  • The purpose of this research was to develop a low Ni austenitic cast iron through replacing Ni by Cu and Mn because they are cheaper than Ni. The effect of the Cu content (6-12 wt%) on the microstructure characteristics was investigated in Fe-3%C-16%(Ni+Cu+Mn) cast iron. Contrary to general effect of the Cu on cast iron, the result of the microstructure analysis indicated that bainite and cementite were formed in high Cu content (>8 wt%Cu). A crystallized Cu-solution (Cu-Mn) phase and MnS in the Cu-solution were formed. The quantity of those phases increased as the Cu content increased. Consequently, the high Cu content in the composition ratio (Ni+Cu+Mn=16%) caused the formation of Cu-Mn/MnS and those phases decreased the effect of Cu and Mn on austenite formation. For this reason, bainite and cementite were formed in high Cu content.

  • This pot experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of systematic variation appling of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn on forage performance of orchardgrass and white clover, The treatments of systematic variation were 0/100. 25/75, 50/50. 75/25, and $100/0\%$ in the Fe/Cu, Mn/Zn, and Fe+Cu/Mn+Zn trials, respectively. The treatments of Fe/Mn/Cu/Zn trial were $70\%$ in main-element and $10\%$ in other 3sub-elements. 1 . General differences had been showed in the relative contents, uptake amounts, and mutual ratios of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn between orchardgrass and white clover. The effects of Fe application on the all traits were generally insignificant. The Mn and Cu applications, however, showed consistent differences in the all traits. At the high relative content of Mn in the forages influenced by the Mn application, the relative contents of Fe, Cu and Zn were greatly decreased without the significant differences in common content. 2. The increase of uptake amount of each micronutrient was not positively correspond to the yield increase. In some cases, the uptake amount of micronutrient was greatly increased without the significant increase of yield. At the Mn application, the Mn uptake amount was relatively much more increased than increase of the yield. The uptake amount of each element was significantly increased by the application with Mn and Cu. However, it was not in the case of Fe and Zn. 3. The mutual ratios of micronutrients were more influenced by the applications of Mn and Cu, especially Mn, than those by the applications of Fe and Zn. In the Fe/cu trial, the ratios of Fe/Cu showed 6.0~ 10.5 in orchardgrass and 10.2~ $16.4\%$ level of difference in white clover. In the Fe+Cu/Mn+Zn trial, the ratios of Mn/Cu, Mn/Zn, and Fe/Mn were greatly influenced by the treatments. It has been also found that the poor growth of white clover was caused by the unbalanced ratios of Fe/Mn, and it tended to be enhanced by the good applications and mutual ratios of other elements.

The treatments of systematic variation were 0/100, 25/75, 50/50, 75/25, and $100/0\%$ in the Fe/Cu(trial-1), Mn/Zn(trial-2), and Fe+Cu/Mn+Zn(trial-3), respectively. The treatments of Fe/Mn/Cu/Zn(trial-4) were $70\%$ in main-element and $10\% in other 3 sub-elements, respectively. 1. Compared with orchadgrass, white clover showed relatively consistent differences in the content of micronutrients as influenced by treatments of the systematic variation. The contents of Mn and Cu in the forages were significantly influenced by the application rates of Mn and Cu, respectively. The contents of Fe and Zn in the forages, however, were not significantly different among these treatments. 2. Compared with orchardgrass in the Fe/cu trial, white clover had not only the low content of Cu but also the Cu content and yield of white clover were greatly decreased by the low rate of application of Cu. In the Mn/Zn trial, the $0/100\%$ resulted in the severe decrease of Mn-content in both forages. The low content of Mn in white clover tended to be negatively correlated to the Mn-chlorosis, inferior growth and flowering, and low yield. 3. In the Fe+Cu/Mn+Zn trial, the application with $0/100\%$ and $0/100\%$ resulted in the relatively great decrease of Cu and Mn contents, respectively. These traits in white clover tended to be negatively correlated to the inferior growth and flowering, and low yield 4. In the Fe/Mn/Cu/Zn trial, the content of every main-elements in the forages were increased especially in Mn. In addition, the contents of sub-elements were likely to be somewhat negatively influenced by the treatment of main-element respectively.

  • ZnS:Mn yellow phosphors doped with Cu for white light emitting diodes were synthesized by solid state reaction method. The optical properties and structures of ZnS:Mn,Cu phosphors were investigated by x-ray diffraction, photoluminescence, and scanning electro microscopy. Photoluminescence excitation spectra originated from $Mn^{2+}$ were ranged from 450 nm to 500 nm. The yellow emission at around 580 nm was associated with $^4T_1{\rightarrow}^6A_1$ transition of $Mn^{2+}$ ions in ZnS:Mn,Cu phosphors. The highest photoluminescence intensity of the phosphors under 405 nm excitation was obtained at Cu concentration of 0.02 mol%. The enhanced photoluminescent intensity in the ZnS:Mn,Cu phosphors was interpreted by energy transfer from Cu to Mn.

  • The Cu-Mn mixed oxide catalysts with different molar ratios of Cu/(Cu+Mn) prepared by co-precipitation method have been investigated in CO oxidation at $30^{\circ}C$. The catalysts used in this study were characterized by X-ray Diffraction (XRD), $N_2$ sorption, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and $H_2$-temperature programmed reduction $(H_2-TPR)$ to correlate with catalytic activities in CO oxidation. The $N_2$ adsorption-desorption isotherms of Cu-Mn mixed oxide catalysts showed a type 4 having pore range of 7-20 nm and BET surface area was increased from 17 to $205\;m^2{\cdot}g^{-1}$ with increasing of Mn content. The XPS analysis showed the surface oxidation state of Cu and Mn represented $Cu^{2+}$and the mixture of $Mn^{3+}$ and $Mn^{4+}$, respectively. Among the catalysts studied here, Cu/(Cu+Mn) = 0.5 catalyst showed the highest activity at $30^{\circ}C$ in CO oxidation and the catalytic activity showed a typical volcano-shape curve with respect to Cu/(Cu+Mn) molar ratios. The water vapor showed a prohibiting effect on the efficiency of the catalyst which is due to the competitive adsorption of carbon monoxide on the active sites of catalyst surface and finally the formation of hydroxyl group with active metals.

  • This pot experiment was. conducted to investigate the effects of systematic variation application of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn on forage performance of orchardgrass and white clover. The treatments of systematic variation were 0/100, 25/75, 50/50, 75/25, and 100/0% in the Fe/Cu(trial-1), Mn/Zn(trial-2), and Fe + Cu/Mn + Zn(trial-3), respectively. The treatments of Fe/Mn/Cu/Zn(trial-4) were composed of 70% in main element and 10% in other 3 elements, respectively. 1. In general, the unbalanced applications of Fe and Mn resulted in the Mn and Fe deficiencies(chlorosis) on white clover, respectively, because of the antagonism between Fe and Mn. In white clover, the traits of growth, root/nodule, and flowering, which were influenced by the systematic variation of Fe, Mn, Cu, and Zn, were closely correlated to each other. In the Fe/Cu trial, the 0/100 and 25/75 induced a Fe-deficiency on white clover, and the 0/100 also showed poor root growth and flowering. In addition, the 50/50 and 75/25 showed an early flowering of white clover. 2. In the Mn/Zn trial, the 0/100 induced a severe Mn-deficiency(chlorosis) on white clover. The 25/75 and 50/50, however, diminished the chlorosis symptom. The 75/25 and 100/0 showed generally good root growth and flowering of white clover. 3. In the Fe + Cu/Mn + Zn trial, the 0/100 induced a Fe-deficiency, and the 100/0 induced a Mn-deficiency on white clover, which were correlated to the poor root growth and flowering. The 75/25 showed good root growth and flowering of white clover. 1be flowering of white clover tended to be more influenced by the Fe + Cu than by the Mn + Cu ratios. 4. In the Fe/Mn/Cu/Zn trial, the Fe and Mn deficiencies on white clover, which were influenced by the Mn and Fe treatments, also occurred. The Cu and Zn-deficiency symptoms, however, were not recognized. General differences have been showed in the numbers of flowers as following orders; Zn > Cu > Mn > Fe - 70% treatments.

  • The catalytic combustion of toluene was investigated on the Cu-Mn oxide catalysts prepared by the deposition-precipitation method. Experiment of toluene combustion was performed with a fixed bed flow reactor in the temperature range of $100{\sim}280^{\circ}C$. Among the catalysts, 1.29Cu/Mn showed the most activity at $260^{\circ}C$. The deposition-precipitation method may be showed the potential to enhance the activity of catalysts. The catalysts were characterized by BET, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), temperature-programmed reduction (TPR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. On the basis of catalyst characterization data, the results showed that the surface of catalysts by deposition-precipitation method had uniform distribution and smaller particle size, which enhanced the reduction capability of catalysts. The XRD results showed that $Cu_{1.5}Mn_{1.5}O_{4}$ spinel phase was made by deposition-precipitation method, and increased catalyst activity and redox characteristic. It was assumed that the reduction step of $Cu_{1.5}Mn_{1.5}O_{4}$ spinel phase progressed $Cu_{1.5}Mn_{1.5}O_{4}\;to\;CuMnO_{2},\;and\;Cu_{2}O\;to\;CuMn_{2}O_{4}\;and\;Cu$.

  • The catalytic oxidation of toluene over $-Al_2O_3$ supported copper-manganese oxide catalysts in the temperature range of $160-280^{\circ}C$ was investigated by employing a fixed bed flow reactor. The catalysts were characterized by BET, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), temperature-programmed reduction(TPR), temperature-programmed oxidation(TPO), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and X-ray diffraction(XRD) techniques. Catalytic oxidation of toluene was achieved at the below $280^{\circ}C$, and the optimal content of copper and manganese in the catalyst was found to be 15.0 wt%Cu-10.0 wt%Mn. From the TPR/TPO and XPS results, the redox peak of 15 Cu-10 Mn catalyst shifted to the lower temperature, and the binding energy was shifted to the higher binding energy. Furthermore, It is considered that $Cu_{1.5}Mn_{1.5}O_4$ is superior to Mn oxides and CuO in the role as active factor of catalysts from the XRD results and also catalytic activities are dependent on the redox ability and high oxidation state of catalysts.

  • In this paper, we fabricated Cu/Mn alloy shunt resistor with low resistance and thermal stability for use of mobile electronic devices. We designed metal alloy composed of copper (Cu) and manganese (Mn) to embody in low resistance and low TCR which are conflict each other. Cu allows high electrical conductivity and Mn serves thermal stability in this Cu/Mn alloy system. We confirmed the elemental composition of the designed metal alloy system by using energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. We obtained low resistance below $10m{\Omega}$ and low temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) below $100ppm/^{\circ}C$ from the designed Cu/Mn alloy resistor. And in order to minimize resistance change caused by alternative frequency on circuit, shape design of the metal alloy wire is performed by rolling process. Finally, we conclude that design of the metal alloy system was successfully done by alloying Cu and 3 wt% of Mn, and the Cu/Mn alloy resistor has low resistance and thermal stability.
