Hussein Chalayan의 실험적 디자인 (Experimental Design Depicted on Hussein Chalayan' Works)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the experimental design by using deconstructive design and mobile design depicted on Hussein Chalayan' works. Hussein Chalayan, the Turkish-Cypriot who is based in London, says' Challenging is the best word for me'. And so word, 'radical' that has difficult connotations was chosen for this study It implies two menainigs for the word. The first thing is "extreme" - something that is drastic. And 'Applied to clothes', it can probably mean "experimental". He has iconoclastic ideas and his ramp shows are always high on concept, experimentation of art and utility. His approach to fashion derives from philosophical and intellectual theories of deconstruction and mobility, which he expresses through his designs. Deconstructionism, in fashion, rejects customary rules and breaks all conventions. It questions aesthetic norms about bodily proportions and the criteria of beauty, emphasizes the adding on, or discovery of, an irrational moment, and reveals the processes of tailoring in clothing. The shape and the construction of the garment is more important than the color. Cuts. tears, asymmetries, matching different materials are among the most evident features of the deconstructive design. And Chalayan performed the mobile design of transforming furniture into clothes. Chair covers became dresses. a coffee table became a skirt which were designed by Chalayan, with geometric and architectural references. Chalayan says he was inspired by the idea of refugees fleeing. Besides Chalayan uses clothing as an art to reinterpret and reform the human body in a continuous tour de force of body/identity conceptualism and dressmaking. He reflect the body's function in the cultural context of architecture, science, or nature - and then attempt to translate his findings into clothing.dings into clothing.

19세기 후반 이후 주류패션과 반패션에 표현된 성의 다원화에 관한 맥락적 연구 (A Contextual Study of the Pluralization of Sexuality Represented in Mainstream Fashion and Anti-Fashion Since the Late $19^{th}$ Century)

  • The purpose of this study is to reinterpret sexuality represented in fashion since the latter half of the 19th century in a contextual view, on the basis of Foucauldian idea of post-structural sexuality. As for research methodology, literary research was undertaken from the conception of sexuality to a historical review of the culture and dress. Foucault maintains the view of plural sexuality, which floats by power relationship between dominant and oppositional discourses in a specific historical context. In contextual approach sexual ideology codified in fashion since the latter 19C shows the following aspects: First, the traditional sexual ideology in the latter 19C is a capitalist value, which gives a priority to bourgeois man's profits, and the Victorian discourses of sexuality constructs the dichotomized fashion of the period. Next, the former half of the $20^{th}$ C is regarded as the period of conformity rather than opposition with various alternatives appropriated to the mainstream, so the traditional sexual ideology in fashion of this period is still preserved. Finally, in post-capitalism period of the latter 20C a variety of anti-fashion visualized plural sexuality from the enormous oppositional discourses. Although it doesn't all mean deconstruction of sexuality in fashion by the anti-fashion re-appropriated without oppositional meanings, pluralization of sexuality implies dynamics of sexual discourses in the next historical period. As a result, fashion since the latter 19C has been changed as a means for expressing age and sexual desire out of gender and class. And mainstream fashion in even postmodern period keeps the modern value on the center of the hegemonic heterosexual masculinity though the increase of Androgynous Femininity in women's fashion may connote the meaning of femininity. The plural sexuality represented in fashion has a contextual flexibility, thus sexuality floats with a specific socio-cultural context and fashion represents a masquerade as an identity vehicle.

현대 건축에 있어서 전통성의 의미와 표현에 관한 연구 (A study on the Tradition of Meaning and Express in Contemporary Architecture)

  • The aim of this study is to examine the expression of the meaning of tradition and the archetype of korean image in it in order to find out korean image on reflection of the meaning of tradition. The results are as follows. 1) The nature of tradition illuminates the past, and lights up the present. It cannot be a portrait which enable to have a future prospect and also a cornerstone a tutore pave the way for of the better direction. 2) It's meaning like to say that korean style it self is considered as an expression of tradition. But it korean tradition has a tradition course in a dialectical way, new creation will be possible, 3) The social and cultural aspects change as time goes by through the tendency of society and it's culture we can get some imformation about the inner spirit of human being. The inner spirit of human being is the spirit of our nation so that we can get oringinality from the culture of our nation. 4) On the aspect of idea oganic system must be visualized on the basis of scale whichs accustomed to our emotion. 5) We can also find out the growing tendency that architects are willing to express the typological image as spacial arrangement and ideology of the Korean image to their works recently. It can be defined that it is a progressive tendency for the expression of Korean image in contemporary architecture. This study is needed to have move practical and concrete examination in order to approach more ideologically the expression of the sense of tradition.

문화유적의 공간적 입지 유형 분석 (An Analysis of Cultural Relics Location)

  • 조상들의 삶에 관한 흔적인 문화유적은 그 당시의 공간적인 입지에 대한 선인들의 사상을 알아볼 수 있는 좋은 자료다. 본 연구는 문화유적들을 유형별로 분류하고, 각각의 유형별 유적의 입지 특징을 보다 계량적으로 분석하기 위하여 GIS와 삼각다이어그램을 이용하여 분석하였다. 문화유적의 공간적인 입지를 분석하기 위한 지표로는 고도, 도로 접근성, 용수확보가능성의 세 가지 변수를 이용하였다. 분석 결과 각각의 문화유적들은 시대별 유형별로 일정한 분포측정을 보였으며, 이는 문화유적의 분포와 입지에 대한 지리적 관점에서의 접근 가능성이 높음을 의미하는 것이기도 하다. 선사시대에서 역사시대로 넘어오면서 문화유적의 입지는 용수확보가능성이 우수한 지점에서 교통 접근성이 우수한 지점으로 이동하였다. 그리고 각 시대의 지배계급이 남긴 유적들은 대부분 우수한 입지를 보였다.

지역사회를 위한 현대 교회의 공간 활용에 관한 연구 - 본당을 중심으로- (A Study on the Spatial Utilities of Contemporary Church for Community -Focused on the main hall-)

  • 현대 교회의 본당 공간은 비효율적으로 사용되어져 왔다. 이 연구는 단지 예배만을 위한 공간으로 존재했던 본당 공간의 다양한 활용 방안을 모색함으로써 지역사회를 위해 이 공간을 어떻게 사용해야 하는가를 제안하는 것이다. 이러한 연구는 지역사회를 위한 교회의 책임을 주장하는 현대 신학적 이론에도 그 근거를 두고 있다. 이 연구를 위해 360명의 성직자, 교인, 지역주민을 대상으로 2003년 10월부터 2004년 3월까지 설문 조사를 하였다. 이 논문의 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 성직자, 교인, 지역주민 모두는 교회가 지역 사회와 밀접한 관계를 가져야 한다고 생각하고 있었다. 2. 이를 위해 본당의 경우 예배 이외에 음악회, 극장, 공연장, 장례식, 결혼식 같은 문화적 기능을 감당 할 수 있는 복합적인 공간계획이 필요하다. 3. 새로이 교회가 신축되거나 증축될 때에는, 지역사회를 위한 봉사 기능과 함께 교회 시설을 최대한 사용할 수 있는 프로그램을 고려한 건축계획이 반영되어야 한다.

전인 교육을 위한 수학 학습 자료 개발.활용에 관한 연구 -대학수학능력시험 이후 고등학교 3학년을 대상으로- (A Study on Development and Utilization of the Mathematical Teaching Materials for the Whole Man Education -For the 3rd Graders in High School after the Scholastic Ability Test-)

  • In this information-oriented society of the 21st century, our education should combine the knowledge from the past and present in order to have students be ready to solve “the problems in the future”. But nowadays, our social situation makes much importance of the “cramming” education just for the College Scholastic Ability Test rather than the “whole man” education for making creative citizens of the future society. So does mathematics education. In a high school, mathematics education should be toward these aims: recognizing the value of math, applying mathematical principles to actual lives, promoting students' thinking ability. Also, it should focus on teaching higher level of mathematical knowledge which includes more logical and abstract idea so that students can prepare for the global society of the future. This study is about development and utilization of the teaching materials for mathematics class which usually deviates from the routine right after the Scholastic Ability Test finished. These materials are the result of a complete survey of the 3rd graders and their teachers and designed to use for 30 periods of class from after-the-test-finished to graduation. The materials consist of a history of mathematics, puzzles, magic number squares, and so on. Remarkably different from the current textbooks which deal with sets, equations, functions, these materials proved to be useful for their variety and attraction. Consequently, the materials are considered to keep the 3rd graders from forgetting mathematics even after the Scholastic Ability Test, and to help them recognize that mathematics is a kind of basic and cultural study and a tool of daily lives.

만화분석에 관한 방법론적 고찰 (Methodological Review of Cartoon Analysis)

  • 만화는 감정을 보충하는 만화기호, 스토리에 따른 등장인물의 표정, 행동, 시선, 대사 등으로 메시지를 전달하고 있는데, 만화에 표현되어 있는 이러한 커뮤니케이션 스타일을 ${\ulcorner}$만화 커뮤니케이션 스타일${\lrcorner}$이라고 정의할 수 있다. 또한, 만화는 문화적, 사회적 산물이기 때문에 ${\ulcorner}$만화 커뮤니케이션 스타일${\lrcorner}$에 대한 이해는 그 문화와 사회를 이해하기 위한 중요한 수단이 될 수 있고, 만화제작과 만화교류에 있어서도 그 역할이 크다. 이러한 ${\ulcorner}$만화 커뮤니케이션 스타일${\lrcorner}$을 보다 명확하게 파악하기 위해서 체계적이고 객관적인 ${\ulcorner}$만화분석${\lrcorner}$을 위한 연구방법이 요구된다. 본 연구는, 기호학적 관점에서 한국, 일본의 출판만화 총 30,081컷의 분석을 통해 만화표현에 대한 인지적 성향을 고찰했다. 그 결과, 만화는 다음의 3가지 규칙(One-Root식, One-Idea식, One-Style식)에 따라 분석기준으로서 코드화가 가능함을 알 수 있었다.

거주와 건립에 관한 한 고찰 (A Study on Dwelling and Building)

  • Since Modern period which is characterized by the governing of technology and capitalism, the production and aesthetics of building became a main issue of architectural discourse. Morever, Modern architecture tends to be a kind of media in which the visual image of building plays a far more important role than building itself. Institutionalized discipline of Architecture in modern system set aside the dwelling aspect of building and destructed close relationship between dwelling and building. This study analyzes the essential meaning of dwelling with a viewpoint of building and vise virsa in order to have a deep reflection on contemporary architecture and modern crisis of dwelling. For this purpose this study first reviewed linguistic and mythical narratives on the origin of dwelling and building. Secondly, reviewed the thought of Heidegger on dwelling and building and his thinking on authenticity of dwelling. Thirdly, reviewed drastic change of idea and reality of dwelling recent days, especially from settlement to nomad. Lastly reviewed E. Levinas' thinking on bodily dwelling or primordial mode of dwelling before poetic dwelling of Heidegger. With these review we can figure out following things on dwelling and building. Physical building or its visual image can not take the place of dwelling in itself. Dwelling and Building happens simultaneously and understood as an event in life world. Today's alienation of dwelling from building reduced our conception of architecture to a physical setting and mere technique. Building must be a ontological and cultural phenomenon beyond physical building. Nomad in this age of information and globalization may be a new mode of dwelling. But it can not exclude traditional way of dwelling on concrete space, because human being as a physical being can not abandon dwelling place that gives a primordial comfort with and within our body.

  • In terms of the way we perceive the world, the history of human beings might be said to be a history of two incompatible forces -'science' and 'myth.' Until today, both indispensable aspects have made human existence possible and characterized human culture. Nonetheless, an essential definition of myth has never been clearly explained. What is the general philosophical thought about myth? Current well known interpretations are so called Enlightenment and Romanticism of myth, which both has same criticism that they has not generally considered myth in terms of its technical function or specified contents. One who overcomes the limit of two current extreme beliefs on myth and also who concerned more with the ultimate origin of myth and its relation to the structure of poetry than the source of its vital accomplishments is philosopher Hans Blumenberg. For him myth is an artificial means and an answers to overcome the 'absolutism of reality.' On this point, the research concerns basically two issues. One is to investigate the functional and structural characters of myth through philosopher Hans Blumenberg's anthropological reflections. The other is to analyze architect Tadao Ando's works and thinking. The intention of the paper is not only to explore the relationship between philosophical theory of Blumenberg and Ando's architectural works, but also to suggest a new critical understanding on architecture from mythological point of view. I also expect that this research will suggests a concrete theoretical idea for constructing and construing artistic form and cultural space.

언어상대성 원칙의 역사 인식론적 토대 -문화 언어학을 위한 서설- (Epistemologico-Historic Foundations of Linguistic Relativity)

  • This paper reexamines ideas about linguistic relativity in the light of new interest in the theoretical climate. The original idea is based on the incommensurability of the semantic structures of different languages. On this view, language, thought, culture are deeply interconnected, so that each language might be associated with it a distinctive world view. Throughout this work I utilize the historico-epistemological standpoint to dissect the conceptual structure of this principle. In the introduction I will of for a justification of choice of the theme. Section 1 will address some essential definition of the linguistic principle and insist on the necessity to elaborate a typological spectrum of relativism and universalism. In the second section some important landmarks of linguistic relativity were marked from Plato to Humboldt via Condillac and Herder. 1 will subdivide the relativity hypothesis into 3 theses which are interlated. In the final section the epistemological structure of the linguistic principle will be analysed in some detail by providing my exposition of Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. By way of conclusion I will present the works of Wierzbicka who demonstrated the lexicons of different languages suggest different conceptual universes. By rejecting analytical tools derived from the English language she proposed instead a natural semantic metalanguage based on lexical universals, which is made up of universal semantic primitives. In this paper we attempted to construct a general problematics of linguistic relativity, focolizing on the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. We devided this very problematic question into its ontological and epistemological dimensions. In particular the ambivalance of Whorf's relativity is discussed in some detail. Also, an archeological survey of this subtle question on the relation between language, thinking and culture was provided. (from Aristotle to Humboldt, via Condillac and Nitzche). In conclusion this investigation underlines the necessity of preparing the cultural linguistics to enlarge the scope of contempory linguistics.
