  • Recently market potentials of Asian cruise service have driven big western incumbents to make an strategic entry into Asian cruise market. However Korean cruise industry has been on the initiating stage focused on coastal cruise service. Under the circumstances, Korean firms which have intention to provide cruise service ought not to depend mainly on government's institutional supports such as expansion of social infrastructure and consolidation of related law, but to explore and utilize service-oriented factors for customer satisfaction as fundamentals for competitive strategies with some considerations. In this study, we expanded the perceived value literature by demonstrating the role of selected affective factors such as novelty and hedonics on value in the context of cruise service experiences. We also examined the role of customer satisfaction in the affect-value relationship. According to the results, it is analyzed that such determinants of perceived value in cruise-ferry service like novelty and hedonics have some positive influences on customer satisfaction of cruise service. In particular, hedonics is strongly linked to cruise vacationers' value perceptions and repurchase intentions. Overall satisfaction as a mediator accounted for the relationship between affective antecedents and perceived value. The managerial findings of this research are also briefly discussed.

  • In order to suggest ways to enhance service competitiveness in cruise and destination, this study developed a measure of cruise tour service and analyzed the impact and relative importance on customer satisfaction. Specifically, for the service quality analysis, based on the SERVPERF model, the specialty of the industry was reflected through the arguments of tourism and transport logistics, and the three factors of cruise service quality and destination service quality were derived and utilized as measurement tools. As an analysis method, factor and reliability analysis were conducted using data collected via a survey. Next, correlation analysis was conducted to analyze the relationship between variables and regression analysis was performed to check the impact of cruise tour service quality on customer satisfaction. The study found that both cruise service attributes and destination service attributes had a positive effect on customer satisfaction and that the relative importance of service attributes was identified. Accordingly, it was found that the service quality should be formed by reflecting arguments in the tourism and transport logistics sectors and that the service should be further improved and developed according to the importance of the service attributes so as to enhance cruise tour products.

  • This research studies the adequate size standard of Seogwipo cruise terminal CIQ facility that is scheduled to be built around Gangjeong harbor area in Seogwipo-city. In order to respond to the highly increasing number of passenger cruise ships compared to Seogwipo cruise terminal design in 2010, the adequate size standard of Seogwipo cruise terminal CIQ facility was examined for passenger service level grade. Based on size computation elements such as the number of passengers of cruise ships with the largest size of port entry, ship landing rate, passenger processing ratio, and surge factor, the CIQ facility size for each service level grade was reviewed. As a result, the area of 2,971m2 (A grade), 2,409 m2 (B grade), and 2,088 m2 (C grade) were computed. This showed that the area of B grade was about 82% and C grade 70% compared to the area of A grade. The CIQ facility size computed for each service level grade in this research was analyzed that its area needed to be increased by 322% at least and 458% at most, compared to the CIQ facility area of 649m2 of the existing design (2010). In order to respond to the increasing number of cruise passengers, provide high-level passenger service, and improve the international image of Jeju, Seogwipo cruise terminal should secure the size that is equal to or higher than the B grade of service level.

  • This study is to plan the interior spaces of cruise ships for domestic services. In order to give directions for planning of interior spaces, a survey was done through questionnaire by Koreans who have experience of travelling on cruise ships. Based on the survey results and other important situations around domestic cruising industry we set up the critical conditions for the interior space design for domestic service cruise ships. And then the data on the cruise ships which have similar conditions with the domestic service cruise ships are analysed. Types and sizes of interior spaces and horizontal and vertical composition of private and public spaces are main concerns in this study.

  • The interest on cruise service has been increased due to the economic development and income growth all over the world during last several decades. However, cruise industry in Korea is located in the initiating stage and the service is just focused on costal cruise service. This study investigates relationship between influencing factors of the selection attributes of cruise service on tourism satisfaction and behavioral intention. Additionally, the study aims to provide information to establish customer-oriented marketing strategies for cruise tour service. Literature review is conducted to find out the factors in order to meet the future users preference and expectations. The data was collected on-board customers of "One Night Cruise" on Panstar Line. The result of the study shows that a certain number of factors are statistically significant on the cruise tour intention of potential customers. It shows that there is significant difference related to the using purpose and the usage attitude. Managers in the cruise company are able to utilize the practical implications of the present study when the cruise service launches in Korea. This study exists limitations that samples are not sufficient and the research can not be generalized due to the inadequate samples of target company.

  • From the day of luxurious inland river cruise ship started in Chongqing, China, the controversy is continuous; some people think those luxurious cruise ships on inland river might reduce the experience to enjoy the scenery of the Three Gorges, while some people think, which could improve the experience. In the study, the service facilities provided by luxurious inland river cruise ship will be evaluated by Pre-Post comparison based on IPA methods. After a review of the service facilities provided by luxurious inland river cruise ship running on Three Gorges areas. The tourists who would take the trip were asked to fill an questionnaire to examine the desired service facilities performance, which represents the highest level of the service facilities of the cruise ship that is expected by customers. After the trip, they were asked again to fill another questionnaire to examine the importance of service facilities and the performance of service. Pre-Post comparison would be examined to tell whether there is any change between pre and post experience. IPA would be used to evaluate the service facilities provided by inland river cruise ship. At last, some strategic suggestions to the development of inland river cruise ship are made.

  • The study investigated how an adaptive cruise control system induced behavioral adaptation in drivers using a full-scale driving simulator. Forty drivers with different driving styles participated in the study to compare headway-time, vehicle lateral position variation, and head and eye movement when driving with and without the adaptive cruise control system. Results showed that system induced positive behavioral adaptation by drawing consistency in driving speed and headway-time regardless of the driving styles. However, the results also showed that the drivers' reliance on the system induced negative adaptation including reduced lane keeping ability and reduced attention during driving. As a strategy to prevent negative adaptation, the study proposed information service to drivers with the adaptive cruise control system status and driving environment, and investigated effectiveness of the service. Twelve drivers participated in the experiment to compare headway-time, vehicle lateral position variation and subjective ratings when driving with and without the information service. Results showed that the information service assisted the drivers to maintain safer and more comfortable headway-time without impairing drivers' steering ability.

  • Although Jeju is the best cruise Secondary port in Northeast Asia, currently there are no dedicated cruise terminals. The port international passenger terminal opened in 2015 has a ferry terminal for offshore passengers and a cruise passenger function. Jeju Island is therefore constructing a cruise only terminal with the aim of opening in 2018 to meet the growing passenger demand at the Seoguipo civilian and public ports along with construction of a naval base at Gangjeong Port in Seogwipo City. It also plans to build cruise docks and cruise terminals in the Jeju New Port according to the Jeju port construction basic plan. However, during the construction and planning process of cruise terminals in Jeju, the adequacy of the terminal size is being debated and the immigration facilities are being operated. Therefore, the study analyzed the size of terminals and operation of immigration facilities appropriate for cruise passenger demand by investigating the status of cruise related facilities and operation in Jeju area. Based on this, the Commission hopes to explore the rational direction of the cruise terminal plan to revive the cruise industry in Jeju and provide high quality service to cruise passengers.
