  • This survey was conducted to investigate the attitude towards food hygiene, and the correlation between sanitary knowledge and the performance of college students in Daejeon. The respondents were composed of 218 food majors and 296 nonmajors. The answer that food hygiene was very important was given more often by food majors (82.9%) and those educated (80.5%) than non-majors (65.1%) and the uneducated (68.7%) (p<0.05). Information on food hygiene was mainly obtained from TV, radio, or the internet. The average food hygiene knowledge score was 4.08 and that in practice was 3.37 (p < 0.001). The average score was lower in practice than knowledge for personal hygiene, food separation use and storage, washing-sterilization of food, and utensils. The average knowledge score was higher for food majors and educated than that in non-majors and uneducated (p<0.001). The degree of HACCP perception was much higher in food majors (34.9%) and educated (37.4%) than in non-majors (5.4%) and uneducated (8.2%). The knowledge and practice scores were correlated (p<0.01). It is necessary that college students be educated to obtain useful knowledge about food hygiene and conduct proper personal food sanitation in their daily life.

  • Local culture is a cultural heritage that has come down from generation to generation in the natural environment of a region. It includes history, tradition, natural features, art, and historic relics. The Academy of Korean Studies has complied "The Encyclopedia of Korean Local Culture" using those local culture contents. Local culture content shave the features of documentary, such as authenticating the source, and managing hierarchy structure. Thus, to deal with local culture contents, a "circular knowledge information management system" is sought for that helps basic, fragmentary, and high-level information to circulate to create new knowledge information within the system. A user of this circular knowledge information management system is able not only to collect data directly in it, but also to fetch data from other database. Besides, processing the collected data helps to create new knowledge information. But, it's very difficult to sustain the features of the original hierarchy bearing meaning contained in the various kinds of local culture contents when building a new database. Moreover, this kind of work needs many times of correction over a long period of time. Therefore, a system in which compilation, correction, and service can be done simultaneously is needed. Therefore, in this study, focusing on the case of "The Encyclopedia of Korean Local Culture", I propose a XML-based digital compilation management system that can express hierarchy information and sustain the semantic features of the local culture contents containing lots of ancient documents, and introduce the expanded functions developed to manage contents in the system.

Results : 1, The study showed that most DKMs used western medical knowledge concerning "history taking and diagnosis"(96.5%), "management and prevention"(95.8%), "causes and overview"(91.9%), and "prognosis"(90.3%). DKMs did not usually use western medical knowledge with regard to "diagnosis and treatment evaluation tools"(40.9%) or "western medical treatments"(25.1%) in their clinical practice. 2. Of the DKMs surveyed, 39.0% usually used traditional and western medical terms at similar levels of frequency in explaining their patients' conditions, while 35.9% used western medical terms more often and 20.8% used Korean traditional medical terms more often. 3. Most DKMs usually used acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping therapy, Moxibustion in their practice and used herbal prescriptions presented in Dongeuibogam(57.1%), Bangyakhappyeon(52.9%), and Sa-Sang Constitutional Medicine(36.7%), although 27.8% used their own herbal prescriptions in creating for patients. In practice, DKMs usually used meridian acupuncture(64.1%), needling myofascial trigger points(54.8%), sa-am acupuncture(42.1%), dong-shi acupuncture therapy(24.7%), and constitutional acupuncture therapy(8.5%). Conclusions : We found that most DKMs use western medical contents as well as Korean medical contents in clinical practice. New Korean medical contents should be establish based on these results.

  • This paper aims to propose teaching plans based on individual learner's experience and from a cross-cultural viewpoint by applying Currere as a method of Korean life-culture education. Current Korean culture education programs are not systematic, and are being executed without differentiation from language education. Thus, this study proposes Korean life-culture teaching plans based on the method of Currere. We suggested Currere teaching-learning stages and strategies for Korean language learners by adapting Pinar's and Jeong Seong-a's method of Currere. The Currere teaching-learning stages consisted of introduction, regression, progression, theme analysis, data analysis, group discussion, and integration. Although the method of Currere is implemented through autobiographic writing, this study added the strategies of 'personal experience telling' and 'schema utilization and background knowledge provision'. In order to enhance the applicability of Currere to Korean life-culture education, we suggested teaching plans for the theme of "How to dispose rubbish" as an example. We suggested detailed teaching plans that teachers can apply in the actual classroom. We expect that these teaching plans may be applied to actual classes so that Korean culture education may not be limited to the acquisition of knowledge, but be linked to their real life.

  • In this paper, we try to criticize a bias that liberal arts are not practical. First, I introduce holistic models of knowledge and constructivism in education. Second, I suggest 'linguistic turn' as another noticeable phenomenon. Language is an element of culture, but a priviledged one because culture, in itself, is linguistic. So culture is a sort of a text. We can see that liberal arts or humanities to deal with texts, contexts and languages can have an important role to read, understand and construct a world. So the rediscovery of the traditional model of the education of liberal arts like processes of graduating studies of liberal arts or humanities, is relevant to a new 'practical' model of reading and leading recent social transformations. An important point is academic contribution. And current situation called 'Knowledge-Based Society' also supports my point in another way. The situation of rapidly changing knowledge requires an education of problem-solving ability by unifying and reconstructing knowledge supporting with constructivism in education rather than the cramming system of education.

Removal or growth of microorganisms are affected by the conditions during washing and storage. The purpose of this research was to study the consumer's knowledge and habits in laundering with respect to microorganisms in clothing. For survey method, questionnaires were administered to 580 housewives, age of 20∼60s living in Seoul. Employing 479 respondents, the data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. The results are as follows: The level of knowledge about microorganisms of clothing was high in general, but wasn't expert level. Many people had experienced damages of textiles, clothing and unpleasant odor due to microorganisms. Fabric softeners and bleaches were rarely used for disinfection but usually used for antistatic, whitening or removal of stains. There was no relationship between laundering habits, the knowledge of microorganism, and experience of clothing damage by microorganism.
