This study was carried out to investigate the influence of the road structure and site conditions on side-ditch stability of forest road. For experimental purposes, the forest road in the Kwangrung Experimental Forest, Korea Forestry Research Institute, was chosen as a study site. A total of 556 plots wes set up as every longitudinal gradient changing points by belt-transect method. Data of 10 road structural characteristics and side-ditch stability were collected from each plot and analysed by Quantification II. The main factors in order of partial correlation coefficient were longitudinal gradient, road position, inclination of cut-slope, constituent material of cut-slopes, distance of surface flow, cross-sectional shape of road, pavement material, vegetation of cut-slopes and length of cut-slope. The erosion of side-ditch of forest road occurred in the following cases; more than 8% of the longitudinal gradient, road position of hill under side and foot hill, more than
As BTL(Build-Transfer-Lease) private investment business benchmarking PHI(Private Finance Initiative) of USA and Japan is introduces to Korea since 2005, as a part of supplying high leveled public service and early expanding required facilities for SOC, Value for Money on private investment business from treasury investment business at the beginning gets to be needed. Accordingly, this survey has been conducted in order to analyse BTL projects status, propriety of economic analysis method(VFM analysis, calculation of estimated business expenses, valuation of bidding price, etc.) by business advance phases from the viewpoint of person in charge, necessity of improvement and alternative plants. As the result of conducting cross tabulation analysis and correlation analysis by occupational group, BTL project advance phases and alternative plans for improvement, it is necessary ye prepare standardized service level against business expense and basis for calculating and evaluation operation expenses. Based on the necessity of quantitative analysis (LCC analysis) of VFM, standard for calculating management, maintenance and administration expenses is required. In addition, reliable economic valuation system considering domestic BTL environment should be setup, for business efficiency.
Objective: The objectives of this study were to compare identified informative regions through two genome-wide association study (GWAS) approaches and determine the accuracy and bias of the direct genomic value (DGV) for milk production traits in Korean Holstein cattle, using two genomic prediction approaches: single-step genomic best linear unbiased prediction (ss-GBLUP) and Bayesian Bayes-B. Methods: Records on production traits such as adjusted 305-day milk (MY305), fat (FY305), and protein (PY305) yields were collected from 265,271 first parity cows. After quality control, 50,765 single-nucleotide polymorphic genotypes were available for analysis. In GWAS for ss-GBLUP (ssGWAS) and Bayes-B (BayesGWAS), the proportion of genetic variance for each 1-Mb genomic window was calculated and used to identify informative genomic regions. Accuracy of the DGV was estimated by a five-fold cross-validation with random clustering. As a measure of accuracy for DGV, we also assessed the correlation between DGV and deregressed-estimated breeding value (DEBV). The bias of DGV for each method was obtained by determining regression coefficients. Results: A total of nine and five significant windows (1 Mb) were identified for MY305 using ssGWAS and BayesGWAS, respectively. Using ssGWAS and BayesGWAS, we also detected multiple significant regions for FY305 (12 and 7) and PY305 (14 and 2), respectively. Both single-step DGV and Bayes DGV also showed somewhat moderate accuracy ranges for MY305 (0.32 to 0.34), FY305 (0.37 to 0.39), and PY305 (0.35 to 0.36) traits, respectively. The mean biases of DGVs determined using the single-step and Bayesian methods were
A surface image velocimeter (SIV) measures the velocity of a particle group by calculating the intensity distribution of the particle group in two consecutive images of the water surface using a cross-correlation method. Therefore, to increase the accuracy of the flow velocity calculated by a SIV, it is important to accurately calculate the displacement of the particle group in the images. In other words, the change in the physical distance of the particle group in the two images to be analyzed must be accurately calculated. In the image of an actual river taken using a camera, camera lens distortion inevitably occurs, which affects the displacement calculation in the image. In this study, we analyzed the effect of camera lens distortion on the displacement calculation using a dense and uniformly spaced grid board. The results showed that the camera lens distortion gradually increased in the radial direction from the center of the image. The displacement calculation error reached 8.10% at the outer edge of the image and was within 5% at the center of the image. In the future, camera lens distortion correction can be applied to improve the accuracy of river surface flow rate measurements.
Damage to forests, such as broken or falling trees, has increased due to the increased intensity and frequency of abnormal climate events, such as strong winds and heavy rains. However, it is difficult to respond to them in advance based on prediction since structural defects such as cavities and bumps inside trees are difficult to identify with a visual inspection. Non-invasive sonic tomography (SoT) is a method of estimating internal defects while minimizing physical damage to trees. Although SoT is effective in diagnosing internal defects, its accuracy varies depending on the species. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the reliability of its measurement results before applying it in the field. In this study, we measured internal defects in wood by cross-applying destructive resistance micro drilling on old Pinus densifloraSiebold & Zucc. and Ginkgo bilobaL., which are representative tree species in Korea, to verify the reliability of SoT and compared the evaluation results. The t-test for the mean values of the defect measurement between the two groups showed no statistically significant difference in pine trees and some difference in ginkgo trees. Linear regression analysis results showed a positive correlation with an increase in defects in SoT images when the defects in the drill resistance graph increased in both species.
During the past ten years, Near Infrared Spectroscopy has been successfully applied to the analysis of a great variety of agriculture products. Previous works (Morra et al., 1991; Salgo et al., 1998) have shown the potential of this technology for soil analysis, estimating different parameters just with one single scan. The main advantages of NIR applications in soils are the speed of response, allowing the increase of the number of samples analysed to define a particular soil, and the instantaneous elaboration of recommendations for fertilization and soil amendment. Another advantage is to avoid the use of chemical reagents at all, being an environmentally safe technique. In this paper, we have studied a set of 129 soil samples selected from representative glasshouse soils from Southern Spain. The samples were dried, milled, and sieved to pass a 2 mm sieve and then analysed for organic carbon, total nitrogen, inorganic nitrogen (nitrate ammonium), hygroscopic humidity, pH and electrical conductivity in the 1:1 extract. NIR spectra of all samples were obtained in reflectance mode using a Foss NIR Systems 6500 spectrophotometer equipped with a spinning module. Calibration equations were developed for seven analytical parameters (ph, Total nitrogen, organic nitrogen, organic carbon, C/N ratio and Electric Conductivity). Preliminary results show good correlation coefficients and standard errors of cross validation in equations obtained for Organic Carbon, Organic Nitrogen, Total Nitrogen and C/N ratio. Calibrations for nitrates and nitrites, ammonia and electric conductivity were not acceptable. Calibration obtained for pH had an acceptable SECV, but the determination coefficient was found very poor probably due to the reduced range in reference values. Since the estimation of Organic Carbon and C/N ratio are acceptable NIIRS could be used as a fast method to assess the necessity of organic amendments in soils from Mediterranean regions where the low level of organic matter in soils constitutes an important agronomic problem. Furthermore, the possibility of a single and fast estimation of Total Nitrogen (tedious determination by modifications of the Kjeldahl procedure) could provide and interesting data to use in the estimation of nitrogen fertilizer rates by means of nitrogen balances.
The aim of this study is to investigate a correlation between fundamental data on aerodynamic characteristics of bridge girder cross-sections, such as aerodynamic force coefficients and flutter derivatives, and their aerodynamic behaviour. The section model tests were carried out in three stages. In the first stage, seven deck configurations were studied, namely; Six 2-edge girders and one box girder. In this stage, changes in aerodynamic force coefficients due to geometrical shape of girders, incidence angle of flow, wind directions and turbulence intensities were studied by static section model tests. In the second stage, the dynamic section model tests were carried out to investigate the relativity of static coefficients to dynamic responses. And finally, the two-dimensional (lift-torsion) aerodynamic derivatives of three bridge deck configurations were investigated by dynamic section model tests. The aerodynamic derivatives can be best described as a representation of the aerodynamic damping and the aerodynamic stiffness provided by the wind for a given deck geometry. The method employed here to extract these unsteady aerodynamic properties is known as the initial displacement technique. It involves the measurement of the decay in amplitude with time of an initial displacement of the deck in heave and torsion, for various wind speeds, in smooth flow. It is suggested that the proposed aerodynamic force coefficients and flutter derivatives of bridge girder sections will be potentially useful for the aeroelastic analysis and buffeting analysis.
The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70
