Poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene ether) (PPE) was synthesized using $Cu(NO_2)_2{\cdot}3H_2O$ or CuCl catalyst with various amounts of ligand and base in several different solvent systems. CuCl/1-methylimidazole/ammonium hydroxide was found to be an effective catalyst system which showed the highest polymer yield and molecular weight. The effects of catalyst/monomer ratio, different amine ligands, and the content of mono-functional reagent 2,4,6-trimethylphenol (TMP) additive on the polymer yield and molecular weight were investigated. Among the co-solvent systems used in this polymerization, chloroform/methanol 9/1(v/v) gave the highest polymer yield and molecular weight ($\overline{M_n}$ 55 K, $\overline{M_w}$ 92 K, PDI 1.7). The catalytic activity between CuCl and CuI was compared by oxygen-uptake experiments and the formation of sideproduct, 5,5'-tetramethyl-4,4'-diphenoquinone (DPQ), was analyzed by ultraviolet spectroscopy.

Prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) is a cell surface membrane protein, which is overexpressed in most prostate cancer. Recently, PET imaging with $[^{68}Ga]$PSMA-HBED-CC has been widely used for the diagnosis of recurrent prostate cancer and the studies on the diagnostic potential of $^{64}Cu$-labeled PSMA ligands reported actively. In this study, we monitored with biological evaluation in vivo and PET imaging of $^{64}Cu$-labeled PSMA ligand ($[^{64}Cu]$PSMA-617). The radiolabelling efficiency and stability of $[^{64}Cu]$PSMA-617 were confirmed by radio-thin layer chromatography. The radiolabeling efficiency of $[^{64}Cu]$PSMA-617 showed over 95%, and stabilities of intact remained over 98% in both human and mouse serum for 48 h. In normal male mice, in vivo uptake of $[^{64}Cu]$PSMA-617 in several organs was measured at 2, 4, 6, 24, 48 h after injection. Rapid blood clearance was observed for $[^{64}Cu]$PSMA-617. The high uptake was observed in the lung, liver, intestines and kidneys at 2 h postinjection, but was low in the other organs (1-2 %ID/g) at 4 h. The dynamic PET/CT images of 22RV1 tumor-bearing nude mice were acquired during 60 min and additionally acquired 24 h and 48 h after injection. In dynamic PET images, $[^{64}Cu]$PSMA-617 uptake ratio in tumors versus muscle was increased as time elaplsed until 60 minutes and remained in tumors at 48 h. In these results, the PET/CT imaging using $[^{64}Cu]$PSMA-617 in prostate cancer is expected to be useful for the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer patients.

Different bioligands carrying synthetic adsorbents have been reported in the literature for protein separation, We have developed a novel and new approach to obtain high protein ad-sorption capacity utilizing 2-methacrylamidohistidine(MAH) as a bioligand. MAH was synthe-sized by reacting methacrylocholride and histidine, Spherical beads with an average size of 150-200㎛ were obtained by the radical suspension polymerization of MAH and 2-hydrosyethyl-methacrylate(HEMA) conducted in an aqueous dispersion medium. p(HEMA-co-MAH) beads had a specific surface area of 17.6㎡/g . Synthesized MAH monomer was characterized by NMR. p(HEMA-co-MAH) beads were characterized by swelling test, FTIR and elemental analysis. Then Cu(II) ions were incorporated onto the beads and Cu(II) loading was found to be 0.96 mmol/g.These affinity beads with a swelling ration of 65% and containing, 1.6 mmol MAH/g were used in the adsorption/desorption of human serum albumin(HSA) from both aqueous solutions and hu-man serum. The adsorption of HSA onto p(HEM-co-MAH) was low(8.8 mg/g). Cu(II) chelation onto the beads significantly increased the HSA adsorption (56.3 mg/g). The maximum HSA ad-sorption ws observed at pH 8.0 Higher HSA adsorption was observed from human plasma(94.6 mgHSA/g) Adsorption of other serum proteins were obtained as 3.7 mg/g for fibrinogen and 8.5mg/g for γ-globulin. The total protein adsorption was determined as 107.1mg/g. Desorption of HSA was obtained using 0.1 M Tris/HCl buffer containing 0.5 M NaSCN, High desorption rations(up to 98% of the adsorbed HSA) were observed. It was possible to reuse Cu(II) chelated-p(HEMA-co-MAH) beads without significant decreases in the adsorption capacities.

Two new complexes with 5-methyl-1-(pyridine-3-yl)-1H-1,2,3-triazole-4-carboxylic acid (Hmptc) ligand: [$Cd(mptc)_2(H_2O)_4$] (1) and $[Cu(mptc)_4{\cdot}2H_2O]_n$ (2) were prepared and their crystal structures were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses. In complex 1, the Cd(II) ions coordinates with the pyridyl nitogen atom from the Hmptc ligand, forming a mononuclear Cd(II) compound. Complex 2 exhibits a novel two-dimensional (2D) polymer in which four Hmptc ligands stabilize the Cu(II) atom. And the coordination involves one nitrogen atom of the triazole, one oxygen atom of the carboxylic acid and the pyridyl nitrogen atom. In addition, FT-IR and solid-state fluorescent emission spectroscopy of two compounds have been determined.

A Cu,Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1) cDNA was cloned from the spider, Araneus ventricosus. The A. ventricosus SOD1 (AvSOD1) cDNA contains an open reading frame of 495 bp encoding 165 amino acid polypeptide with a predicted molecular mass of 17,114 Da and pI of 6.55, and possesses the typical metal binding ligands of six histidines and one aspartic acid common to SOD1s. The deduced amino acid sequence of the AvSOD1 cDNA showed $51\%$ identity to Ceratitis capitata SOD1, and $50\%$ to SOD1 sequences of both Drosophila melanogaster and Chymomyza amoena. Northern blot analysis revealed the presence of AvSOD1 transcripts in all tissues examined.
The dipole moments for octahedral [Co(III)-$O_3N_3$], tetrahedral [M(II)-$O_2N_2$] and square planar [M(II)-$O_2N_2$] types complexes are calculated by the expansion method for spherical harmonics using the valence basis sets for the central metal ion and the single basis set orbital ($2p_z$) for ligands. The calculated dipole moments for these complexes are in agreement with the experimental values.
Two novel copper(II) complexes, [Cu(dmamhp)$(H_2O)_2(SO_4)]_n$ (1) and [Cu(dmamhp)$(NO_3)_2(H_2O)]{\cdot}H_2O$ (2) [dmamhp = 2-dimethylaminomethyl-3-hydroxypyridine] have been synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Compound 1 displays a double one-dimensional chains structure, in which each chain is constituted with the distorted octahedral copper(II) complex bridged through bidentate sulfate ligands resulting in a coordination polymer. The bifurcated hydrogen bonds and $\pi-\pi$ interactions play important roles in the formation of the double chains structure. On the other hand, compound 2 adopts a distorted square pyramidal geometry around copper(II) ion and exists as a discrete monomer. There are intermolecular bifurcated hydrogen bonds and $\pi-\pi$ stacking interactions between the monomeric units. The magnetic properties revealed that the paramagnetic behaviors are dominantly manifested and there are no intermolecular magnetic interactions in both compound 1 and 2.
Novel copper(II) complexes have been synthesized from the macrocyclic Schiff bases derived from Knoevenagel condensed ${\beta}$-ketoanilides (obtained by the condensation of acetoacetanilide and substituted benzaldehydes), 4-aminoantipyrine and ophenylene diamine. The structural features have been determined from their analytical and spectral data. All the Cu(II) complexes exhibit square planar geometry. Their high molar conductance values support their 1 : 2 electrolytic nature. The magnetic moment data provide evidence for the monomeric nature of the complexes. The X-band ESR spectra of the |$CuL^1$|$(OAc)_2$ in DMSO solution at 300 and 77 K were recorded and their salient features are reported. The in vitro biological screening effects of the investigated compounds were tested against the bacterial species Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris and Pseudomonas aeruginosa and fungal species Aspergillus niger, Rhizopus stolonifer, Aspergillus flavus, Rhizoctonia bataicola and Candida albicans by well diffusion method. A comparative study of inhibition values of the Schiff bases and their complexes indicate that complexes exhibit higher antimicrobial activity than the Schiff bases. Copper ions proved to be essential for the growth-inhibitor effect. The extent of inhibition appeared to be strongly dependent on the initial cell density and on the growth medium.
The potentiometric methods have been used to determined the protonation constants (logKiH) for the synthesized 1,7,13-trioxa-4,10,16-triazacyclooctadecane-N,N',N''-tri(methylacetic acid) [N3O3-tri(methylacetic acid)] and the stability constants (logKML) of the complexes of divalent and trivalent metal ions with the ligand N3O3-tri(methylacetic acid). The protonation constants of N3O3-tri(methylacetic acid) were 9.70 for logK1H, 9.18 for logK2H, 7.27 for logK3H, 3.38 for logK4H, and 2.94 for logK5H. The stability constants for the complexes of divalent metal ions with N3O3-tri(methylacetic acid) were 10.39 for Co2+, 10.68 for Ni2+, 13.45 for Cu2+, and 13.00 for Zn2+. The order of the stability constants for the complexes of the divalent metal ions with N3O3-tri(methylacetic acid) was Co2+ < Ni2+ < Zn2+ < Cu2+. The stability constants for the complexes of trivalent metal ions with N3O3-tri(methylacetic acid) were 16.20 for Ce3+, 16.40 for Eu3+, 16.27 for Gd3+, and 15.80 for Yb3+. The results obtained in this study were compared to those obtained for similar ligands, 1,7-dioxa-4,10,13-triazacyclopentadecane-N,N',N"-tri(methylacetic acid) and 1,7,13-trioxa-4,10,16-triazacyclooctadecane-N,N',N"-triacetic acid, which have been previously reported.

Fibrous adsorbents containing amidoxime group which make chelate complexes with uranyl ions are studied for the recovery of uranium from sea water. Acrylic fibers are used as base Polymer. The adsorption properties of uranium are carried out to examine pH effect, concen-tration dependence, adsorption rate, separation, and chelate complex. The results obtained are as follows; 1. Metal capacity of U (VI) ion is in the range of pH $2\~10.2$. Amidoxime group-containing fiber recover U (VI) ions existed in sea water or waste water in extremely small quantities. 3. Using amidoxime group-containing fiber Cu (II) and U (VI) are separated with each other in dilute nitric acid solution (pH 2.3). 4. U (VI) chelate complexes are conformed by tridendate ligands, which are coordinated with one nitrogen and two oxygens onto amidoxime group-containing fiber.
