Purpose: Several screening tools have been developed to identify sarcopenia in rural community-dwelling older adults. We aimed to compare the diagnostic accuracy of two such tools, namely the SARC-F and SARC-CalF assessments. Methods: This cross-sectional study on 388 community-dwelling older adults comprised 254 women and 134 men with a mean age of 77.8 ± 6.26 year in Korea. We assessed muscle mass, muscle strength, and physical performance using a bioimpedance analysis device, hydraulic hand dynamometer, and 4 m gait speed test, respectively. Three widely-used diagnostic criteria [the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS), European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People, and the International Working Group on Sarcopenia] were applied. Sensitivity and specificity analyses were performed on the SARC-CalF and SARC-F tests. We used receiver-operating characteristic curves and the area under the curves (AUCs) to compare the diagnostic accuracy of the assessments with regard to sarcopenia. Results: An analysis using four sets of diagnostic criteria showed that the prevalence of sarcopenia was 27.6% to 41.0%. Using the AWGS 2019 criteria as a reference standard, the SARC-CalF had a sensitivity of 83.02% and a specificity of 53.71% in the entire study population, whereas the SARC-F had a sensitivity of 79.87% and a specificity of 41.92%. The AUCs for the SARC-CalF and SARC-F tests were 0.725 (95% confidence interval 0.678-0.769) and 0.645 (95% confidence interval 0.595-0.693), respectively (p<001). In the analyses using the other three diagnostic criteria, similarity was also confirmed. Conclusion: SARC-CalF showed better sensitivity than did SARC-F when diagnosing sarcopenia in rural community-dwelling older adults. Further studies are needed to verify this finding in different populations.
Spaceborne radar interferometry has been widely used to estimate the topography and deformation of the Earth. It is difficult to obtain coherent interferometric SAR pairs especially over coastal areas mainly because of variation of surface conditions. We carried out the experiment using a cross-interferometric pair with a perpendicular baseline of about 1.4 km, a 30 minutes temporal separation and the height sensitivity of about 6 meters. The temporal decorrelation can be reduced by the cross interferometric technique with a 30 minutes temporal separation. Accurate coregistration was performed through resampling of ENVISAT ASAR data to equivalent pixel spacing to the ERS SAR data, because of the differences of the pulse repetition frequency and range sampling rate between the two sensors. Then we estimated range and azimuth offset to a sub-pixel accuracy using image intensity cross correlation. A larger window chip size than a general case was used because it was difficult to distinguish typical features. As range bin increased, the difference of Doppler centroid also increased. It resulted in lower coherence in far range than in near range. Coherences over wetland in near and far range were about 0.8 and 0.5, respectively. The coherence was improved by applying azimuth and range common band filtering, but coherence gap still existed. ERS-ENVISAT cross-interferogram usually lost information in urban area. However, high coherence over a city in this pair was shown, because of less man-made structures than other major cities. Accuracy of the DEM constructed by the ERS-ENVISAT 30-minute pair in a coastal area is to be evaluated.
The two-dimensional modeling of the non-stationary thermal state and voltage responsivity of the sensitive elements usually used in solid-state pyroelectric focal plane arrays are presented. Temperature distributions under periodical thermal excitation and the response of the thermal imaging device, which is composed of the pyroelectric sensitive elements mounted on a single silicon substrate, are numerically calculated. The sensitive element consists of a covering metal layer, infrared polymer absorber, front metal contact, sensitive pyroelectric element, the interconnecting column and the bulk silicon readout. The results of the numerical modeling show that the thermal crosstalk between sensitive elements to be critical especially at low frequency (f < 10Hz) of periodically modulated light. It is also shown that the use of our models gives the possibility to improve the design, operating regimes and sensitivity of the device.

Molecularly imprinted polymer thin films were applied to develop a gas sensor based on the surface plasmon resonance phenomenon for small gaseous molecules such as toluene and xylene. The imprinted polymer films were synthesized via photo-polymerization method using various combination of templates, functional monomers and cross-linkers. The temperature of pre-polymerization solutions and the power of UV light were controlled for optimized performance of gas sensing. The morphology and porosity of the polymer films were controlled by varying the mixing ratios of the pre-polymerization solutions and confirmed by atomic force microscopy. By fitting the adsorption/desorption sensorgrams to conventional kinetic models, the effects of different templates and cross-linkers were interpreted in term of the structural differences of the polymer networks formed on the gold film. The sensitivity and selectivity of sensors were estimated for toluene and xylene, and also for humidity and other gaseous molecules such as formaldehyde and ammonia.
This paper reviews the fast reactor physics and computational methods. The basic reactor physics specific to fast spectrum reactors are briefly reviewed, focused on fissile material breeding and actinide burning. Design implications and reactivity feedback characteristics are compared between breeder and burner reactors. Some discussions are given to the distinct nuclear characteristics of fast reactors that make the assumptions employed in traditional LWR analysis methods not applicable. Reactor physics analysis codes used for the modeling of fast reactor designs in the U.S. are reviewed. This review covers cross-section generation capabilities, whole-core deterministic (diffusion and transport) and Monte Carlo calculation tools, depletion and fuel cycle analysis codes, perturbation theory codes for reactivity coefficient calculation and cross section sensitivity analysis, and uncertainty analysis codes.
A fiber-optic interferometric sensor array capable of passive remote sensing is demonstrated with two sensors at the array head. The signal from a specific sensor could be separated in time domain. The measured sensitivity at signal frequencies of a few kHz and cross talk level between two sensors were about $40{\mu}rad\sqrt{Hz}$and below - 50 dB, respectively.tively.
IGRINS (Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrometer) is a cross-dispersed high resolution near-infrared spectrograph whose primary disperser is a silicon immersion grating (SIG) and cross-dispersers are two volume phase holographic gratings (VPHG). IGRINS covers the full ranges of H and K astronomical wavelength bands at a single exposure with the spectral resolution of 40,000. The overall layout of the IGRINS Cryostat is a $960{\times}600{\times}380$ cubic millimeter rectangular box and the whole optical train is sitting on an $880{\times}520{\times}50\;mm^3$ rectangular Optical Bench. The total volume of the instrument has been revolutionarily reduced and remained compact for the spectral coverage and sensitivity of a high resolution spectrograph in infrared. We, in this presentation, introduce the design models, the structural and thermal analysis results of the mechanics and cryogenics of IGRINS.
Two impedance imaging systems of multi-frequency electrical impedance tomography (MFEIT) and magnetic resonance electrical impedance tomography (MREIT) are described. MFEIT utilizes boundary measurements of current-voltage data at multiple frequencies to reconstruct cross-sectional images of a complex conductivity distribution (${\sigma}+i{\omega}{\varepsilon}$) inside the human body. The inverse problem in MFEIT is ill-posed due to the nonlinearity and low sensitivity between the boundary measurement and the complex conductivity. In MFEIT, we therefore focus on time- and frequency-difference imaging with a low spatial resolution and high temporal resolution. Multi-frequency time- and frequency-difference images in the frequency range of 10 Hz to 500 kHz are presented. In MREIT, we use an MRI scanner to measure an internal distribution of induced magnetic flux density subject to an injection current. This internal information enables us to reconstruct cross-sectional images of an internal conductivity distribution with a high spatial resolution. Conductivity image of a postmortem canine brain is presented and it shows a clear contrast between gray and white matters. Clinical applications for imaging the brain, breast, thorax, abdomen, and others are briefly discussed.
In this paper, we propose a modified CP-AFC(Cross-Product Automatic Frequency Control) algorithm to enhance coherent signal detection for WCDMA reverse link receiver. We introduce a moving average filter at the FDD(Frequency Difference Detector) input to increase the number of cross-products, since pilot symbol in WCDMA is not transmitted continuously. We also add normalization algorithm to overcome the conventional CP-FDD's sensitivity to the variance of input signal amplitude and to increase the linear range of S- curve. For rapid frequency acquisition and tracking, we adopt a multi-stage tracking mode. We applied the proposed algorithm in the implementation of WCDMA base station modem successfully.

Vibrational characteristics of the vehicle structure are mainly influenced by the shape of the pillar cross section. In this paper a vehicle structural optimization technique has been developed to investigate a lightweight vehicle structure subject to constraints on natural frequencies in a simple beam-and-shell model. In this technique, the optimization procedures involve two stages. In the first stage, the section procedures involve tow stages. In the first stage, the section properties of beam elements of the vehicle structure has been optimized to have minimum weight while satisfying the constraints of natural frequencies. And, in the second stage, the shape of the cross section of the elements of the structure has been determined.
