  • The lapping characteristics of single crystal diamond are studied by considering the crystallographic anisotropy. It is introduced for lapping method to identify crystallographic orientantion by the X-ray diffraction and to measure lapping force ratio, lapping temperature and lapping wear. Diamound bonded wheels are used for lapping under dry condition. On the lapping {110} and {100} planes, it shows remarkable crystallographic anistropy. The lapping force ratio, temperature and wear become gerater with sliding direction along the <100> than along <110>. The results also show that the wear of diamond is influenced by mechanical work(tangential lapping force * lapping distance) as well by lapping speed.

  • We prepared Co-Cr-Ta and Co-Cr-Ta/Ti thin film for perpendicular magnetic recording media by facing targets sputtering system (FTS system). Ti underlayer effects on crystallographic and magnetic characteristics of Co-Cr-Ta perpendicular magnetic recording media have been investigated. Crystallgraphic and magnetic characteristic of prepared thin films were evaluated by x-ray diffractometry(XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM) and kerr hysteresis loop measurement. The coercivity and anisotropy field increase by introduced Ti underlayer when substrate temperature is higher than 150$^{\circ}C$. The c-axis dispersion angle and grain size of Co-Cr-Ta/Ti thin film is decrease than Co-Cr-Ta when substrate temperature is higher than 100$^{\circ}C$. Consequently, the use of a Ti underlayer highly orientated can be improved crystallographic and magnetic characteristics of Co-Cr -Ta perpendicular media layer.

  • Formability of sheet metals can be evaluated using tensile testing. Easily measured tensile properties such as yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, strain hardening exponent, strain rate sensitivity and plastic strain ratio are important parameters to evaluated the sheet formability. This paper briefly explains how these properties are related to deep drawability and stretchability. The plastic anisotropy of sheet metals is usually attributed to the crystallographic texture. However dislocation distribution may influence the anisotropy.

  • Due to extremely large reduction of area or extrusion ratio in ordinary production of extruded profiles, anisotropy is naturally induced by large severe deformation during the extrusion process. Therefore, the anisotropic properties play a great role in the post processing of extruded profiles, such as in bending. Moreover, undesirable deformation will be involved when the deformation-induced anisotropy is ignored. In order to observe the deformation-induced anisotropy of the thin-walled product, the proposed algorithm is applied to some chosen industrial extrusion processes. In the resent work, the method for prediction of deformation-induced anisotropy employing the Barlats six-component yield potential to the rigid-plastic finite element method is proposed. The proposed algorithm is verified with the comparison to the crystallographic texture analysis, and then applied to the C-section exclusion process using a square die. The predicted anisotropy is then compared with the experimental and computational observations for validating the proposed algorithm.

  • The hardening and anisotropy based on the crystal plasticity is considered in the numerical simulation of hemispherical sheet forming process to find more realistic simulation results For calculating the yield shear stresses of each crystal, Taylor's model of the crystalline aggregate is employed. The yield stress of crystalline aggregate is computed by averaging the yield stresses of the crystal. The hardening is evaluated by using the Taylor factor and the critical resolved shear stress of the crystal. In addition, by observing the crystallographic texture and slip system, the anisotropy of the sheet is traced during the forming process. The anisotropy and hardening behaviors of the sheet found by the crystal plasticity are described better than those of obtained from the Hill's quadratic criterion based on the continuum plasticity.

  • On the basis of the energy approach it is reported a development of the yield function and the constitutive equations for the orthotropic material with consideration of the crystal lattice constants and parameters of the crystallographic texture for the general stress state. For practical use in sheet metal forming analysis it is considered different loading scenarios: plane stress and plane strain states. Using the proposed yield function, the influence of single ideal components on the shape of yield surface was analyzed. The six texture components investigated here were cube, Goss, copper, brass, S and rotated cube, as these components are typically observed in rolled sheets from FCC alloys.

  • Dielectric and piezoelectric properties of (Pb1-1.5xLnx)(Ti0.98Mn0.02)O3 ceramics with x=0~0.2 have been investigated. Pb(Ti0.98Mn0.02)O3 showed poor sinterability and cracking on cooling, but the substitution of Nd3+ ions into Pb2+ sites resulted in dense microstructures without cracking through reducing crystallographic anisotropy. The Nd3+ substitution, however, deteriorated the temperature stability of the piezoelectric properties because of lowering the Curie point. Electromechanical anisotropy(Kt/Kp) indicated a maximum value of 10 when x=0.1. This result might be attributed to the counteracting effects that with increasing x, the lattice anisotropy decreases while the poling becomes easier due to the increase in O2- vacancy concentration. Thickness-shear mode resonators with (Pb0.85Nd0.1)(Ti0.98Mn0.02)O3 composition showed good resonant characteristics around 4.5 MHz.

  • This work investigated the electromechanical performance of a cantilevered vibration energy harvester incorporating the single crystal PMN-PZT, manufactured with the most recent technology of solid-state single crystal growth. Single crystal PMN-PZTs with two different crystallographic axes such as [011] and [001] were considered. For the [011] orientation, because material properties such as the stiffness, piezoelectric strain coefficients are not the same in the directions normal to the crystallographic axis, the effects of the transversely anisotropy on the magnitude and frequency bandwidth of output power were also analyzed.

  • The deformations of polycrystalline materials are modelled by linking a constitutive equation for the crystallographic slip of a single crystal to the macroscopic behavior of the aggregate. In this study, anisotropic elasticity (lattice stretching) of a cubic crystal is incoporated into the anisotropic plasticity from crystallographic slip. The constitutive description for the aggregate, derived from a crystal plasticity theory, is used to formulate a Consistent Penalty Finite Element Method for the anisotropic elasto-viscoplastic deformation of polycrystalline materials. As an application, a plane-strain forging process is simulated and the effects of the initial textures on the deformation behavior of the workpiece are examined.
