  • As Synchronous Reluctance Motor gives reluctance torque, An inductance is an important parameter that is proportional to torque. To achieve the high performance in sensorless control, it is necessary to consider exact inductance values because the inductance is not a constant parameter anymore. Therefore, this paper shows the inductance measurement using DC current decay test, AC standstill test, and AC standstill test considering Cross Magnetization. This inductance has also been compared with the result that is analyzed by FEM.

  • Bi-2223 superconducting wires were fabricated by stacking, drawing process with different precursor powders and different heat-treatment histories. The precursor powders were 2 kinds of Pb content. And a part of the tapes were experienced pre-annealing process which caused tetragonal structure of Bi-2212 phase to orthorhombic structure of it was during drawing process. We confirmed the transformation of Bi-2212 phase from tetragonal structure to orthorhombic structure and reduction of second phases. AC magnetization analysis were performed in order to investigate the fraction of Bi-2223 phase in Bi-2223/Ag HTS tape. The cross sections of 55 filaments and 61 filaments were investigated after rolled in order to understand deformation mechanism of superconducting cores. We could achieve best Ic of 70 A class at the Bi-2223/Ag tape using low Pb content of precursor powder and experienced pre-annealing process. AC magnetization analysis was useful to investigate the fraction of Bi-2223 phase in the Bi-2223/Ag tape.

  • Although MR imaging is generally applicable to depict knee joint deterioration it, is sometimes occurred to mis-read and mis-diagnose the common knee joint diseases. In this study, we employed magnetization transfer ratio (MTR) method to improve the diagnosis of the various knee joint diseases. Spin-echo (SE) T2-weighted images (TR/TE 3,400-3,500/90-100 ms) were obtained in seven cases of knee joint deterioration, FSE T2-weighted images (TR/TE 4,500-5,000/100-108 ms) were obtained in seven cases of knee joint deterioration, gradient-echo (GRE) T2-weighted images (TR/TE 9/4.56/$50^{\circ}$ flip angle, NEX 1) were obtained in 3 cases of knee joint deterioration, In six cases of knee joint deterioration, fat suppression was performed using a T2-weighted short T1/tau inverse recovery (STIR) sequence (TR/TE =2,894-3,215 ms/70 ms, NEX 3, ETL 9). Calculation of MTR for individual pixels was performed on registration of unsaturated and saturated images. After processing to make MTR images, the images were displayed in gray color. For improving diagnosis, three-dimensional isotropic volume images, the MR tristimulus color mapping and the MTR map was employed. MTR images showed diagnostic images quality to assess the patients' pathologies. The intensity difference between MTR images and conventional MRI was seen on the color bar. The profile graph on MTR imaging effect showed a quantitative measure of the relative decrease in signal intensity due to the MT pulse. To diagnose the pathologies of the knee joint, the profile graph data was shown on the image as a small cross. The present study indicated that MTR images in the knee joint were feasible. Investigation of physical change on MTR imaging enables to provide us more insight in the physical and technical basis of MTR imaging. MTR images could be useful for rapid assessment of diseases that we examine unambiguous contrast in MT images of knee disorder patients.

  • In this study, an HP-mod. type(KHR-45A), which is used as a heater tube material in the pyrolysis process, was evaluated for its carburizing properties. It was confirmed from the microstructural observation of the tubes that the volume fraction of carbide increased and that the coarsening of Cr-carbide generated as a degree of carburization increased. The depth of the hardened layer, which is similar to the thickness of the carburized region of each specimen, due to carburization is confirmed by measurement of the micro-Vickers hardness of the cross section tube, which thickness is similar to that of the carburized region of each specimen. Two types of chromium carbides were identified from the EBSD (electron back-scattered diffraction) image and the EDS (energy-dispersive spectroscopy) analysis: Cr-rich $M_{23}C_6$ in the outer region and Cr-rich $M_7C_3$ in the inner region of tubes. The EDS analysis revealed a correlation between the ferromagnetic behavior of the tubes and the chromium depletion in the matrix. The chromium depletion in the austenite matrix is the main cause of the magnetization of the carburized tube. The method used currently for the measurement of the carburization of the tubes is confirmed; carburizing evaluation is useful for magnetic flux density measurement. The volume fraction of the carbide increased as the measuring point moved into the carburized side; this was determined from the calculation of the volume fraction in the cross-section image of the tubes. These results are similar to the trends of carburization measurement when those trends were evaluated by measurement of the magnetic flux density.

  • The switching frequency of the power electronic devices used in large synchronous motor drives is usually kept low (less than 1 kHz) to reduce the switching losses and to improve the converter power capability. However, this results in a couple of problems, e.g. an increase in the harmonic components of the stator current, and an undesired cross-coupling between the magnetization current component ($i_m$) and the torque component ($i_t$). In this paper, a novel complex matrix model of electrically excited synchronous motors (EESM) was established with a new control scheme for coping with the low switching frequency issues. First, a hybrid observer was proposed to identify the instantaneous fundamental component of the stator current, which results in an obvious reduction of both the total harmonic distortion (THD) and the low order harmonics. Then, a novel complex current controller was designed to realize the decoupling between $i_m$ and $i_t$. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of this novel control system for EESM drives.

  • We have fabricated successfully single-filament composite $MgB_2$/SUS tapes, as an ultrarobust conductor type. The fabrication of the $MgB_2$/SUS tapes was performed by power-in-tube (PIT) process such as swaging and cold rolling. The critical transition temperatures $T_{c}$~38.5 K and ~36 K were observed for the sintered and the nonsintered $MgB_2$/SUS tapes, respectively In addition, the isothermal magnetization M(H) of the sintered $MgB_2$/SUS tapes was measured at temperatures T (between 5 and 50 K) in fields up to 6 T, employing a PPMS-9 (Quantum Design). The persistent current density (J$T_{P}$) values were obtained from the M(H) data, using Bean model, fur the sintered $MgB_2$/SUS tapes. The estimated values were higher than ~ 6$\times$ $10^{5}$ $A/\textrm{cm}^2$ at T = 5 K, with H : 0 G. We also investigated the cross section of the sintered tapes, by using SEM and EDX. An evidence of weak reaction on boundary between $MgB_2$ and SUS tube is found in the SEM and EDX.X.X.X.

  • The conventional method to deal with current transformer (CT) Saturation is over dimensioning of the core so that CTs can carry up to 20 times the rated current without exceeding 10% ratio correction. However, this not only reduces the sensitivity of relays as some errors may still be present in the secondary current when a severe fault occurs, but also increases the CT size. This paper presents an algorithm for compensating the distorted secondary current of iron-cored CTs under CT saturation using the magnetization (flux-current : .lambda.-i) curve and its performance is examined for fault currents encountered on a typical 345[kV] Korean transmission system, under a variety of different system and fault conditions. In addition, the results of hardware implementation of the algorithm using a TMS320C10 digital signal processor are also presented. The proposed algorithm can improve the sensitivity of relays to low level internal faults, maximize the stability of relays for external faults, and reduce the required CT core cross-section significantly. • In this study, the photolithography process was chosen to reduce the aspect ratio of the cross-section of a high-temperature superconducting (HTS) tape by dividing the superconducting layer of the tape. Reducing the aspect ratio decreases the magnetization losses in the second-generation HTS tapes generated by AC magnetic fields. The HTS tape used in the experiment has a thin silver (Ag) layer of about 2 ㎛ on top of the REBCO superconducting layer and no additional stabilizer layer. A dry film resist (DFR) was laminated on top of the HTS tape by a lamination method for the segmentation. Exposure to a 395 nm UV lamp on a patterned mask cures the DFR. Dipping with a 1% Na2CO3 solution was followed to develop the uncured film side and to obtain the required pattern. The silver and superconducting layers of the REBCO films were cleaned with an acid solution after the etching. Finally, the segmented HTS tape was completed by stripping the DFR film with acetone.

  • The development of hybrid systems comprising nanoparticles and polymers is an opening pathway for engineering nanocomposites exhibiting outstanding mechanical, optical, electrical, and magnetic properties. Among inorganic counterpart, iron oxide nanoparticles (IONP) exhibit high magnetization, controllable surface chemistry, spintronic properties, and biological compatibility. These characteristics enable them as a platform for biomedical applications and building blocks for bottom-up approaches, such as the layer-by-layer (LbL). In this regard, the present study is addressed to investigate IONP synthesised through co-precipitation route (average diameter around 7 nm), with either positive or negative surface charges, LbL assembled with sodium sulfonated polystyrene (PSS) or polyaniline (PANI). The surface and internal morphologies, and electrochemical properties of these nanocomposites were probed with atomic force microscopy, UV-vis and Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, cross-sectional transmission electron microscopy, and electrochemical measurements. The nanocomposites display a globular morphology with IONP densely packed while surface dressed by polyelectrolytes. The investigation of the effect of thermal annealing (300 up to $600^{\circ}C$) on the oxidation process of IONP assembled with PSS was performed using Raman spectroscopy. Our findings showed that PSS protects IONP from oxidation/phase transformation to hematite up to $400^{\circ}C$. The electrochemical performance of nanocomposite comprising IONP and PANI were investigated in $0.5mol{\times}L^{-1}$ $Na_2SO_4$ electrolyte solution by cyclic voltammetry and chronopotentiometry. Our findings indicate this structure as promising candidate for potential application as electrodes for supercapacitors.

  • We prepared ultra thin film structure of Si(100)/ $SiO_2$(200 nm)/Ta(5 nm)/Ni$_{80}$Fe$_{20/(l~15 nm)}$Ta(5 nm) using an inductively coupled plasma(ICP) helicon sputter. Magnetic properties and cross-sectional microstructures were investigated with a superconduction quantum interference device(SQUID) and a transmission electron microscope(TEM), respectively. We report that NiFe films of sub-3 nm thickness show the B$_{bulk}$ = 0 and B$_{surf}$=-3 ${\times}$ 10$^{-7}$(J/$m^2$). Moreover, Curie temperature may be lowered by decreasing thickness. Coercivity become larger as temperature decreased with 0.5 nm - thick Ta/NiFe interface intermixing. Our result implies that effective magnetic properties of magnetoelastic anisotropy, saturation magnetization, and coercivity may change abruptly in nano-thick films. Thus we should consider those abrupt changes in designing nano-devices such as MRAM applications.
