In this work, energy absorption characteristics and optimal welding space of spot-welded square hat type tube are investigated via quasi-static crush experiments and finite element (FE) analyses. A FE model reflecting the crush characteristics is established based on the experimentally observed crush mechanisms of specimens with welding spaces (20, 30 & 45 mm) and (25,40 & 55 mm) respectively for two specimen widths (60, 75 mm). The established FE model is then applied to other crush models of widths (50, 60 & 75 mm) with various welding spaces (20, 25, 30, 40, 45, 55, 75, 150, 300 mm) respectively. We examine the energy absorption characteristics with respect to the welding space for each specimen width. The outcome suggests an optimal spot welding space of square hat type thin-walled tube. Energy absorption is also presented in terms of yield strength of base metal, specimen thickness, width, and mean crushing force of spot-welded square hat type thin-walled tube.
This paper presents an experimental study results on the crack control of flexure-dominant reinforced concrete beams repaired with strain-hardening cement composite (SHCC). Five RC beams were fabricated and tested until failure. One unrepaired RC beam was a control specimen (CBN) and remaining four speciemens were repaired with SHCC materials. The test parameters included two types of SHCC matrix ductility and two types of repair method (patching and layering). Test results demonstrated that RC beams repaired with SHCC showed no concrete crushing or spalling until final failure, but numerous hair cracks were observed. The control specimen CBN failed due to crushing. It is important to note that SHCC matrix can improve crack-damage mitigation and flexural behavior of RC beams such as flexural strength, post peak ductility, and energy dissipation capacity. In the perspective of crack width, crack widths in RC beams repaired with SHCC had far smaller crack width than the control specimen CBN under the same deflection. Especially, the specimens repaired with SHCC of PVA0.75%+PE0.75% showed a high durability and ductility. The crack width indicates the residual capacity of the beam since SHCC matrix can delay residual capacity degradation of the RC beams.
A large amount of waste copper slag containing about 35 ~ 45% iron has been generated and discarded every year from pyrometallurgical processes for producing copper from copper concentrate. Thus, recovery of iron from the waste copper slag is of great interest for comprehensive use of mineral resource and reduction of environment problems. In this study, a physico-chemical separation process for upgrading iron from the waste copper slag discharged as an industrial waste has been developed. The process first crushes the waste copper slag below 1 mm (first crushing step), followed by carbon reduction at $1225^{\circ}C$ for 90 min (carbon reduction step). And then, resulting material is again crushed to $-104{\mu}m$ (second crushing step), followed by wet magnetic separation (wet magnetic separation step). Using the developed process, a magnetic product containing more than 66 wt.% iron was obtained from the magnetic separation under a magnetic field strength of 0.2 T for the waste copper slag treated by the reduction reaction. At the same conditions, the percentage recovery of iron was over 72%. The iron rich magnetic product obtained should be used as a iron resource for making pig iron.

The number of natural disasters in Korea, such as earthquakes, is increasing. As a result, there is growing need for temporary residences or shelters for disaster conditions. The aim of this study was to produce post-disaster refugees housing differentiated from existing shelters using lightweight composite panels. To accomplish this, the structural performance of lightweight composite panels was validated, and an in-plane shear strength test was conducted according to the ASTM E72 criteria among the performance test methods for panels. As a result of the experiment, the maximum load for each specimen under an in-plane shear load was determined. All the experiments ended with the tear of the panel's skin section. The initial stiffness of the specimens was consistent with that predicted by the calculations. On the other hand, local crushing and tearing, as well as the characteristics of the panel, resulted in a decrease in stiffness and final failure. Specimens with an opening showed a difference in stiffness and strength from the basic experiment. The maximum load and the effective area were found to be proportional. Through this process, the allowable shear stress of the specimens was calculated and the average allowable shear stress was determined. The average ultimate shear stress of the lightweight composite panels was found to be $0.047N/mm^2$, which provides a criterion of judgement that could be used to expect the allowable load of lightweight composite panels.
In this study, the selected waste plastic waste logistics used for cement sintering were classified into two types through the process of sorting and crushing, analyzing the characteristics of each, and analyzing the correlation of the strength after cement manufacturing. The experimental variables were classified into soft and hard waste plastic waste, and the correlations between calorific value, chlorine, and moisture were analyzed. In addition, some of each waste was selected and melted, and the basic characteristics were evaluated by analyzing the structure and calorific value. The results of the experiment showed that it was evaluated that it is suitable to obtain a heat source by separating soft waste plastic wastes and sintering them with materials having similar properties. As a result of examining the wastes by strength after cement manufacturing, it was analyzed that the use of hard plastics greatly contributes to the compressive strength on the 1st and 28th, and the use of soft plastics contributes to the compressive strength on the 28th. However, these characteristics are evaluated by collecting only a part of the waste, and since the deviation of the waste occurs, continuous management is required, and a follow-up study on the environmental problems caused by the use of waste is required.
In this study, the flexural test for reinforced high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composites (R/HPFRCC) members has been conducted in order to investigate the flexural behavior including the effect of an ordinary tensile reinforcing bar. Through the test, it was observed that the flexural strength increased due to the stable tensile stress transfer of HPFRCC, even up to the ultimate state. In addition, no localized crack appeared until the yielding of the reinforcement. From the layered section analysis of the tested members, it was found that the analysis with the tensile model obtained from the tension stiffening test showed better agreement with the flexural test results, whereas the analysis with direct tension test results overestimated the flexural capacity. Through the experimental and analytical studies, two flexural failure modes have been defined in this paper; concrete crushing at the top compression layer or tensile failure at the bottom tensile layer of the beam section. Based on these two flexural failure modes, a simple formula that estimates the ultimate flexural strength of the member has been proposed in this paper. The proposed equations can be useful in a design and an analysis of R/HPFRCC members.

In locations where the cost of concrete is relatively high or in situations where the weight of concrete members has to be kept to a minimum, it may be more economical to use hollow reinforced concrete vertic al members. Hollow reinforced concrete colun-ms with a low axial load, a moderate longitudinal steel percentage and a reasonably thick wall were found to perform in a ductile manner at the flexural strength, similar to solid columns. Hollow reinforced concrete columns with a high axial load, a high longitudinal steel percentage, and a thin wall were found, however, to behave in a brittle manner at the flexural strength, since the neutral axis is forced to occur away from the inside face of the tube towards the section centroid and, as a result, crushing of concrete occurs near the unconfined inside face of the section. If, however, a steel tube is placed near the inside face of a circular hollow column, the column can be expected not to fail in a brittle manner through the disintegration of the concrete in the compression zone. A design recommendation and example through the moment-curvature analysis program for curvature ductility are herein presented. A theoretical moment-curvature analysis for reinforced concrete columns, indicating the available flexural strength and ductility, can be conducted, providing that the stress-strain relation for the concrete and steel are known. In this paper, a unified stress-stain model for confined concrete by Mander is developed foi members with circular sections.
In this study, the flexural characteristics of reinforced polymer concrete T-beams strengthened with GFRP, typically used for bridges and parking structures, are investigated. A method to determine the flexural failure mode of reinforced polymer concrete T-beams comprised of compression failure (CF), tension failure (TF), and fiber sheet failure (FF) for different levels of GFRP strengthening is proposed. Moreover, the present study provides a formula to calculate the design flexural strength for each failure mode. In reinforced polymer concrete T-beams strengthened with GFRP, an ideal failure mode can be achieved when the failure occurs in the following order: 1) yield of steel reinforcement, 2) failure of GFRP, and 3) compression failure of concrete. In the case of FF mode, due to GFRP failure before the polymer concrete crushing in compression region, a concept of equivalent rectangular block based on the ultimate limit state of concrete should not be used. Thus, this study suggests an idealized stress-strain curve for polymer concrete and finds parameters for stress block, ${\alpha}$ and ${\beta}$ based on the strain distribution in polymer concrete. Furthermore, the present study suggests an aspect ratio of 2.5 by examining the compressive stress distribution and design flexural strength characteristics for different aspect ratio of T-beams. This study also provides a design flexural strength formula, and validates its acceptability based on experiment and theoretical analysis.
Basic properties of artificial lightweight aggregate by using waste dusts and strength properties of LWA concrete were studied. Bulk specific gravity and water absorption of artificial lightweight aggregates varied from 1.4 to 1.7 and 13 to 16%, respectively. Crushing ratio of artificial lightweight aggregate was above 10% higher than that of crushed stone or gravel. As a result of TCLP leaching test, the leaching amount of tested heavy metal element was below the leaching standard of hazardous material. Slump, compressive strength and stress-strain properties of LWA concrete made of artificial lightweight aggregate were tested. Concrete samples derived from LWA substitution ratio of 30 vol% and W/C ratio of 45 wt% showed the best properties overall. Thermal insulation and sound insulation characteristics of light weight concrete panel with the optimum concrete proportion were tested. Average overall heat transmission of 3.293W/㎡$^{\circ}C$ was observed. It was higher by about 15% than those of normal concrete made by crushed stone. Sound transmission loss of 50.9 ㏈ in frequency of 500 ㎐ was observed. It was higher by about 13% than standard transmission loss.

To make recycling aggregate, quantity of fine particles increase due to multi-crushing. Though this particles were mixed with recycling aggregate, those have to be disparted from aggregate in the high quality recycling aggregate, because of the cause of low quality. Considering reactivity, fine particles is better than coarse one. Therefore, it needs to develop suitable usage. We try to make cement extruding material by using the fine particles from concrete recycling, as a silicious replacement. Test results are as follows ; 1) Waste concrete powder has major ingredients such as $SiO_2$ and CaO, its density is $2.45g/cm^3$ being similar to silica powder, its diameter is range 13 to $141{\mu}m$. 2) Considering to strength properties according to particle size, specimen was made using small particles is higher strength than large one. 3) Despite of exception in the autoclaved curing, when the replacement of waste fine particle increase, strength of extruding panel shows almost same level.
