The rates of aquation of sparteine cobalt(II) halide and sparteine copper(II) halide were investigated in the citrate buffer solutions. The aquation of cobalt(II) complexes proceeds via D-mechanism and the catalytic effect of halide ions is not observed. The aquation of copper(II) complexes proceeds via $I_d$-mechanism and is catalyzed by the presence of cyanide and halide ions, and the aquation rate is pH dependent. The different mechanistic behavior of cobalt(II) complexes from corresponding copper(II) complexes seems to be attributed to the weakness of Co-N bond in the coordination sphere.
Synthesis of unsymmetrical trisannelated benzenes such as 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11-decahydro-1H-cyclopenta[l]phenanthrene (1c) and 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10-decahydrobenz[e]-as-indacene (1d) is described. The synthetic approach involves efficient condensation of pre-formed enones such as bicyclohexyliden-2-one (3), bicyclohexyl-1-en-2-one (4) and bicyclopentyliden-2-one (5) in the presence of cyclopentanone and cyclohexanone using anhydrous $CuCl_2$ as a catalyst.
BACKGROUND: This study was performed for selecting yeast mutants with a high tolerance for targeted metals, and determining whether yeasts strains tolerant to multiple heavy metals could be induced by sequential adaptations. METHODS AND RESULTS: A mutant yeast strain tolerant to the heavy metals cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), and zinc (Zn) was selected by sequential elevated exposures to each metal with intermittent mutant isolation steps. A Cd-tolerant mutant was isolated by growing yeast cells in media containing $CdCl_2$ concentrations that were gradually increased to 1 mM. Then the Cd-tolerant mutant was gradually exposed to increasing levels of $CuCl_2$ in growth media until a concentration of 7 mM was reached, thus generating a strain tolerant to both Cd and Cu. In the subsequent steps, this mutant was exposed to $NiCl_2$ (up to 8 mM), and a resultant isolate was further exposed to $ZnCl_2$ (up to 60 mM), allowing the derivation of a yeast mutant that was simultaneously tolerant to Cd, Cu, Ni, and Zn. CONCLUSION: This method of inducing tolerance to multiple targeted heavy metals in yeast will be useful in the bioremediation of heavy metals.

Improvement of the color rendering index (CRI) and luminance of a white alternate current powder electroluminescent (ACPEL) device has been attempted using ZnS:Cu,Cl, $Tb_3Al_5O_{12}$:Ce (TAG:Ce), and CaS:Eu phosphors with a layered structure. The device with TAG:Ce and ZnS:Cu,Cl phosphors showed a CRI of 75, with a luminance increase of about 30% depending on the thickness of the TAG:Ce. Further CRI improvement was attempted using CaS:Eu. When they were separately screen-printed, the CRI was increased up to 89 with no decrease in luminance.
The complex[Cu(L)](ClO4)2 (1) (L:3,5,10,12-Tetramethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane) has been synthesized and structurally characterized. The complex 1 crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group P21/n with cell parameters a=8.208(2)Å, b=13.339(6) Å, c=10.752(5) Å, β=111.02(4)˚ Z=2. Least-squares refinement of 1 led to a R(RW)factor of 0.073 (0.142) for 617 observed reflections of F0>40(F0). The crystal structure of 1 has a square-planar geometry and adopts the trans-III conformation.

SrS:Cu, Cl thin films have been grown by the hot wall technique with S furnace placed on the outside of the growth chamber in order to investigate the crystallographic and optical characteristics. The films have a good crystallinity independent of CuCl wall temperature and PL characteristics showed a peak assigned by the transition form $3d^94s^1\;(^3Eg)$ to $3d^{10}\;(^1A_{1g})$ of $Cu^+$ center. It has also been found that. from the PLE spectra, $Cu^+$ luminescent centers are doped in the host materials. The EL emission from SrS:Cu-based device showed a greenish-blue but shifted to short wavelength compared to SrS:Ce-based EL. The device was obtained the maximum luminance of $110cd/m^2$ and the maximum luminous efficiency of $0.1\;lm/W$ at $V_{40}$.

동제련 공정중 Smelting에서 SiO2가 없으면 산화에 의한 생성물은 Molten Cu-Fe-O 'Oxysulphide' 와 Solid Magnetite가 된다. 이 생성물은 Cu-rich Liquid와 Cu-dilute Liquid로 분리가 불가능하다. Smelting의 목적이 Cu가 높은 Matte와 산화된 불순물의 효과적인 분리에 있으므로 이와 같은 분리가 불가능한 혼합상태를 분리해 주어야 한다. 이때 SiO2가 첨가되면 Cu-rich 상인 Matte가 FeO-rich상인 Slag로의 분리가 가능해진다. 이러한 의미에서 동제련에 있어서 규사의 성분은 매우 중요하며 현재 재생사를 규사로 대체 사용하고 있다. 한편 실리콘 모노머 합성 공정인 금속 규소와 접촉 물질(Contact Mass, 구리촉매와 조촉매)을 반응시켜 (Si+CH3Cl ${\rightarrow}$ (CH3)2SiCl3) 실리콘 모노머를 생산하는 공정중 반응이 끝난 접촉물질인 구리 폐촉매가 발생되는데 주요성분이 Cu 12%, Si80%로 재생사와 유사하여 동제련에 투입 가능 여부를 판단하기 위하여 각 공정에서의 용융실험을 통하여 결론을 도출하였고, 실 조업 Test를 거쳐 처리하게 되므로 구리 회수 및 폐기물로써의 매립을 중지 할 수 있었다.

Copper-dimethylglyoxime complex (CuDMG) modified Copper electrode (Cu/CuDMG) showed a catalytic activity towards cyclohexanol oxidation in NaOH solution. The modified electrode prepared by the dimethylglyoxime anodic deposition on Cu electrode in the solution contained 0.20 M $NH_4Cl\;+\;NH_4OH\;(pH\;9.50)\;and\;1\;{\times}\;10^{-4}$ M dimethylglyoxime. The modified electrode conditioned by potential recycling in a potential range of -900${\sim}$900 mV vs. Ag/AgCl by cyclic voltammetry in alkaline medium (1 M NaOH). The results show that the CuDMG film on the electrode behaves as an efficient catalyst for the electro-oxidation of cyclohexanol in alkaline medium via Cu (III) species formed on the electrode.

An equal-molar mixture of silver chloride (AgCl) and copper (Cu) was ground in atmosphere conditions using a planetary ball mill to investigate mechanochemical (MC) reaction for preparation of silver powders. The reaction causes the mixture of AgCl and Cu to change the composition of the mixture, such as silver (Ag) and cuprous chloride (CuCl). Through the leaching with ammonium hydroxide solution (1 mol), CuCl can be separated from MC product, so that pure Ag powders can be obtained as the final product. Moreover, polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) was used as the additive not only to improve dispersion of Ag pow- der during MC process, but also to control surface oxidation of Ag powders, prepared as the final product.

This study was carried out to evaluate effects of either organic or inorganic sources of both chromium and copper on growth performances, nutrients digestibility and fecal Cr, Cu, and Zn excretion in growing pigs. A total of 36 growing pigs((Landrace×Yorkshire)×Duroc, weighing 61.2kg in average) were allotted to 4 treatments with 3 replicates and 3 pigs per replicate. Four treatments were designated by supplemental sources of both chromium and copper as follows: ①200ppb Cr as Cr-methionine chelate(CrMet) and 200ppm Cuas copper methionine chelate(CuMet), ②200ppb Cr as CrMet and 200ppm Cu as copper sulfate(CuSO4), ③200ppb Cr as chromium chloride(CrCl3) and 200ppm Cu as CuMet, ④200ppb Cr as CrCl3 and 200ppm Cu as CuSO4. Growth performance was highest(p<0.05) in CrMet and CuMet supplemented diet treatment. Nutrients digestibility of diets was lowest(p<0.05) in CrMet and CuSO4 supplemented diet treatment, and highest(p<0.05) in CrMet and CuMet supplemented diet treatment. Fecal copper, zinc and chromium excretion was highest(p<0.05) in CrCl3 and CuSO4 supplementation treatment and lowest(p<0.05) in CrMet and CuMet supplementation treatment. This study showed a relatively high degree of utilization of Cr and Cu as well as Zn by supplementation of CrMet and CuMet compared with those of the inorganic sources.
