Due to the high temperature and pressure, the materials of pipeline in power plant are degraded by creep damage. So far, many conventional measurement techniques such as replica method, electric resistance method, adn hardness test method for creep damage have been used. Among them, the replica method has mainly been used for the inspection of components. But this technique is restricted to the applications at the surface of the objects and cannot be used to material inside. In this paper, the measuring methods of evaluation by using ultrasonic attenuation and electric resistance for the creep detection of creep damage in the form of cavities on grain boundaries or intergranular microcracks were carried out. Absolute measuring method of quantitave ultrasonic attenuation technique for 1Cr0.5Mo material degradation was analyzed for determining the creep degradation steps using life prediction formula. As a result of measurement for creep specimens, we founded that the coefficient of utrasonic attenuation was increased as the increase of creep life fracton(${phi}c$) and the decreasing rate of wlwctric resistance was also increased.
Following our previous reports for finger-jointed woods with various finger profiles studied for the efficient use of small diameter logs and woods containing various defects, twelve types of finger-jointed woods glued with three kinds of adhesives and with two sizes of finger pitches were made with sitka spruce and red pine. The effects of the adhesives and finger pitches on bending creep performances of finger-jointed woods were investigated. The shape of creep curves differed among the used adhesives and finger pitches of finger-jointed woods for both tested species. Their creep curves showed a linear behavior beyond about one hour, and the N values fitted to power law increased with increasing finger pitches. The initial deformation increased with increasing finger pitches, regardless of the tested species and kinds of adhesives, whereas the effect of finger pitches on the creep deformation was not clear. For finger-jointed woods glued with polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) resin, creep failure occurred in 106 hours after the load was applied. And the difference of the creep compliance between finger-jointed woods glued with resorcinol-phenol formaldehyde (RPF) resin and aqueous vinyl urethane (AVU) resin was small. The ratios for creep performances of finger-jointed woods glued with RPF resin and AVU resin versus solid wood were higher in creep deformation than initial deformation for both species, and the difference between both adhesives was not found. The relative creep decreased with increasing finger pitches, and the marked differences was not found between RPF resin and AVU resin.
It was confirmed that the life predictive equation by LMP-ISM are effective only up to 10$^2$hours and can not be used for long times of 10$^3$~10$^{5}$ hours, but that by ISM can be used for long times creep life prediction with more reliability. The predictive creep life equation of ISM has better reliability than those by LMP and LMP-ISM, and its realizably is getting better for long time creep prediction(10$^3$~10$^{5}$ H).
Inconel 690 alloy has widely been used in power plant and high temperature facilities because it has high thermal resistance and toughness. But we have little design data about the creep behaviors of the alloy. Therefore, in this study, an apparatus has been designed and built for conducting creep tests under constant load conditions. A series of creep tests on Inconel 690 alloy have been performed to get the basic design data and life prediction of inconel products and we have gotten the following results. First, the stress exponents decrease as the test temperatures increase. Secondly, the creep activation energy gradually decreases as the stresses become bigger. thirdly, the constant of Larson-Miller Parameters on this alloy is estimated about 10. And last the fractographs at the creep rupture show both the ductile and the brittle fracture according to the creep conditions.
Titanium alloy has widely been used as glasses rim material because it has high specific strength and also is light, harmless to men. But, we have little design data about the creep behaviors of the alloy. Therefore, in this study, an apparatus has been designed and built for conducting creep tests under constant load conditions. A series of creep tests on them have been performed to get the basic design data and life prediction of titanium products and we have gotten the following results. First, the stress exponents decrease as the test temperatures increase. Secondly, the creep activation energy gradually decreases as the stresses become bigger. Thirdly, the constant of Larson-Miller parameters on this alloy is estimated about 13. And last, the fractographs at the creep rupture show both the ductile and the brittle fracture according to the creep conditions.
Commercially pure copper is tested to obtain creep curves at 2500C. Constitutive relations adopting continuum damage mechanics concept is found to be appropriate to model the creep defor mation up to the tertiary stage. Microscopic observation by SEM reveals that creep condition induces cavities and microcracks subsequently. The constitutive equations along with evaluated creep parameters are implemented into finite element analysis code. The analysis reproduces creep curves under step loading as well as constant loading with reasonable accuracy. Distribution and evolution of damage under creep loading are numerically simulated for two different types of notched specimen. Predicted creep life agrees quite well with rupture test results. The influence of mesh size at notch tip on rupture time prediction is studied, and a degree of refinement is suggested for the specific notched specimens.
Creep tests for Titan were carned out using constant-load at $600^{\circ}C$, $650^{\circ}C$ and $700^{\circ}C$. Material constants necessary to predict creep life were acquired from the experimental creep data. And the applicability of Monkman-Grant(M-G) and modified M-G relationships was discussed. It was discovered the log-log plot of M-G relationships between the rupure time(tr) and he minimum creep rate(${\varepsilon}_m$) was conditional on test temperatures. The slop of m was 2.75 at $600^{\circ}C$ and m was 1.92 at $700^{\circ}C$. However; the log-log plot of modified M-G relationships between $t_r/\varepsilon_r$ and $\varepsilon_m$ was indpendent on stresses and temperatures. That is the slop of m' was almost 3.90 in all the data. Thus, change M-G relationships to creep life prediction could be vtilized more reasonably than that of M-G relationships for type Titan. It was divided that the constant slopes never theless of temperatures of practical stresses in the modified relationship were due to an intergranular break grown by wedge-type cauities.
The most effective means of evaluating remaining life is through the creep testing of samples removed from the component. But sampling of large specimen from in-service component is actually impossible. So, sampling device and small-specimen creep tester have been applied. Sampling device has been devised to extract mechanically small samples by hemispherical, diamond -coated cutter from the surface of turbine rotor bores and thick-walled pipes without subsequent weld repairs requiring post weld heat treatment. A method of manufacturing small creep specimen, 2min gage diameter and 10min gage length, using electron beam welding to attach grip section, has been proven. Small-specimen creep tester has been designed to control atmosphere to prevent stress increment by oxidation during experiment. To determine whether the small specimens successfully reproduce the behavior of large specimens, creep rupture tests for small and large specimens have been performed at identical conditions. Creep rupture times based on small specimens have closely agreed within 5% error compared with that of large specimen. The errors in rupture time have decreased at longer test period. This comparison validates the procedure for fabricating and testing on small specimen. This technique offers potential as an efficient method for remaining life assessment by direct sampling from in -service high temperature components.
25Cr-20Ni series strainless steels have an excellent high temperature strength high oxidation and high corrosion resistance. However, further improvement can be expected of creep strength by work hardening prior creep. In the present study, the effect of prestraining at room temperature on the creep behavior of a Class M(STS310S) and a Class A(STS310J1TB) alloy containing precipitates have been examined. Prestaining was carried out at room temperature and range of prestrain was 0.5-2.5 % at STS310J1TB and 2.0-7.0% at STS310S. Creep behavior and creep rate of pre-strained specimens were compared with that of virgin specimens. Room temperature prestraining produced the creep life that is longer than that of a virgin specimen both for STS310J1TB and STS310S when creep test was carried out at the temperature lower than recrystallization temperature. The reason for this improvement of creep life was ascribable to the interaction between dislocations and precipitates in addition to the dislocation-dislocation interaction in STS310J1TB and the dislocation-dislocation interaction in STS310S. The beneficial effect of prestraining in STS310J1TB was larger than that of STS310S.
It has been reported that the creep characteristics on weldment which is composed of weld metal(W.M), fusion line(F.L), heat-affected zone(HAZ), and base meta(B.M) could be unpredictably changed in severe service conditions such as high temperature and high pressure. However, the studies done on creep damage in power plant components have been mostly conducted on B.M and not the creep properties of the localized microstructures in weldment have been thoroughly investigated yet. In this paper, it is investigated the creep characteristics for three microstructures like coarse-grain HAZ(CGHAZ), W.M, and B.M in X20CrMoV121 steel weldment by the small punch-creep-(SP-Creep) test using miniaturized specimen(l0×10×0.5mm). The W.M microstructure possesses the higher creep resistance and shows lower creep strain rate than the B.M and CGHAZ. In the lower creep load the highest creep strain rate is exhibited in CGHAZ, whereas in the higher creep load the B.M represents the high creep strain rate. The power law correlation for all microstructures exists between creep rate and creep load at 600℃. The values of creep load index (n) based on creep strain rate for B.M, CGHAZ, and W.M are 7.54, 4.23, and 5.06, respectively and CGHAZ which shows coarse grains owing to high welding heat has the lowest creep loade index. In all creep loads, the creep life for W.M shows the highest value.
