초임계 메탄올에서 가교폴리프로필렌과 가교폴리에틸렌의 재활용성 비교 (Recycling of Crosslinked Polypropylene and Crosslinked Polyethylene in Supercritical Methanol)

  • 초임계 메탄올에서 가교폴리프로필렌의 탈가교 반응에 대해 연구하고 이를 가교폴리에틸렌의 탈가교 반응과 비교하였다. 회분식 반응기를 이용하여 반응 온도와 초기 겔 함량이 탈가교 반응 속도에 미치는 영향을 알아보았고, 정량적 분석을 위해 반응 전후의 겔 함량을 측정하였다. 반응 온도가 증가할수록, 초기 겔 함량이 증가할수록 탈가교 반응속도가 증가하였고, 반응 속도는 겔 함량에 선형적으로 의존하였다. 가교폴리프로필렌의 탈가교 반응이 가교폴리에틸렌보다 빠르게 일어나는 것을 확인하였고, 반응속도상수를 계산하여 이를 정량적으로 확인하였다. 이를 통해 재활용 측면에서는 가교폴리프로필렌이 가교폴리에틸렌보다 우수한 것을 알 수 있다.

  • Polypropylene glycol (M.W. 4000) was crosslinked and chain-extended by using triisocyanate and diisocyanate to synthesize rubbery and water swellable hydrogels. Model drugs, i.e., sodium salicylate and indomethacin were incorporated in the polymer matrices by swelling loading. The drug release rates of drugs could be regulated by varying the degrees of crosslinking and chain-extension. Whereas, no correlation was observed between the drug release profiles and the swelling behaviours of the matrices. The release of drugs from the matrices was considered to be governed by the mobility and mesh size of the polymer chains in the matrices.

  • The melt grafting of unsaturated silanes onto polypropylene (PP) in a twin-screw extruder and crosslinking in hot water were studied to enhance impact strength of polypropylene. The influence of grafting formulations on the melt flow rates of grafted PP and the gel percentages of crosslinked PP was investigated. 3-methacryloylpropyltrimethoxysilane (VMMS) unsaturated silane monomer was used. Benzoyl peroxide, (BPO) and Dicumyl peroxide (DCP) were used as an initiator. When benzoyl peroxide (BPO) was used as an initiator, higher gel percentage and impact strength than those of DCP has been observed. The maximum impact strength was obtained with 0.7 phr of BPO and 2phr of VMMS. The value is 8.7 kgf-cm/cm and it is on a parity with the value of with 20 phr of EOR mixed to PP.

  • Polyethylene glycol, polypropylene glycol and block copolymer of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol were crosslinked by triisocyanate to form water swellable, rubbery polymer. The equilibrium swelling of the hydrogels ranged from 3% to 60% according to the hydrophobic-hydrophilic properties of the prepolymers. Model drugs, sodium salicylate and prednisolone were incorporated in the polymer matrices by swelling loading. Physical properties of the drugs affected the drug release mechanisms due to the change in the swelling behaviors of the polymeric devices. Zero order release was observed in the case of relatively hydrophobic polymer matrices.

  • 단일 중합체 폴리프로필렌(PP) 수지가 가지는 분자량 특성과 유변 특성이, 회분식 가교 발포 공정을 통해 생산된 발포체 구조 변화에 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 또한, 전자선 조사 가교가 PP 발포체에 미치는 영향도 연구하였다. 분자량 증가에 따른 저장 모듈러스(G'), 손실 모듈러스(G"), 제로 전단 점도($\eta_O$) 및 완화시간($\lambda$) 등의 유변 물성 값은 증가하였고, 이러한 유변 물성의 증가는 발포체 구조의 안정성에 직접적인 영향을 미쳤다. 전자선 조사량에 따른 PP의 겔분율은 3.2 Mrad의 전자선 조사량에서 크게 증가하며, 발포체의 안정성을 크게 향상시켰고, 그 이상의 전자선 조사량에서는 겔분율은 다시 감소하였고, 발포체 구조 또한 불안정해졌다.정해졌다.

  • 폴리프로필렌 (PP)의 전자선 가교 발포 공정에 있어서 전자선 조사량과 발포재료의 분자량 및 다양한 발포 공정이 발포체의 구조에 미치는 영향에 관해 연구하였다. 가교된 PP의 겔분율은 3.2 Mrad의 전자선 조사량에서 48%로 가장 높게 나타났고 발포체의 셀 균일성과 열 안정성에 큰 영향을 나타내었다. 3.2 Mrad 이상의 전자선 조사량에서 겔분율이 48%에서 더 이상 증가하지 않았으며, 발포체 구조 향상에도 더 이상 영향을 미치지 못하였다. 분자량이 증가할수록 높은 전단 점도와 겔분율을 나타내며 보다 균일하고 미세한 셀 구조를 형성하고, 열안정성이 높은 발포체를 형성하였다.

  • 소수성 폴리프로필렌 섬유의 표면을 상압 플라즈마 공정을 이용하여 표면처리하였다. 친수성으로 개질된 섬유를 수용성 폴리비닐프롤리돈 (poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone, PVP) 코팅액에 딥코팅하여 PVP 막을 형성하였다. 섬유 표면에 코팅된 PVP 막은 15 kGy 선량의 전자 빔 조사를 통해 가교되어, 폴리프로필렌 섬유의 표면이 PVP 하이드로젤로 균일하게 코팅된 것을 확인하였다. PVP 하이드로젤 코팅막의 두께는 코팅액의 농도를 조절하여 제어할 수 있었다. 단계적인 표면처리, PVP 코팅, 그리고 하이드로젤 막의 형성에 따른 특성은 접촉각, 전자현미경, 광학현미경 등을 통해 분석되었다.

  • A comprehensive survey of the available literature showed that in the last few decades, there has been a growing interest in the use of thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs). TPVs are the second largest group of soft thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) after styrene-based block copolymers, and offer a wide range of potential and proven applications, including in mechanical rubber goods, under-the-hood applications in the automotive field, industrial hose applications, electrical applications, consumer goods, and soft touch applications. Over the last two decades, TPVs have shown a strong and steady market growth (~12% per year). Commercialized TPVs are commonly based on blends of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber and polypropylene (PP), and to a lesser extent on combinations of butyl or nitrile rubber with PP. EPDM/PP TPVs are characterized by finely dispersed crosslinked EPDM rubber particles (particles size varying between 0.5 and $2.0{\mu}m$) distributed in a continuous thermoplastic PP matrix. If the rubber particles of such a blend are small enough and if they are vulcanized well enough, then the properties of the blend are generally improved. This review article introduces various topics and aspects relevant to EPDM/PP TPVs. The development of TPVs, the use of various types of crosslinking systems and co-agents as crosslinking agents for PP/EPDM blends, the morphology and rheology of TPVs, and their typical end-use applications are also reviewed.

  • Biodegredable and injectable nanocomposites based on polypropylene fumarate (PPF) as unsaturated polyester were prepared. The investigated polyester was crosslinked with three different monomers namely N-vinyl pyrrolidone (NVP), methyl methacrylate (MMA) and a mixture of NVP and MMA (1:1 weight ratio) and was filled with 45 wt% of hydroxyapatite (HA) incorporated with different concentrations of chemically treated natural bone powder (NBP) (5, 10 and 15 wt%) in order to be used in treatment of orthopedics bone diseases and fractures. The nanocomposites immersed in the simulated body fluid (SBF) for 30 days, after the period of immersion in-vitro bioactivity of the nanocomposites was studied through Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) in addition to dielectric measurements. The degradation time of immersed samples and the change in the pH of the SBF were studied during the period of immersion.

  • The morphology of the thermoplastic vulcanizates prepared from ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer, polypropylene and high density polyethylene(HDPE) or ethylene based ionomer were studied. Blends were prepared in a laboratory internal mixer where EPDM was cured in the presence of PP and HDPE or ionomer under shear with dicumyl peroxide(DCP). The effects of DCP concentration and rubber/plastics composition were studied. In the morphological analysis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), a small amount of EPDM acted as a compatibilizer to HDPE and PP. It was also revealed that the dynamic vulcanization process could reduce the domain size of the crosslinked EPDM phase. When ionomer was added to EPDM/PP blend, the thermoplastic vulcanizate showed typical ductile fracture topology and the trend was more clearly observed when DCP contents and ionomer contents are higher.
