밀리미터파 무선전송채널의 강우 전파특성 예측모델 개발 (Prediction model of propagation of the millimeter wave wireless transmission channels in the rain environment)

  • ITU-R의 강우에 의한 교차편과 모델은 35 GHz까지만 적용가능하다. 본 논문에서는 빗방울의 형태에 따른 강우업자의 산란특성을 해석하고 실제의 강우환경에서 충분한 정확도를 가지는 교차편파에 대한 단순한 이론모델을 제안하였다. 이를 측정치 및 ITU-R 모델과 비교함으로써 밀리미터파대역까지 적용할 수 있는 교차편과 추정모델을 도출하였다.

  • 이중 편파는 직교성을 갖는 두개의 편파를 의미하며 통신상에서 두 개의 독립적인 채널로 간주되어 저궤도 위성에서 관측한 대용량의 데이터를 효과적으로 전송하는데 사용되어 진다. 하지만, 현실적으로 두 개의 편파는 서로가 완벽하게 독립적이지 않기 때문에 각 채널에는 간섭신호가 발생되어 결국 통과대역내의 잡음을 상승 시키는 문제를 야기한다. XPD(Cross-Polarization Discrimination)는 수신안테나와 동일한 편파로 송신된 신호와 상반된 편파로 송신된 신호가 수신 안테나의 출력에서 발생될 때 두 신호간의 비를 나타낸 것이다. 본 논문에서는 KOMPSAT-2에서 마치 이중 편파가 적용된 것처럼 가정한 뒤에 위성과 지상국간의 XPD의 영향을 분석하였다. 본 논문에서의 분석을 통해 99%의 환경적인 가용성과 0.5dB의 위성안테나 축비를 가정하였을 때, 2.5dB의 worst한 축비를 갖는 지상국 안테나를 고려함에도 불구하고 3dB 이상의 링크 마진을 확인할 수 있었다.

A Method to Suppress False Alarms of Sentinel-1 to Improve Ship Detection

  • In synthetic aperture radar (SAR) based ship detection application, false alarms frequently occur due to various noises caused by the radar imaging process. Among them, radio frequency interference (RFI) and azimuth smearing produce substantial false alarms; the latter also yields longer length estimation of ships than the true length. These two noises are prominent at cross-polarization and relatively weak at co-polarization. However, in general, the cross-polarization data are suitable for ship detection, because the radar backscatter from background sea surface is much less in comparison with the co-polarization backscatter, i.e., higher ship-sea image contrast. In order to improve the ship detection accuracy further, the RFI and azimuth smearing need to be mitigated. In the present letter, Sentinel-1 VV- and VH-polarization intensity data are used to show a novel technique of removing these noises. In this method, median image intensities of noises and background sea surface are calculated to yield arithmetic tendency. A band-math formula is then designed to replace the intensities of noise pixels in VH-polarization with adjusted VV-polarization intensity pixels that are less affected by the noises. To verify the proposed method, the adaptive threshold method (ATM) with a sliding window was used for ship detection, and the results showed that the 74.39% of RFI false alarms are removed and 92.27% false alarms of azimuth smearing are removed.

Accurate Evaluation of Polarization Characteristics in the Integrated Optic Chip for Interferometric Fiber Optic Gyroscope Based on Path-matched Interferometry

  • Accurate evaluation of polarization characteristics in the integrated optic chip (IOC) for interferometric fiber optic gyroscope was performed. Spatial distribution of optical wavetrains caused by the polarization parameters such as local polarization cross-coupling and polarization rejection coefficient of the IOC were measured utilizing the path-matched optical coherence domain polarimetry (PM-OCDP). With the analytic model deduced from Jones matrix representation, we could accurately identify the polarization characteristics of the IOC. Both degree of measurement error due to the imperfect equipment conditions in PM-OCDP and birefringence of IOC chip were also characterized.

  • This paper proposes a new polarization diversity scheme for OPFDM (Orthogonal Polarization and Frequency Division Multiplexing). OPFDM is an extension of OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) in conjunction with polarization multiplexing in order to ensure the orthogonality amongst subcarriers. Since OPFDM uses two orthogonally polarized channels, it can easily employ the polarization diversity. In order to get the diversity gain effectively in a frequency selective fading channel, the proposed scheme combines the signals in subcarrier-by-subcarrier basis. The computer simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme is superior to conventional one in the two orthogonally polarized two-ray Rayleigh fading channels with cross-talk between the two channels.

Estimation of Microwave Path Loss and Cross-Polarization Coupling in a Simple Urban Area

  • Whereas it is well known that microwave propagation around corners of urban area is estimated well by the uniform geometrical theory of diffraction (UTD), it is not clear how much depolarization occurs at a given receiver position and how much transmission through walls affects to total path loss. This paper presents the results of the ray tracing simulation to answer these questions. Simulations of microwave propagation around corners were performed for various line-of-sight (LOS) and out-of-sight(OOS) positions of a receiver, by summing the electrical fields of reflected, diffracted and transmitted rays coherently. Since height difference between transmitter and receiver, as well as ground plane, causes depolarization, the ray tracing simulation estimates the cross-polarization coupling. It was found that the cross-polarization coupling decreases as receiver moves away from transmitter. Another part of the study focused on the signal transmitted through building walls of the corner. It was found that the transmitted field is dominant at OOS region when the conductivity of the walls is low (for example, lower than 0.0l S/m). The simulation results of the ray tracing technique in this study agreed well with an experimental measurement around corners.

  • 본 논문에서는 massive MIMO(Multiple-Input Multiple-Output) 시스템의 채널 특성 분석을 위해, 3차원 레이트레이싱 기반 무선 채널 시뮬레이터인 Wireless Insite를 이용하여, 마이크로셀 환경에서 수평으로 선형 배열된 4개와 128개의 이중 편파 안테나 (dual polarized antenna)로 구성된 송신 배열 안테나 시스템의 각도 확산(angular spread), 교차 편파 식별도(cross polarization discrimination, XPD), 그리고 지연 확산(delay spread) 특성을 비교 분석하였다. 시뮬레이션 및 분석을 통해 128개의 안테나 원소로 구성된 massive MIMO 시스템의 각도확산과 지연 확산은 4개의 안테나 원소로 구성된 MIMO 시스템 보다 작아지고 교차 편파 식별도는 커진다는 것을 확인하였다.

  • This letter presents an antenna design method for an orthogonally-polarized dual antenna for use in mobile stations (MSs) and includes a verification method for improving the link-level throughput performance of an MS that uses a proposed multiple-input multiple-output antenna. The link-level throughput performance of an MS is strongly related to the correlation between antenna branches, which is determined by the cross polarization discrimination of the second branch antenna, both numerically and experimentally.

  • Laboratory experiment of polarimetric GPR measurement was conducted for the purpose of estimating subsurface inhomogeneity. Tow realization of inhomogeneous subsurface media were made by burying stone objects of different dimensions in homogeneous dry sand. Polarization ratio of cross polarization to co polarization data were examined to find their obviously distinguishable behavior.

UHF RFID 리더기용 송수신 겸용 이중 편파 안테나 (Dual-Polarized Tx/Rx Antenna for UHF RFID Reader)

  • 본 논문에서는 UHF 대역의 RFID 리더기용 송수신 겸용 이중 편파 안테나를 설계${\cdot}$제작하였다. RFID reader용 안테나에서 가장 중요시되는 각 포트간의 격리도나 편파 분리도 특성을 개선시키기 위해서 송${\cdot}$수신부의 급전 구조를 각각 설계하였고, 안테나의 방사부의 여기 방식은 시퀀셜 로테이션 방식으로 여기시켜 축비 대역폭을 증가시켰다. 제작된 안테나의 측정 결과로는 900 MHz${\~}$928 MHz에서의 안테나 이득은 약 2.35 dBi, 3 dB의 축비 범위에서 축비 대역폭은 150 MHz, 포트 격리도는 -38 dB${\~}$-40 dB, 원형 편파의 편파 분리도는 -30dB${\~}$-40 dB의 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.
