This paper presents the results of the experimental study on the performances of reinforced concrete beams rehabilitated by external unbonded high tension steel-bar. Design variables for the experiment in this study includes the position of anchorage zone of the high tension steel bar, the anchorage length of the reinforcing steel bar and the types of the shear strengthening measures. 5 specimens were tested with one point monotonically increased loads and structural performances such as strength capacities, ductility capacities and failure modes were analysed. It is found that the structural performance of the rehabilitated beams are strongly depended on the location of anchorage zone of the high tension steel-bars. In the case that anchorage zone is located near the critical shear zone, it is observed that the rehabilitated beam is failed in brittle failure mode and the additional shear strengthening is necessitated. But if anchorage zone is properly located or additional shear strengthening device is provided properly, it is also observed that the strength capacity of the rehabilitated beams could be increased more than $200\%$ by the proposed method.
The surface tension of solutions of synthesized ammonium caprylate and ammonium caprate was measured by the ring method. The changes with of surface tension of solution of ammonium caprylate showed evidently that the salt had the critical micelle concentration(c.m.c.) at $30^{\circ}C$. The c.m.c. values of above two salts were determined from the change of surface tension of solution with concentration at various temperatures. The temperature dependence of the c.m.c. and the influence of addition of excess ammonia on the c.m.c. were also investigated.
In this paper, free vibration finite element analysis of axially moving laminated composite beams subjected to axial tension is studied. It is assumed that the beam has a constant axial velocity and is subject to uniform axial tension. The analysis is based on higher-order theories that have been presented by Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF). In the CUF technique, the three dimensional (3D) displacement fields are expressed as the approximation of the arbitrary order of the displacement unknowns over the cross-section. This higher-order expansion is considered in equivalent single layer (ESL) model. The governing equations of motion are obtained via Hamilton's principle. Finally, several numerical examples are presented and the effect of the ply-angle, travelling speed and axial tension on the natural frequencies and beam stability are demonstrated.
Based on the experiment results, the damage and fracture behavior of concrete at the ages of 1d, 2d, 7d and 28d, in three-point bending and uniaxial tensile tests, were simulated with a finite element program, ABAQUS. The critical stress intensity factor $K_{IC}^s$ and the critical crack tip opening displacement ($CTOD_C$) of concrete were calculated with effective-elastic crack approach for the three-point bending test of grade C30 concrete. Based on the crack band model, a bilinear strain-softening curve was derived to simulate the LOAD-CMOD curves and LOAD-Displacement curves. In numerical analysis of the uniaxial tension test of concrete of grade C40, the damage and fracture mechanics were combined. The smeared cracking model coupling with damaged variable was adopted to evaluate the onset and development of microcracking of uniaxial tensile specimen. The uniaxial tension test was simulated by invoking the damage plastic model which took both damage and plasticity as inner variables with user subroutines. All the numerical simulated results show good agreement with the experimental results.
The conductances of trimethyltetradecylammonium bromide (TTAB) plus triphenyltetradecyl phosphonium bromide (TTPB) and TTAB plus trimethylhexadecylammonium bromide (HTAB) over the entire mole fraction range of TTAB were measured in water and in cyclodextrin plus water mixtures at fixed 4 and 8 mM of cyclodextrin at $30^{\circ}C$. The conductivity plot for both binary mixtures shows a single break from which the mixed critical micelle concentration and degree of micelle ionization were computed. From the slope of the conductivity curve, the equivalent ionic conductivities of the monomeric, associated, and the micelle states were calculated and discussed with respect to the surfactant-cyclodextrin complexation in the whole mole fraction range of both surfactant binary mixtures. The association constant K between the respective monomeric surfactant and cyclodextrin cavity of fixed 4 mM cyclodextrin was computed by considering 1:1 association from the surface tension measurement. A comparison among the K values for HTAB-cyclodetrin, TTAB-cyclodextrin, and TTPB-cyclodextrin shows that the former complexation is significantly stronger in comparison to the other ones due to the longer hydrophobic tail.
The effects of changing aqueous solution properties by nonionic surfactants on wetting behavior and water retention properies of hydrophobic PET (polyethylene terephthalate) fabric were reported. The aqueous solution properties were diversified by mixing and diluting two nonionic surfactants, i.e., sorbitan monolaurate (Span 20) and polyoxyethylene(20) sorbitan monolaurate (Tween 20). The surface wetting properties ($cos{\theta}$) of PET fabric were greatly improved by adding $10^{-1}g/dl$ Tween 20 and further improved by mixing Span 20 to the system. The water retention properties (W) of PET fabric were also greatly increased by addition of $10^{-1}g/dl$ Tween 20. In diluted surfactant systems, the $cos{\theta}'s$ were increased with decreasing surface tension of aqueous liquids. The ratios of aqueous liquid retained in the pore structure to liquid retention capacity (W/H) were also increased with decreasing surface tension, however, W/H values were dramatically increased right after critical micelle concentration (cmc). The existence of micelles was important for the retention of aqueous liquids in the fabric. The critical surface tension of PET fabric used was found to be 28.7dyne/cm.
The critical micelle concentration (CMC) of crude ginseng saponin in water was determined by fluorometry and surface-tension measurement. These two methods gave the the CMC value, 0.015g/100ml AND 0.013G/100ml, respectively. The surface excess of the saponin and the area occupied by a saponin molecule at the monolayer adsorbed at air and waterinterface were calculated employing Gibbs adsorption equation. The presence of salt increased the surface activity of the saponin: it decreased the CMC, the surface tension at the CMC and the area occupied by a saponin molecule at the monolayer, which should be due to the salting-out effect of the salt.
