Forecasting value-at-risk by encompassing CAViaR models via information criteria

  • This paper proposes a new method of VaR forecasting using the conditional autoregressive VaR (CAViaR) models and information criteria. Instead of using a single CAViaR model, we propose to utilize several candidate CAViaR models during a forecasting period. By adopting the Akaike and Bayesian information criteria for quantile regression, we can update not only parameter estimates but also the CAViaR specifications. We also propose extended CAViaR models with a constant location parameter. An empirical study is provided to examine the performance of the proposed method. The results suggest that our method shows more stable performance than those using a single specification.

  • The clutch coil mounted on the automotive air conditioner is an important part which actuates the clutch to connect or disconnect the pulley and the compressor according to the climate control condition in an automobile. Here, it is generally required that the clutch coil should ensure the long term durability requirement, such as a warranty for the 10 years of field operation or 160,000 km driving, especially in a brand new item, and so forth. However, some difficulties have arisen in restoring its credibility, since domestic specifications for the part have not been yet unified. In order to ensure the reliability, test methods and assessment criteria should be standardized. Moreover, assessed lifetime under specific conditions and potential failure analysis would be important. In this study, lifetime test specifications for the clutch coil have been reviewed and methodological suggestions are provided to ensure reliability, utilizing a quality function deployment through the potential failure mode effect analysis.

커튼월 공사의 성능·사양 연계 시방서 프로토타입 (Hybrid Prototype of Performance and Prescriptive Specifications in Curtain Wall Construction)

  • 건축공사 시 적정 품질 확보를 위해 활용되고 있는 대부분의 국내 설계기준 및 시방서는 절차를 중요시 하며 재료 치수 등을 규정하는 사양 기반이다. 공사업체의 창의성 저해 및 이로 인한 경쟁력 약화 등 사양시방서의 다양한 문제점에 기인하여 최근 최종 결과물을 중요시 하는 성능 기반의 시방서가 제시되고 있지만 건축 분야 적용에 한계가 있다. 본 연구에서는 국내외 시방서 사례의 성능 및 사양항목 기반의 커튼월 공사 성능 사양 연계 시방서 프로토타입을 제시하였다. 설문조사를 통해 중요 성능점검 시점을 도출하였으며, 각 시점별 관련 참여주체 역할을 반영한 성능점검 프로세스와 샘플시방서를 제시하였다. 전문가면담기반 검증 결과 현장적용성이 높고 공사 진행단계에서의 성능 확보를 적극적으로 지원할 수 있는 효과적인 도구로 평가되었다.

바이모달 트램 차량용 차체 및 실내의장의 설계사양 (Design Specifications of Car body and Interiors for Bimodal Tram Vehicle)

  • Since tram has the advantages to reduce construction cost of infrastructure, to improve accessibility of passengers, and to offer visual pleasures, nowadays, it is one of light rails attracting public attention. Tram can be classified into two groups, one is a conventional steel-wheeled type, and the other is a rubber-tired type (bi-modal tram). The bi-modal tram propelled by the serial CNG hybrid propulsion unit has been developing since 2003 in Korea, which can realize both scheduled operation of railway and route flexibility of bus. Because the bimodal will be operated on both railway mode and bus mode, however, specific criteria and regulations for its design, certification, construction, operation and maintenance have not been determined definitely yet. In consideration of mobility enhancement for the old and the handicapped, motor vehicle safety standard and urban transit (railway vehicle) safety standard, several design specifications were proposed for car body and interiors of the bimodal tram vehicle. The design specifications proposed in this paper can be expected to promote passengers' comfort and safety, operation efficiency of the bimodal tram.

초대형 선박용 차세대 컨테이너 크레인의 설계기준 (Design Criteria of a Future Container Crane for Megaships)

  • In this paper, the design criteria of future container crane for megaships are investigated. The current loading/unloading capacity of a typical container crane, roughly 30 moves/hr, is too law to meet the requirements of future super containerships, which are expected over 15,000 TEU. After examining the transition of containerships through the years and studying the research trend in developed countries, the specifications of the container crane that can Meet a 15,000 TEU containership are proposed. The structure, trolley and hoist mechanism, outreach, backreach, capacity, speeds, durability, and stability of the future container crane are described.

Multi-Criteria Group Decision Making under Imprecise Preference Judgments: Using Fuzzy Logic with Linguistic Quantifier

  • The increasing complexity of the socio-economic environments makes it less and less possible for single decision-maker to consider all relevant aspects of problem. Therefore are, many organizations employ groups in decision making. In this paper, we present a multiperson decision making method using fuzzy logic with linguistic quantifier when each of group members specifies imprecise judgments possibly both on performance evaluations of alternatives with respect to the multiperson criteria and on the criteria. Inexact or vague preferences have appeared in the decision making literatures with a view to relaxing the burdens of preference specifications imposed to the decision-makers and thus taking into account the vagueness of human judgments. Allowing for the types of imprecise judgments in the model, however, makes more difficult a clear selection of alternative(s) that a group wants to make. So, further interactions with the decision-makers may proceed to the extent to compensate for the initial comforts of preference specifications. These interaction may not however guarantee the selection of the best alternative to implement. To circumvent this deadlock situation, we present a procedure for obtaining a satisfying solution by the use of linguistic quantifier guided aggregation which implies fuzzy majority. This is an approach to combine a prescriptive decision method via a mathematical programming and a well-established approximate solution method to aggregate multiple objects.

주사전자현미경을 활용한 세라믹의 분석 (Analysis of Ceramics Using Scanning Electron Microscopy)

  • A ceramic is used as a key material in various fields. Accordingly, the use of scanning electron microscopy is increased for the purpose of evaluating the reliability and defects of advanced ceramic materials. The scanning electron microscope is developed to overcome the limitations of optical microscopy and uses accelerated electrons for imaging. Various signals such as SE, BSE and characteristic X-rays provide useful information about the surface microstructure of specimens and, the content and distribution of chemical components. The development of electron guns, such as FEG, and the improved lens system combined with the advanced in-lens detectors and STEM-in-SEM system have expanded the applications of SEM. Automated SEM-EDS analysis also greatly increases the amount of data, enabling more statistically reliable results. In addition, X-ray CT, XRF, and WDS, which are installed in scanning electron microscope, have transformed SEM a more versatile analytical equipment. The performance and specifications of the scanning electron microscope to evaluate ceramics were reviewed and the selection criteria for SEM analysis were described.

  • In this paper, design specifications for a new generation container crane in year 2013 is investigated. After analyzing the trend of the development of container cranes from the 1950s to date, a prospective size for targeting year 2013 is proposed. Introductory specifications of the frame, trolley, hoist and spreader for the proposed new crane are discussed. Considering that the mega-ships will load and unload more than 15000 boxes at one stop, rough dimensions of the crane including outreach, rail gage, lift, backreach, etc. are also suggested. Although the sheer size of the cranes already present some challenges, the biggest challenge is to improve productivity by maximizing the moves per hour. For this, the speeds of trolleys and hoists, rail loads, stability, etc. are discussed.

강섬유 숏크리트의 설계 및 시공에 대한 문제점 및 개선방향에 대한 연구 (A development of modification program for steel fiber reinforced shotcrete during design and construction stages)

  • The quality control of tunnel support construction is very important to maintain a long term stability of tunnel. Especially, steel fiber reinforced shotcrete should be necessary to investigate practically the condition of quality control in the construction site. In order to perform this study, the design criteria and specifications relevant to steel fiber reinforced shotcrete are reviewed. And the comparison is made between the bearing capacity of the several shotcrete layers, based on the equivalence of the bending moments. Eight tunnel construction sites are also investigated carefully to examine and analyse the characteristics of steel fiber reinforced shotcrete especially including strength and mixing condition of steel fiber. Based on the results, it is founded the items to be improved in the future. In addition, the modification program for the specifications of steel fiber reinforced shotcrete is suggested.

공통평가기준에 의한 보안정책모델 평가방법 (An Evaluation Method for Security Policy Model Based on Common Criteria)

  • 보안정책모델은 평가대상제품(Target of Evaluation, TOE)의 보안정책을 비정형적, 준정형적, 또는 정형적 방법을 사용하여 구조적으로 표현하는 한 것이다. 보안정책모델은 보안기능요구사항과 기능명세간의 일관성 및 완전성을 제공함으로써 평가대상제품이 요구사항과 기능명세간 불명확성으로 인한 보안결점을 최소화할 수 있도록 보증성을 보장한다. 이러한 이유로 ISO/IEC 15408(공통평가기준. CC) 등 IT 제품 및 시스템의 보안성 평가기준의 고등급 평가에서 보안정책모델을 요구하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 보안정책모델의 개념과 관련 연구 및 공통평가기준의 보안정책모델 보증요구사항을 분석하여 보안정책모델 평가방법을 제시한다.
