열적으로 성층화된 횡단류에 분출된 제트의 난류확산 거동(I) (Turbulent Dispersion Behavior of a Jet Issued into Thermally Stratified Cross Flows(I))

  • Flow visualization study has been conducted to simulate the turbulent dispersion behavior of a crossflow jet physically under the conditions of various thermal stratification in a wind tunnel. A smoke jet with the constant ratio of the jet to freestream velocity is injected normally to the cross flow of the thermally stratified wind tunnel(TSWT) for flow visualization. The typical natures of the smoke dispersion under different thermal stratifications such as neutral, weakly stable, strongly stable, weakly unstable, strongly unstable and inversion layer are successfully reproduced in the TSWT. The Instantaneous velocity and temperature fluctuations are measured by using a cold and hot-wire combination probe. The time averaged dispersion behaviors, the centerline trajectories, the spreading angles and the virtual origins of the cross jet are deduced from the edge detected images with respect to the stability parameter. All the general characteristics of the turbulent dispersion behavior reveal that the definitely different dispersion mechanisms are inherent in both stable and unstable conditions. It is conjectured that the turbulent statistics obtained in the various stability conditions quantitatively demonstrate the vertical scalar flux plays a key role in the turbulent dispersion behavior.

Cross-Flow Filtration에 의한 항생물질 생산 균사체의 분리 (Separation of Antibiotics-Producing Mycelia by Cross-Flow Filteration)

  • 항생물질 발효액의 균사체 분리에 있어서 Modified regenerated cellulose 막을 이용한 Cross-flow filtration으로 높은 Flux를 얻을 수 있었다. 막분리시 가급적 높은 유속, 높은 온도, 특정 균사체농도(약 20% PMV)에서 높은 Flux를 보여주었으며 Fouling 정도는 균사체 농도가 높을수록 또한 유속이 낮을수록 심각한 것으로 나타났다. 발효액을 농축 분리할 때의 Flux profile은 1단계 Sublayer형성에 의한 급속감소, 2단계 평형, 3단계 Fouling에 의한 급속감소의 세 구간으로 나눌 수 있었으며 Diafiltration의 적용으로 3단계의 Flux 감소 현상을 현저히 완화시킬 수 있었다. 한편 Diafiltration에 의한 항생물질 회수시 초기부터Diafiltration하는 것보다는 특정 PMV까지 농축시킨 후 Diafiltration하는 경우에 작업시간과 여액의 Volume을 최소화 할 수 있었으며 본 실험에서는 98%의 회수율을 얻기 위해서 Di-afiltration을 시작하는 Optimum PMV는 20%였다.

  • 가로흐름에 같은 수심으로 그리고 직각으로 방류되는 ?흐름의 귀환현상이 차원해석과 수리실험을 통하여 해석된다. 운동량?의 경우 무차원귀환거리 $L/I_m$와 두께 $H/I_m$는 운동량특성길이와 방류구폭의 비 $I_m/W$, 부력?의 경우 무차원귀환거리 $L/I_b$는 부력특성길이와 운동량길특성의 비 $I_b/I_m$, 무차원온도분포 ${\Gamma}_m$은 무차원흐름방향거리 $x/I_b$의 영향을 받으며 이들은 모두 멱법칙으로 예측될 수 있다. 귀환의 발생여부는 속도비 R에 좌우되며 본 연구에서는 R>4.0때 귀환이 발생하지 않는 것으로 나타났다.

Efficiency of Marine Hydropower Farms Consisting of MultipleVertical Axis Cross-Flow Turbines

  • This study focuses on the Achard turbine, a vertical axis, cross-flow, marine current turbine module. Similar modules can be superposed to form towers. A marine or river hydropower farm consists of a cluster of barges, each gathering several parallel rows of towers, running in stabilized current. Two-dimensional numerical modelling is performed in a horizontal cross-section of all towers, using FLUENT and COMSOL Multiphysics. Numerical models validation with experimental results is performed through the velocity distribution, depicted by Acoustic Doppler Velocimetry, in the wake of the middle turbine within a farm model. As long as the numerical flow in the wake fits the experiments, the numerical results for the power coefficient (turbine efficiency) are trustworthy. The overall farm efficiency, with respect to the spatial arrangement of the towers, was depicted by 2D modelling of the unsteady flow inside the farm, using COMSOL Multiphysics. Rows of overlapping parallel towers ensure the increase of global efficiency of the farm.

Experimental and numerical study on generation and mitigation of vortex-induced vibration of open-cross-section composite beam

  • Open-cross-section composite beam (OCB) tends to suffer vortex-induced vibration (VIV) due to its bluff aerodynamic shape. A cable-stayed bridge equipped with typical OCB is taken as an example in this paper to conduct sectional model wind tunnel test. Vortex-induced vibration is observed and maximum vibration amplitudes are obtained. CFD approach is employed to calculate the flow field around original cross sections in service stage and construction stage, as well as sections added with three different countermeasures: splitters, slabs and wind fairings. Results show that flow separate on the upstream edge and cause vortex shedding on original section. Splitters can only smooth the flow field on the upper surface, while slabs cannot smooth flow field on the upper or lower surface too much. Thus, splitters or slabs cannot serve as valid aerodynamic means. Wind tunnel test results show that VIV can only be mitigated when wind fairings are mounted, by which the flow field above and below the bridge deck are accelerated simultaneously.

  • The aerodynamic performance of a cross-flow fan is strongly influenced by the various design factors of a rear-guider and a stabilizer. The design factors considered in this paper are a rear-guider clearance, a stabilizer clearance, and a stabilizer setup angle, respectively. Also, these factors are given to the various diameter ratio between a basic circle and a impeller. The static pressure and the flowrate of a cross-flow fan were measured with a fan-tester. It could be found that the useful design factors with a good aerodynamic performance exist in the certain assembly conditions of an indoor RAC. Therefore, it could be known that a new published patent determining the easy design of an indoor RAC can be applied in a variety of goods.

국립공원 지역에 있어서 토석류 재해의 특성 분석 (Characteristics Analysis of Debris Flow Disaster in Korean National Parks)

  • This study was carried out to analyze the occurrence characteristics and the influence of forest environment factors on the debris flow of 3 national parks in korea. The results obtained from this study were summarized as follows; The total number of debris flow occurrence was 125 areas. The average length of the debris flow scar was 144m, average width was 20m. And the average area and sediment were $2,854m^2$ and $3,959m^3$ respectively. The factors influencing the debris flow were highly occurred in Metamorphic rock, mixed forest type. And also, slope gradient was $30{\sim}35^{\circ}$, aspect was NE, altitude was over 1,000m, vertical and cross slope was concave (凹), soil depth was below 15cm, stream order was 0 order. The variables of cross slope (complex), deciduous tree, soil depth (over 46cm), cross slope (concave), mixed forest type and altitude (801~1200m) in correlation analysis were significant at 1 % level. The landslide of high mountain area highly tend to change the debris flow in stream bed of torrent. The debris flow in national parks mainly occurred in high mountain area with long ridge and steep slope.

다공관 소음기의 투과손실에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on the Transmission Loss of Perforated Tube Mufflers)

  • This paper is the experimental study to estimate the influence of various design parameters on the performance of mufflers with perforated tubes and through-flow partitions. Muffler types considered in the present work include through-flow chamber, through-flow chamber with partition, and cross-flow chamber. The influences of the design parameters on the performance of the mufflers can be outlined as follows. In the case of the through-f]ow type mufflers, increasing the tube thickness and the hole diameter of the perforated tubes does not change the maximum value of the transmission loss but decrease the cutoff frequency. In the case of the through-flow with partitions type mufflers, it is shown that combining a fe w short chambers and long chambers can modify the frequency locations of the resonance frequencies to optimize the performance of the mufflers. For the case of the cross-flow type mufflers, it is shown that the transmission loss of the mufflers is mainly affected by the lower porosity when the porosities are different in both sides of the plug. Overall, it is shown that performance of the through-flow type with partition type mufflers is excellent in the lower frequency region, where the cross-flow type mufflers have better performance in the higher frequency region.

  • Whole flow fields of a room air conditioner (RAC) have been visualized by a Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) technique to analyze the flow structure with various inlet and outlet angles, and to control an eccentric vortex which affects an efficiency and noise of the RAC. A test model with 5 stages of a cross flow fan has been manufactured and a transparent acryl has been installed at the side of the test model for the PIV experiment. The inlet and outlet flows and the flow inside the cross flow fan have been analyzed by varying the inlet grill angles and outlet blade angles. The movement of the eccentric vortex has been investigated experimentally by developing the measurement technique for the inner flow field of the cross flow fan. From the visualization of the inner flows, the origins of the noise inside the RAC and the condensation points around the outlet parts of the cold air have been observed and the solution of the problems can be proposed in this study.

Air Layer Effect on the Performance Improvement of a Cross-Flow Hydro Turbine

  • The purpose of this study is not only to investigate the effects of air layer in the turbine chamber on the performance and internal flow of the cross-flow turbine, but also to suggest a newly developed air supply method. Field test is performed in order to measure the output power of the turbine by a new air supply method. CFD analysis on the performance and internal flow of the turbine is conducted by an unsteady state calculation using a two-phase flow model in order to embody the air layer effect on the turbine performance effectively. The result shows that air layer effect on the performance of the turbine is considerable. The air layer located in the turbine runner passage plays the role of preventing a shock loss at the runner axis and suppressing a recirculation flow in the runner. The location of air suction hole on the chamber wall is very important factor for the performance improvement. Moreover, the ratio between air from suction pipe and water from turbine inlet is also significant factor of the turbine performance.
