In HTS transformer with double pancake windings, the perpendicular component of leakage magnetic flux density ($B_{r}$ ) applied to HTS tapes of double pancake windings of HTS transformer acts as a cause to decrease the critical current in HTS tape. So, in this paper, HTS transformer with reciprocal arrangement winding is designed. And in order to investigate the$ B_{r}$ applied to HTS windings, the 2-D non-linear electromagnetic analysis of HTS transformer is performed by using the OPERA 2D. The maximum $B_{r}$ applied to winding of HTS transformer is 0.112 T and the characteristics of HTS transformer were also obtained. But in this type of winding arrangement, reciprocal arrangement, the generated ac-loss to the HTS windings is very high because of the applied $B_{r}$ to HTS windings. Therefore, in order to reduce the generated ac-loss to the HTS windings, the new design of HTS transformer with concentric winding arrangement is presented in this paper and the 2-D non-linear electromagnetic analysis and the ac-loss for HTS transformer with the concentric winding arrangement is also carried out.

YBCO films have been synthesized using a spray pyrolysis method. We used nitrates of Y, Ba, Cu as precursors. Deposition was made on $LaAlO_3$ (100) single crystal substrate by spraying the mist of aqueous precursor solution generated by a concentric nozzle. The distance between concentric nozzle and substrate was 15 cm. C-axis oriented films were obtained at deposition temperature of $740{\sim}800^{\circ}C$ and working pressure of 20 Torr. Oxygen partial pressure was 3 Torr and substrate was transported with the speed ranging from 0.23 cm/min to 0.7 cm/min by reel to reel. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) observation revealed that films are smooth and highly textured with (001) planes parallel to substrate. Highest critical current density (Jc) was $1.38\;MA/cm^2$ at 77K and self-field for the film with a thickness of $0.5\;{\mu}m$ prepared at a substrate temperature of $780^{\circ}C$ and $PO_2\;=3\;Torr$. The effect of temperature on the microstructure and YBCO phase formation will be discussed.
Relative humidity, membrane conductivity and water activity are critical parameters of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFC) for high performance and reliability. These parameters are closely related with temperature. Moreover, the ideal values of these parameters are not always identical along the channels. Therefore, the cooling channel design and its operating condition should be well optimized along the all location of the channels. In the present study, we have performed a numerical investigation on the effects of cooling channels on performance of a PEMFC. Three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations are solved with the energy equation including heat generated by the electrochemical reactions in the fuel cell. The present numerical model includes the gas diffusion layers (GDL) and serpentine channels for both anode and cathode gas flows, as well as cooling channels. To accurately predict the water transport across the membrane, the distribution of water content in the membrane is calculated by solving a nonlinear differential equation with a nonlinear coefficient, i.e., the water diffusivity which is a function of water content as well as temperature. Main emphasis is placed on the heat transfer between the solid bipolar plate and coolant flow. The present results show that local current density is affected by cooling channels due to the change of the oxygen concentration and the membrane conductivity as well as the water content. It is also found that the relative humidity is influenced by the generated water and the gas temperature and thus it affects the distribution of fuel concentration and the conductivity of the membrane, ultimately fuel cell performance. Unit-cell experiments are also carried out to validate the numerical models. The performance curves between the models and experiments show reasonable results.
Electro-Discharge Sintering (EDS) employs a high-voltage/high-current-density pulse of electrical energy, discharged from a capacitor bank, to instantaneously consolidate powders. In the present study, a single pulse of 0.57-1.1 kJ/0.45 g-atomized spherical $Ti_{52}Zr_{28}Ni_{20}$ powders in size range of 10~30 and $30\sim50{\mu}m$ consisting of ${\beta}$-(Ti, Zr) and icosahedral phases were applied to examine the structural evolution of icosahedral phase during EDS. Structural investigation reveals that high electrical input energy facilitates complete decomposition of icosahedral phase into C14 laves and ${\beta}$-(Ti, Zr) phases. Moreover, critical input energy inducing decomposition of the icosahedral phase during EDS depends on the size of the powder. Porous Ti and W compacts have been fabricated by EDS using rectangular and spherical powders upon various input energy at a constant capacitance of $450{\mu}F$ in order to verify influence of powder shape on microstructure of porous compacts. Besides, generated heat (${\Delta}H$) during EDS, which is measured by an oscilloscope, is closely correlated with powder size.
Cu/NbTi multilayer thin films and superconducting wires were fabricated and heat treated with conventional annealing and analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) as a basic study for the enhancement of Jc. Interfacial reactions of Cu/NbTi multilayer thin films and superconducting wires were investigated with optical microscope, SEM, and XRD. According to the effective heat of formation (EHF) model, CU$\_$3/Ti was predicted as a first phase. However, considering the crystalline structure and thermodynamics, CuTi was predicted as a first phase. According to the results of DSC and XRD, CU$\_$2/Ti was found to be the first phase, followed by the formation Of CU$\_$4/Ti. The difference in first crystalline phase between the experimental result and the predicted one was discussed. In case of Cu/NbTi superconducting wires, the compounds formed at the Cu/NbTi interface grew with annealing time and the amount of compounds formed in Nb-47wt%Ti alloy was larger than that in Nb-50wt%Ti alloy. It seemed that the incubation time for the formation of compounds in Nb-50wt%Ti alloy was longer than that formed in Nb-47wt%Ti alloy. Also, the diffusion was the rate controlling step for the growth of compounds in all specimens. These compounds were formed at 500-600.deg. C for I hour annealing and, thus, the drawing time below I hour must be required to minimize the growth of compounds for the enhancement of Jc.
To tap the feasibility of exploiting the 2$^{nd}$ phases as flux-pinning centers in the (Bi,Pb)$_2Sr_2Ca_2CuO_{10}$ superconductor, the size and the distribution of the precipitates have been controlled by changing reaction temperature and time, oxygen partial pressure Po$_2$ and annealing condition. Various annealing heat treatments were also conducted on the as-received 61 filament Bi-2223 tapes with Bi$_{1.8}Pb_{0.4}Sr_2Ca_{2.2}Cu_3O_8$ starting composition and annealed specimen were analyzed with XRD, SEM, EDS and TEM.. The grain size of (Ca,Sr)$_2$(BiPb)O$_4$ or Bi$_{0.5}Pb_3Sr_2Ca_2CuO_{\delta}$ was controllable by optimizing the heat treatment condition and critical current density (J$_c$) showed dependence on the size of the 2$^{nd}$ phases.

We report on the progress that has been made in developing $MgB_2$ superconducting wires and tapes for commercialization and research efforts. A number of techniques have been developed to overcome the obstacle posed by the poor critical current density ($J_c$) of pristine $MgB_2$. Chemical doping has proved to be the effective way to modify and enhance the superconducting properties, such as the $J_c$ and the irreversibility field ($B_{irr}$). More than 100 different types of dopants have been investigated over the past 8 years. Among these, the most effective dopants have been identified to be SiC and malic acid ($C_4H_6O_5$). The best results, viz. a $B_{irr}$ of 22 T and $J_c$ of $30,000\;A{\cdot}cm^{-2}$ at 4.2 K and 10 T, were reported for malic acid doped $MgB_2$ wires, which matched the benchmark performance of commercial low temperature superconductor wires. In this work, we discuss the progress made in $MgB_2$ conductors over the past few years at the University of Wollongong, Hyper Tech Research, Inc., and Ohio State University.

GdBCO coated conductor have been fabricated using reactive co-evaporation. The batch type co-deposition system was specially designed and was named EDDC (evaporation using drum in dual chamber) that is possible to deposit superconducting layer with optimum composition ratio of materials at temperature over $700^{\circ}C$ and several mTorr of oxygen. The IBAD-MgO substrate with the architecture of LaMnO3(LMO)/IBAD-MgO/Hastelloy was used for coated conductor. In this study, GdBCO superconducting layer was deposited on IBAD-MgO substrate at optimal oxygen partial pressure (pO2) and deposition temperature. After fabrication of GdBCO coated conductor, critical current density was measured by 4-probe method. Surface morphology and texture of GdBCO coated conductors were analyzed by the SEM and XRD, respectively.
This research aims to propose an ergonomic design process for hip protector based on previous studies, existing products, multidisciplinary experts opinion, and wearing test. The elderly are more likely to suffer a hip fracture when they fall due to their physical changes in skeletal form, muscle quantity, bone density, and joint movement. A hip protector is an effective product to prevent hip fractures in the elderly but it also has a problem in that it is uncomfortable. Therefore there is a high chance that it won't be able to prevent hip fractures properly. Since the comfort of a hip protector is one of the most critical elements in preventing a hip fracture, we need to keep improving the hip protector for mobility and usability. Based on the previous studies and limitations of current hip protector products, we need to come up with an optimal design for the Korean elderly. First, knowledge has to be built relating to the ergonomic design of the hip protector considering body shape and size analysis using 3D-scan data, and biomechanical analysis on hip fracture. Second, we need to develop a design process including hip protector pattern design, and wearing evaluation with virtual system. Third, we suggest to reevaluate and verify the design procedure from impact evaluation using testing simulator, virtual evaluation of impact, to wearing comfort and usability evaluation. This design process presented in this study would be expected to contribute to the development of ergonomic hip protector which is suitable for the Korean elderly.
The microstructure and corrosion behavior of commercially dental casting gold alloys were investigated to clarify the effect of burn-out temperature and cooling rate. In the case of water quenching after casting, only the αphase, which is typical dendritic microstructure of golda alloy, was detected. However, the precipitates along the grain boundary were detected only at the slow cooling rate and they increased inversely proportional to the burn-out temperature. This might be due to the time difference which solute atom could diffuse. EPMA and SEM results also demonstrated that the precipitate should be lamellar structure consisted of Ag rich phase(${\alpha}_1$) and Cu rich phase (${\alpha}_2$). In terms of corrosion, the galvanic coupling was formed due to the difference of composition between precipitates and matrix at the slow cooling rate. In the case of water quenching, the critical current density($i_p$) which indicate the degree of corrosion was lowest at $650^{\circ}C$ and below the burnout temperature, $i_p$ increased with it because of the effect of grain boundary segregation. But above the temperature, $i_p$ increased with it. This may be due to the strain field effect by residual thermal stress.
