  • This study examined the effects of store density levels on consumers'crowding perception and the effects of perceived retail crowding on consumer emotions and in turn shopping behavior. In addition, the study investigated the effects of perceived price value and store type on the segmented dimensions of perceived retail crowding. Results of an experimental test with 3 density levels and 2 store types confirmed the effects of density on social crowding and spatial crowding. While social crowding positively affected arousal, spatial crowding negatively did pleasure which in turn affected approach-avoidance behavior. Though two store types showed the same pattern in such relationships, the effect of perceived price value on retail crowding was different by store type.

  • The main concept of social carrying capacity is based on the principle that 'there are limits to the number of users a given recreation site can accommodate in order to provide quality of recreation experience'. The quality of the experience is revealed as user's satisfaction and perceived crowding. In this respect, studies of social carrying capacity have been frequently conducted by measuring perceived crowding and satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to identify the variables affecting perceived crowding, and causality bet-ween satisfaction and perceived crowding. Four hundred seventy six visitors were selected at Naejangsan National park on peak day of autumn excursion through on-site survey. The collected data were applied by factor analysis for categorizing the research variables, and multiple regression for finding the causality among variables. The study results are follows. The expectation of crowding, as a normative variable for perceived crowding, are categorized by three factors; circulation, user facility, and landscape. The circulation factor is the most powerful affecting perceived crowding among three factor. The landscape factor, however, do not have statistical significance on perceived crowding. The causality between satisfaction and perceived crowding is found. Although this relation is significant in statistics, magnitude of the coefficient is very small. It might be interpreted that satisfaction cannot be predicted simply from a user's perception of crowding, but a multi-dimensional concept such as adaptation and coping behavior.

  • This study examined: 1) the effect of store density on perceived crowding 2) the difference of perceived price benefit of sale by store density 3) the effect of perceived price benefit and store density on perceived crowding and 4) the effect of perceived crowding and price benefit on shopping behaviors. Store density and perceived crowding were categorized into social and spatial dimensions. Data were collected with 6 (high, medium, and low social and spatial densities) * 2 (sale and no-sale) between-subjects experimental designs. A total of 395 responses were analyzed. The results revealed that social density affected social crowding, but spatial density had no effect on perceived crowding. Price benefit of sale was not different by store density. The sale itself did not affect perceived crowding. Under the social density situation, perceived price benefit reduced spatial crowding and social crowding showed a positive effect on purchase behavior while spatial crowding had a negative effect. However, the most important effect on purchase behavior was price benefit. The study implies that social density (not spatial density) is important for consumer behavior and retail strategies.

  • The primary concerns of recreation plan are to provide visitors with quality of recreational experience and to protect of recreation resources. The quality of recreational experience is often defined in terms of social carrying capacity. The carrying capacity is revealed as perceived crowding. In this respects, measuring perceived crowding is useful tool of social carrying capacity determination. This study is to test the structural equation model that includes variables affecting perceived crowding. Through an on-site questionnaire survey, 467 visitors on Naejangsan national park were collected. The results of the study are follows. The encounter level on facility area is higher evaluated as crowding factor than other area in the park. It can be concluded that visitor perceived crowding when facility area situates high density use level rather than other areas expose high density use level. In the path analysis, the input variables(attitude, experience, encounter level) on the structural equation model affect significantly on perceived crowding. Especially, the attitude on the park management polocy is the most affecting factor on perceived crowding.

  • The purpose of the study was to examine how shoppers perceive and are influenced by crowding in apparel retail environment. Because shopping occurs in a spatially defined environment within a relatively short time, both crowding and the consequences of experiencing it are very important to retailers and researchers. The study explores the consequences of retail crowding in terms of shoppers' perception of store image, shopping enjoyment, and repurchase intention across two retail types, department stores and wholesale markets. The result showed that if shoppers perceived lower level of crowding, they perceived more positive store image, and spent more time in department stores. However, interestingly, retail crowding didn't influence store image of wholesale markets. Rather, if shoppers perceived higher level of crowding in wholesale markets, they had higher level of shopping enjoyment and repurchase intention. This can be interpreted as shoppers consider the crowding of retail environment as a token of attractive shopping places in terms of better deals and good quality in case of wholesale markets.

  • This study was conducted to identify the characteristics of social carrying capacity at mega-events, especially the 2000 Kwangju Biennale in Korea. In particular, this paper has proposed some management policies for mega events taking into account the relations between social carrying capacity, satisfaction and crowding. The research method was to look into the general characteristics and distributive forms of the location, and then to confirm the possibility of sampling the factors involved in satisfaction degree; last, A factor analysis for causal analysis of perceived crowding was performed. The study needed correlation analysis in order to compare expected crowding and perceived crowding, and performed regression to examine the causality of perceived crowding and satisfaction. The research results were as follows: the correlation of expected crowding, perceived crowding, and the total satisfaction was very low or meaningless. The relation between satisfaction and elements for factor analysis such as convenient facilities and value experience showed partial meaningfulness. The factors of convenient facilities, entrance fee, parking lot use, toilet convenience, and exhibit room use had meaningful results; on the other hand, the factors of value experience showed a meaningful result in the guide service of an event place. In conclusion when those holding an event make a basic project, they should consider management measures for convenience of facilities, proper education for guide service, and systematic guidance. Also, as a method for perceived crowding lower than expected crowding, the study has proposed that it is possible to lower expected crowding by providing appropriate information on the number of tourists expected on the weekends and weekdays. Future research should control variables such as personal characteristics, seasons proper for vacation and holidays, and carefully consider their investigation and design. Moreover, it is necessary to study variables involved in expected crowding of more various space-intensive sightseeing places (mesa-events).

  • Purpose: In the post-COVID-19, many consumers still feel uncomfortable with crowding in closed spaces. This study investigates how non-crowding affects consumer satisfaction and restaurant visit intention. Research design, data, and methodology: The data were collected from 350 people aged 20 and above. A total of 347 respondents, excluding 3 unfaithful respondents, were analyzed using Smart PLS 4.0 program. Result: Both spatial and human crowding have significant effects on satisfaction. On the other hand, neither spatial nor human crowding directly affected dine-out intention significantly. In addition, spatial crowding was found to have a direct and significant effect on in-store dining intention, but human crowding did not have a direct and significant effect on in-store dining intention. It was found that satisfaction had a significant effect on both dine-out intention and in-store dining intension. Conclusions: This study has expanded the range of consumer behavioral intentions by applying a non-crowded environment (S) to the SOR theory. Also, Consumer behavioral intention was expanded by dividing visit intention into a dine-out and in-store dining intention. Therefore, we propose measures to minimize human crowding by introducing a system such as adjustment of store operating hours, reservation system, store opening time alarm system, and reduction of cooking time.

  • DC and AC current crowding effects for microwave and high speed bipolar transistors are investigated in detail using a new and accurate measurement technique based on Z-parameter equationa. Using the new measurement technique dc and ac current crowding effects have been explained clearly in bipolar junction transistors. To model ac crowding effects a capacitive element defined as base capacitance (C$_b$), called ac crowding capacitance is added to base resistance in parallel thereby treating the base resistance(R$_b$) as base impedance Z$_b$. It is shown that base resistance decreases with increasing collector current due to dc current crowding and approaches to a certain limited value at high collector current due to current crowding and approaches to a certain limited value at high collector currents regardless of the emitter size. It is also observed that due to ac current crowding base capacitance increases with increasing collector current. To quantigy the ac crowding effects for SPICE circuit simulation the base capacitance(C$_b$) including the base depletion and diffusion components has been modeled with an analytical expression form.

  • It has been generally believed that the impaction or eruption of mandibular third molars has significant correlations with the growth of the mandible, size of mandibular arch and size of teeth. The purpose of this study was to examine if there is any correlation between the status of eruption of mandibular third molars and the amount of mandibular crowding. The effect of missing of third moalrs to mandibular crowding was studied as well. 140 adult students of Yonsei University were selected and divided into three groups according to the status of mandibular third molars, Group 1) congenital missing group, Group 2) eruption group, and Group 3) impaction group. The tooth size, dimensions of the mandibular dental arch, and the amount of crowding were measured and compared. Results were as follows ; 1. There was no statistically significant difference in tooth size between the missing group and the eruption group(p<0.05). Impaction group showed larger total tooth material, inci- sal tooth material, and individual tooth size except central incisors compared to missing group (p<0.05). Impaction group showed larger total tooth material, incisal tooth material compared to eruption group as well(p<0.05). When individual tooth size was compared, impaction group had larger central incisors, canines, and second premolars than eruption group(p<0.05). 2. Missing group showed larger intermolar width than impaction group and it was stati- stically significant(p<0.05). 3. When compared the amount of total crowding, impaction group showed the largest am- ount of crowding, then eruption group, and missing group showed the least amount of crowding respectively(p<0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between missing stoup and eruption group in the amount of incisal crowding(p<0.05). Impaction group show- ed the largest amount of incisal crowding among all three groups(p<0.05).

  • The aim of this study was to identify relationships among the physical environments, perceived crowding of food courts, the influences of the perceived crowding on customers' emotion and behavior intentions to determine more desirable services and physical environments for the customers in order for the food courts to be more competitiveness. This study used a total 335 questionnaires out of 400 ones for statistical analyses. For the analyses in this study, the SPSS program was used to analyze the Cronbach $\alpha$ and factor analysis. In addition structural equation modeling analysis was used to analyze correlations and grade of effectiveness of variables proposed in the research hypothesis utilizing Window AMOS 5.0. This study found that design and people were affected by the perceived crowding among 3 physical factors, and the people were most effect relatively affected by perceived crowding. Also, the perceived crowding had an effect on positive and negative emotion, and then both of positive and negative emotion were affected to the customers' behavior intentions. As a result, this study demonstrates that as a customers' perceived crowding in a food court increases, the centralization of customers causes a further increase in the perceived crowding in a food court. Therefore this work provides an opportunity for managers in the foodservice industry. To accomplish this, appropriate crowding control will be necessary, and they should make customers feel less crowded, which in turn, will make customers make a positive emotion towards food courts. Based on the results of, if the appropriate measures are taken to control crowds, customers will have propose positive behavior intentions such as, an intention to revisit, staying for more time, and positive recommendation.
