충돌수분류에 냉각되는 고온 강판의 열전달에 있어 노즐높이의 영향에 대한 연구 (The Effect of Nozzle Height on Heat Transfer of a Hot Steel Plate Cooled by an Impinging Water Jet)

  • The effect of nozzle height on heat transfer of a hot steel plate cooled by an impinging liquid jet is not well understood. Previous studies have been based on the dimensionless parameter z/d. To test the validity of this dimensionless parameter and to investigate gravitational effects on the jet, stagnation velocity of an impinging liquid jet were measured and the cooling experiments of a hot steel plate were conducted for z/d from 6.7 to 75, and an inverse heat conduction method is applied for the quantitative comparison. Also, the critical instability point of a liquid jet was examined over a range of flow rates. The experimental velocity data for the liquid jet were well correlated with the dimensionless number 1/F $r_{z}$$^2$based on distance. It was thought that the z/d parameter was not valid for heat transfer to an impinging liquid jet under gravitational forces. In the cooling experiments, heat transfer was independent of z when 1/F $r_{z}$$^2$< 0.187(z/d = 6.7). However, it was found that the heat transfer quantity for 1/F $r_{z}$$^2$=0.523(z/d = 70) is larger 11% than that in the region for 1/F $r_{z}$$^2$=0.187. The discrepancy between these results and previous research is likely due to the instability of liquid jet.uid jet.

  • In the case of boiling on high temperature wall, vapor film covers fully or parcially the surface. This phenomenon, film boiling or transition boiling, is very important in the surface heat treatment of metal, design of cryogenic heat exchanger and emergency cooling of nuclear reactor. Mainly supposed hydraulic-thermal accidents in nuclear reactor are LCCA (Loss of Coolant Accident) and PCM (Power-Cooling Mismatch). Recently, world-wide studies on reflooding of high temperature rod bundles after the occurrence of the above accidents focus attention on wall temperature history and required time in transient cooling process, wall superheat at rewet point, heat flux-wall superheat relationship beyond the transition boiling region, and two-phase flow state near the surface. It is considered that the further systematical study in this field will be in need in spite of the previous results in ref. (2), (3), (4). The paper is the study about the fast transient cooling process following the wall temperature excursion under the CHF (Critical Heat Flux) condition in a forced convective subcooled boiling system. The test section is a vertically arranged concentric annulus of 800 mm long and 10 mm hydraulic diameter. The inner tube, SUS 304 of 400 mm long, 8 mm I.D, and 7 mm O.D., is heated uniformly by the low voltage AC power. The wall temperature measurements were performed at the axial distance from the inlet of the heating tube, z=390 mm. 6 chromel- alumel thermocouples of 76 .mu.m were press fitted to the inner surface of the heating tube periphery. To investigate the heat transfer characteristics during the fast transient cooling process, the outer surface (fluid side) temperature and the surface heat flux are computed from the measured inner surface temperature history by means of a numerical method for inverse problems of transient heat conduction. Present cooling (boiling) curve is sufficiently compared with the previous results.

Modified parity space averaging approaches for online cross-calibration of redundant sensors in nuclear reactors

  • To maintain safety and reliability of reactors, redundant sensors are usually used to measure critical variables and estimate their averaged time-dependency. Nonhealthy sensors can badly influence the estimation result of the process variable. Since online condition monitoring was introduced, the online cross-calibration method has been widely used to detect any anomaly of sensor readings among the redundant group. The cross-calibration method has four main averaging techniques: simple averaging, band averaging, weighted averaging, and parity space averaging (PSA). PSA is used to weigh redundant signals based on their error bounds and their band consistency. Using the consistency weighting factor (C), PSA assigns more weight to consistent signals that have shared bands, based on how many bands they share, and gives inconsistent signals of very low weight. In this article, three approaches are introduced for improving the PSA technique: the first is to add another consistency factor, so called trend consistency (TC), to include a consideration of the preserving of any characteristic edge that reflects the behavior of equipment/component measured by the process parameter; the second approach proposes replacing the error bound/accuracy based weighting factor ($W^a$) with a weighting factor based on the Euclidean distance ($W^d$), and the third approach proposes applying $W^d$, TC, and C, all together. Cold neutron source data sets of four redundant hydrogen pressure transmitters from a research reactor were used to perform the validation and verification. Results showed that the second and third modified approaches lead to reasonable improvement of the PSA technique. All approaches implemented in this study were similar in that they have the capability to (1) identify and isolate a drifted sensor that should undergo calibration, (2) identify a faulty sensor/s due to long and continuous missing data range, and (3) identify a healthy sensor.

Dislocation-oxide interaction in Y2O3 embedded Fe: A molecular dynamics simulation study

  • Oxide dispersed strengthened (ODS) steel is an important candidate for Gen-IV reactors. Oxide embedded in Fe can help to trap irradiation defects and enhances the strength of steel. It was observed in this study that the size of oxide has a profound impact on the depinning mechanism. For smaller sizes, the oxide acts as a void; thus, letting the dislocation bypass without any shear. On the other hand, oxides larger than 2 nm generate new dislocation segments around themselves. The depinning is similar to that of Orowan mechanism and the strengthening effect is likely to be greater for larger oxides. It was found that higher shear deformation rates produce more fine-tuned stress-strain curve. Both molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and BKS (Bacon-Knocks-Scattergood) model display similar characteristics whereby establishing an inverse relation between the depinning stress and the obstacle distance. It was found that (110)oxide || (111)Fe (oriented oxide) also had similar characteristics as that of (100)oxide || (111)Fe but resulted in an increased depinning stress thereby providing greater resistance to dislocation bypass. Our simulation results concluded that critical depinning stress depends significantly on the size and orientation of the oxide.

고속주행상황의 운전자 인지·반응시간에 관한 연구 (A Study on Driver Perception-Reaction Time in High-Speed Driving Situations)

  • PURPOSES : The desire of drivers to increase their driving speeds is increasing in response to the technological advancements in vehicles and roads. Therefore, studies are being conducted to increase the maximum design speed in Korea to 140 km/h. The stopping sight distance (SSD) is an important criterion for acquiring sustained road safety in road design. Moreover, although the perception-reaction time (PRT) is a critical variable in the calculation of the SSD, there are not many current studies on PRT. Prior to increasing the design speed, it is necessary to confirm whether the domestic PRT standard (2.5 s) is applicable to high-speed driving. Thus, in this study, we have investigated the influence of high-speed driving on PRT. METHODS : A driving simulator was used to record the PRT of drivers. A virtual driving map was composed using UC-Win/Road software. Experiments were carried out at speeds of 100, 120, and 140 km/h while assuming the following three driving scenarios according to driver expectation: Expected, Unexpected, and Surprised. Lastly, we analyzed the gaze position of the driver as they drove in the simulated environment using Smarteye. RESULTS : Driving simulator experimental results showed that the PRT of drivers decreased as driving speed increased from 100 km/h to 140 km/h. Furthermore, the gaze position analysis results demonstrated that the decrease in PRT of drivers as the driving speed increased was directly related to their level of concentration. CONCLUSIONS : In the experimental results, 85% of drivers responded within 2.0 s at a driving speed of 140 km/h. Thus, the results obtained here verify that the current domestic standard of 2.5 s can be applied in the highways designated to have 140 km/h maximum speed.

선속평탄 여과판 사용 유무에 따른 산란선 특성 (Characteristics of Scattered Rays Depending on the Use of a Flattening Filter)

  • 본 연구는 선형가속기를 이용한 방사선 조사에서 선속평탄 여과판 사용 유무에 따른 산란선을 측정하고 자 한다. 산란선 측정은 전리함을 사용하였으며, 조사한 방사선의 에너지는 6 MV와 10 MV 이다. 갠트리 회전 중심에서 전리함을 15, 25, 35, 45 cm 거리에 위치시키고 선속평탄 여과판 사용 유무와 거리에 따른 산란선을 측정하였다. 각각의 에너지에 대하여 100 cGy 조사한 결과 6 MV에서 선속평탄 여과판을 사용하지 않은 것에서 65% 정도로 낮게 발생되었고, 10 MV 에서는 55% 정도로 낮게 발생되었다. 즉, 방사선 치료에서 결정 장기 주변의 선량은 선속평탄 여과판을 사용하지 않을 때 산란선이 적게 발생되어 방사선에 대한 확률적인 영향을 줄이기 위한 유용한 방법으로 판단되어진다.

  • 도심지 무선 인터넷 서비스에서 전파 특성(wave propagation characteristics)을 정화하게 예측하여 서비스 영역을 결정하는데 있어서 최적의 기지국 선정, 셀 설계 등은 매우 중요한 과정이다. 서비스 지역의 지형 지물 및 인위적 구조물의 건물 재질 및 높이와 폭 등 각기 다른 특징으로 인하여 무선망 서비스의 송수신 거리에 큰 영향을 미치고 있으며, 이는 기본적으로 요구되어지는 무선 인터넷 품질을 정확하게 예측 및 분석하여 이용자에게 서비스를 제공하는데 큰 어려움을 갖게 한다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 문제점을 개선하기 위한 전파 예측 모델에 의한 기본 기지국 위치 선정 후 가장 서비스 영향을 미치는 기지국 위치 이동 및 안테나의 각도 등 무선망 최적화를 결정짓는 파라미터 값의 변화에 따라 서비스 영역이 최적화 되어 서비스 지역 덴 품질이 개선되는 과정을 시뮬레이션 함으로써 무선방 기지국 최적화 과정을 통하여 동일 지역 내 서비스 커버리지가 넓어지고 개선된 품질로서 이용자들이 질 높은 무선 인터넷 서비스를 제공받을 수 있게 된다는 것을 보여 주었다.

Synchronized sensing for wireless monitoring of large structures

  • Advances in low-cost wireless sensing have made instrumentation of large civil infrastructure systems with dense arrays of wireless sensors possible. A critical issue with regard to effective use of the information harvested from these sensors is synchronized sensing. Although a number of synchronization methods have been developed, most provide only clock synchronization. Synchronized sensing requires not only clock synchronization among wireless nodes, but also synchronization of the data. Existing synchronization protocols are generally limited to networks of modest size in which all sensor nodes are within a limited distance from a central base station. The scale of civil infrastructure is often too large to be covered by a single wireless sensor network. Multiple independent networks have been installed, and post-facto synchronization schemes have been developed and applied with some success. In this paper, we present a new approach to achieving synchronized sensing among multiple networks using the Pulse-Per-Second signals from low-cost GPS receivers. The method is implemented and verified on the Imote2 sensor platform using TinyOS to achieve $50{\mu}s$ synchronization accuracy of the measured data for multiple networks. These results demonstrate that the proposed approach is highly-scalable, realizing precise synchronized sensing that is necessary for effective structural health monitoring.

익형의 기하학적 조건에 따른 축류팬의 성능에 관한 연구 (Effects of geometric conditions of blade on Performance of Axial Pan)

  • Axial fan is used for the supplement of large amount of flows. Axial blowers show relatively high efficiency of the system. The present model of axial fan is for cooling a condenser in an air-conditioning unit that exhibits tendency toward compact size. In order to realize the compact model, the width of an axial blade should be cut down in axial distance. Main interest lies on the performance of the axial blowing system with blades having shorter chord length. One of the important design parameters for axial fan is the shape of the blades of it. Design of blades includes the cross-sectional shape and its dimension, including the chord length. We consider two types of blades; one is NACA airfoil with normal chord length and the other is with shortening chord length by $10\%$ of normal airfoil. Axial blower with the modified blades is essential for the compact model of an air-conditioner. The other design parameters are same in the two cases. Using a wind tunnel follows ASHRAE standards carries out evaluation of performance of the system. Detail of flows around the blades is prepared by velocity measurements using PIV. According to performance estimation, the axial blower with short chord blade show quite close to the performance results, including flow rate and pressure rise, of the standard one. The reason of the two similar results is that the flowpatterns depend on Reynolds number based on the chord length of a blade. In this investigation, the critical chord length is found, in which the flows near the airfoil are so unstable and the performance of the system is decreased. 열간 스피닝 공정을 통한 CNG 고압용기의 돔 및 입구 부 성형 (Forming of Dome and Inlet Parts of a High Pressure CNG Vessel by the Hot Spinning Process)

  • 압축천연가스(CNG) 압력용기는 D.D.I공정을 통해 실린더부를 제작한 후, 스피닝 공정을 통해 돔 부 성형이 이루어진다. 그러나 스피닝 공정의 입구 부 성형에 관한 연구는 미미하며, 현장 작업자들의 경험이나 시행착오에 의해 제작되고 있는 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 이론 임계좌굴하중 및 유한요소해석에서 축 방향 하중의 비교를 통하여 좌굴발생을 예측하였고, 상용 소프트웨어를 이용하여 돔부의 좌굴 방지를 위한 방법을 제안하였다. 또한, 입구 부 성형을 위하여 돔 부와 롤러가 맞닿는 점에서의 돔부의 반경에 따른 롤러 하중을 분석하고, 이를 토대로 입구 부 성형을 수행하였다.
