  • In this study, effects due to differences of creep and shrinkage which is caused by material differences such as concrete characteristic and age in an asymmetric PSC box girder were evaluated. For this purpose the prestress distribution, creep and shrinkage were analyzed with the FE analysis program, LUSAS 14.3. As a result of the prestress, the stress distribution was stable. In case of the analysis result which was conducted with 1,000 days response time, the shear stress between PC section and CIP section is satisfied with design shear strength.

  • It is hard to predict shrinkage and creep that are influenced of exposure conditions, mix designs, and loading conditions etc. This paper present an evaluation of the reliability of the five shrinkage and creep prediction models using eight test data that are obtained from domestic FCM bridge concrete. For the reasonable evaluation of model and actual data, five statistical methods were used.

  • In many cases, underground structures are built using conventional above-grade structural systems to carry gravity load. This paper proposes the use of underground arches, termed "buried arches", to support gravity loads, wherein the horizontal thrust of the arch is equilibrated by soil pressure. Because the horizontal soil pressure increases with depth, the depth of the arch may be reduced as the depth below grade increases. Critical to the success of such an approach is a proper accounting of creep and shrinkage for arches made of reinforced concrete. This paper addresses the influence of equilibrium, creep, and shrinkage as they affect the design of the arch from a theoretical perspective. Several examples illustrate the use of buried arches for the design of underground parking structures.

  • This study examined the long-term inelastic characteristics, including unrestrained shrinkage and creep, of low-heat cement concrete under different ambient curing temperatures. To achieve the designed compressive strength of 42MPa, water-to-binder ratios were selected to be 27.5, 30, and 32.5% for curing temperatures of 5, 20, and $40^{\circ}C$, respectively. Test results showed that the shrinkage strains of concrete mixtures tended to decrease with the decrease in curing temperature because of the delayed evaporation of internal capillary and gel waters. Meanwhile, creep strains were higher in concrete specimens under lower curing temperature due to the occurrence of the transition temperature creep. The design models of KCI provision gave better accuracy in comparison with test results than those of ACI 209, although a correction factor for low-heat cement needs to be established in the KCI provision.

  • This paper proposes rheological creep and shrinkage model of FCM bridges made for HPC about 40Mpa. The proposed model separates time dependent part with characteristic material part and regards main variable as elastic modulus, which represents material characteristic and history. To find parameters of the model, we had creep, shrinkage and basic material tests about four FCM bridges. All specimens were tested with same condition, after 3days, 28days and 90days of curing. Also, exposed condition and closed condition were separately given to compare the data of each bridge. Finally, all creep data of four FCM bridges were compared to proposed rheological model and other proposed world code models, AASHTO, ACI, CEB-FIP, JSCE and etc.

  • Creep, drying shrinkage, modulus of elasiticity and Poisson's ratio of concrete are influenced by a number of factors such as mix type, member thickness, curing condition and loading cases. Particularly, creep and shrinkage in concrete have yet to be studied due to its complicated time-dependent properties. In this study, the concrete creep tests were carried out at varous ages of loading-7, 28, 90, 180 and 365 days in order to investigate and quantify its long-term properties. The test procedures and analysis of the test results were also described herein. The results of this study will enable A/E to calculate effective prestressing forces considering time-dependent prestressing loss and evaluate the structural integrity of the prestressing system using the representative values derived from this property test.

  • In the concrete st~uctures exposed to the environmental condition, the water movement is occurred by thc moisture difilsion, and the rnoisturrt distribution in concwt.c is nonunifhrm. Such a non-unif'orm moisture distribution causes tht. diflbrent.ia1 drying shrinkage in concrete structures. From this typc. of' dif'fercntial drying shrinkagr' tensiit-1 stress is occurred in exposure surface of concrete structures. and may result in crack formation. This residual stress is significantly affected by the creep of concrete, and the differential creep is also occurred at the cross section of concrete structures due to moisture difference at each locations. In this study, based on the moisture diffusion theory, a finite element program which is capable of simulating the moisture distribution in concrete was developed. And the analysis method for the differential drying shrinkage was suggested, in which the differential creep was considered. The differential drying shrinkage strain was also measured at various positions of concrete. Finally the validity of analysis method was proved by comparing test results with analytical results.

  • This study is to measure the creep coefficient by 3 days, 7 days and 28 days in the age when loading for the quality assessment of $350kgf/cm^2$ in the high-strength concrete. And it is to analyze the behavior of creep coefficient by applying the experimental data though the compressive strength test, the elastic modulus test and the dry shrinkage test to the ACI-209, AASHTO-94 and CEB/FIP-90, the prediction mode, and the basis of concrete structural design. Also it is to analyze the behavior of short-term creep coefficient during 91 days in the age when loading through the experiment by using the regression analysis, the statistical theory. As applying it to the long-term behavior during 365 days and comparing with the creep prediction mode and examining it, the result from the analysis of the quality of the concrete is as follows. As the result of comparison and analysis about the ACI-209, AASHTO-94 and CEB/FIP-90, the prediction mode, and the basis of concrete structural design, the normal Portland cement class 1 shows the approximate value with the prediction of GEE/PIP-90 and the basis of concrete structural design, but in case of the prediction of ACI-209 and AASHTO-94, there would be worry of underestimation in the application.

  • This paper proposes a model for the analysis of the construction sequences of steel-concrete composite decks in which the slab is cast-in-situ for segments. The model accounts for early age shrinkage, such as thermal and endogenous shrinkage, drying shrinkage, tensile creep effects and the complex sequences of loading due to pouring of the different slab segments. The evolution of the structure is caught by suitably defining the constitutive relationships of the concrete and the steel reinforcements. The numerical solution is obtained by means of a step-by-step procedure and the finite element method. The proposed model is then applied to a composite deck in order to show its potential.

  • Reinforced concrete floors constructed between movement restraints often crack seriously due to shrinkage after completion. One common mitigation measure is to construct the concrete floors in stages to allow part of the shrinkage movement to take place before completion. However, shrinkage movement analysis of concrete floors constructed in stages is quite cumbersome, as the structural configuration changes during construction, thus necessitating reanalysis of the partially completed structure at each stage. Herein, a finite element method for shrinkage movement analysis of concrete floors constructed in stages is developed. It analyses the whole structure, including the completed and uncompleted portions, at all stages. The same mesh is used all the time and therefore re-meshing and location matching are no longer necessary. This is achieved by giving negligibly small stiffness to the uncompleted portions, which in reality do not exist yet. In the analysis, the locked-in strains due to increase in elastic modulus as the concrete hardens and the creep of the hardened concrete are taken into account. Most important of all, this method would enable fully automatic shrinkage movement analysis for the purpose of construction control.
