber leaf in the absence of activator surfactant. And the curative effect of dimethomoiph WP to cucumber downy mildew was very low under the concentration of 250 ${\mu}g/ml$. But dimethomorph uptake was remarkably enhanced by addition of nonionic surfactants, such as polyoxyethylene cetyl ether, polyoxyethylene oleyl ether, and polyoxyethylene stearyl ether. And the curative effect to cucumber downy mildew was enhanced with proportion to uptake rate of dimethomorph. The protective effect to cucumber downy mildew, however, tends to decrease with the increase of foliar uptake of dimethomorph. The uptake rate of dimethomorph to cucumber leaf was proportional to the content of polyoxyethylene cetyl ether in formulation, but was decreased with dilution.

Effects of Dansambohyultang on the Gastrointestinal Mucosa of Rats Stressed by Heating, Immobilization and Starvation (단삼보혈탕(丹蔘補血湯)이 Stress로 유발(誘發)된 백단삼보혈탕(白丹蔘補血湯)이 Stress로 유발(誘發)된 백서(白鼠) 위장관(胃腸管)의 조직손상(組織損傷)에 미치는 영향(影響))

  • Objectives : This is the experimental paper to study the curative and preventive effects of Dansambohyultang, Methods : Oriental herb medicine for gastro-intestinal disease caused by stress, on the rats put under the stress through starvation, heating and immoblization, the author used four different group; the normal group, which was not put under stress and well fed, and the control group, to which the drug was not administered and put under the stress through starvation, heating and immoblization, the Sample I, to which the drug was administered before they were put under stress, the Sample lI, to which the drug was administered after they were put under stress. Results : When a Masson's trichrome stain method was applied to the control group, a small size of ulcer was found in the fundus and the pylorus, and atrophy was observed in the neck region of mucous membrane. When the drug was administered to the Sample I and the Sample II, the former recovered from the ulcer and atrophy to almost normal and showed better results than the latter. When a Masson's trichrome stain method was applied to the control group, atrophy of mucous membrane was found all over the intestines. When the drug was administered to the Sample I and the Sample ll, the curative and recovered effects was seen in both, but the former showed better results than the latter. After application of Mayer's hematoxylin stain method, the observation of numerical changes of goblet cells in the small intestines showed the most significant decrease in the control group. In the Sample I, the number of the cells in the duodenum, the jejunum and the ileum returned to an almost normal level. In the Sample II, a slight increase was observed only in the ileum. After application of Mayer's hematoxylin stain method, the observation of numerical changes of goblet cell in the large intestines showed a significant decreased in the control group. Both the Sample I and the Sample II showed an increase in the number of goblet cells in comparison with the control group. When a serotonin-immunoreaction test was applied, the control group showed a general decrease in the number of gastro-entero-endocrine cells, The Sample I showed the effect in all over gastro.intestinal tract as compared with control group and the Sample II showed the effect in all over gastro-intestinal tract except the duodenum and the former showed better results than the latter. Conclusion : According to the above results, the regions which are most sensitive to stress were observed to the ileum and the colon. It was concluded that Dansambohyultang has a remedical value particularly on the abnormalities caused by stress in all over gastro-intestinal tract and it was found to be more effective in the Sample I than in the Sample ll. Judging from the fact that the Sample I showed better results than the Sample ll, Dansambohyultang can be said to have a preventive effect more than a curative effect on gastro-intestinal tract disease.

  • Epistaxis is the condition which the blood comes out with the nose. It has been known that nasal bleeding happens with many reasons. In most cases, epistaxis is a slight illness, but sometimes, it leads to death because of longstanding or copious bleeding. First of all, to stop a hemorrhage is most important treatment for epistaxis, but the curative effect of oriental medical treatment for epistaxis does not become known well. We treated a patient suffered from epistasis with acupuncture, herb medication. After treatment we observed the improvement. Based on this study, it is considered that oriental medical treatment can be applied to the management of epistaxis.

  • Systemic fungicides viz., Bavistin and Beyleton are reported to have curative effect against the infection of Beauveria bassiana in silkworm Bombyx mori L. To understand the influence of the systemic fungicides on the disease suppression/development, hematological studies were carried out. There was an increase in the percent total hemocyte count, granulocyte and plasmatocyte in silkworm treated with the systemic fungicides. It possibly indicates the influence of systemic fungicide on the hemocyte mediated defense system leading to the higher resistance and suppression of disease development.
