  • For efficient use and expansion of domestic small- and medium-diameter woods, cross-laminated wood panels composed of tropical hardwoods and domestic temperate woods were fabricated, and the bending creep behavior under long-term loading was investigated. The bending creep curve of the cross-laminated wood panels showed an exponential function graph with a sharp increase at the top right side. The wood panel composed of a teak top layer and larch core and bottom layers recorded the highest initial deformation, and that composed of a merbau top layer and tulip core and bottom layers showed the lowest initial deformation. Creep deformation of the cross-laminated wood panels showed the highest value in that composed of a teak top layer and larch core and bottom layers and showed the lowest value in that composed of a merbau top layer and tulip core and bottom layers. The obtained creep deformation is 3.1-4.3 times that of merbau, however, it is remarkably lower than that of tulip and larch. The highest relative creep was recorded by the wood panel composed of merbau top layer and larch core and bottom layers, whereas that composed of the teak top layer and tulip core and bottom layers showed the lowest relative creep.

  • In this paper, using by the orthogonalities of modes for trainwheel (as Mindlin's annular plate and rail (as Timoshenko beam), the frequency equation of the coupled system are induced. It is convinced that the natural frequencies of coupled system are distributed to be about quadratic order function examined through the experimental and numerical analysis. The natural frequencies of the system coupled by both creep force and creep moment are composed of the natural frequencies of the system coupled by creep force and the natural frequencies of the system coupled by creep moment . And it is shown that the coupled natural frequencies up to 3rd do not make much difference from the values of the system coupled by individual creep force of creep moment. But the coupled natural frequencies higher than the 3rd are quite different from those of individual case.

  • The compression creep behavior of grains when loaded depends not only on load but also on duration of load application. The most common methods of studying the load-time characteristics of agricultural products is by employing rheological models such as Burger's model. However it is sometimes not sufficient to describe the viscoelastic behavior of grains to be Burger's model. For this reason, this study was conducted to develop the rheological model which represented the creep compliance response of the rough rice kernel and was a function of initial stress applied and time. The effects of the initial stress applied and the moisture content on the compression creep behavior of the rough rice kernel were analyzed. The results were obtained from the study as follows: 1. Since the viscoelastic behavior of the rough rice kernel was nonlinear, the transient and steady state creep compliance was satisfactorily modelled as follows: $$J({\sigma},t)=A{\sigma}^B[C+Dt-exp(-Ft)]$$ But, for the every stress applied, the compression creep behavior of the samples tested can be well described by Burger's model respectively. 2. The creep compliance, the instantaneous elastic strain, the retarded elastic strain and the viscous strain of the sample tested generally increased in magnitude with increasing the applied initial stress and the moisture content used in the tests. At low moisture content, the creep compliance for the Japonica-type rough rice kernel Was a little higher than those for Indica-type and at high moisture content, vice versa at high moisture content. 3. The retardation times of the samples had not an uniform tendency by the initial stress and the moisture content. The retardation times ranged from 0.66 to 6.76 seconds, and the creep progressed from transient to steady state at a relatively high rate. 4. The less viscous strain than the instantaneous elastic strain for the samples tested indicated that rough rice kernel behaved as a viscoelastic body characterized by elasticity than viscosity.

  • carried out to present a rheology model which is able to treat time-dependent properties of clay. The results were summarized as follow ; 1. The slope (a(e1)) of deviator stress in strain rate test was independent on axial strain, and pore water pressure was decreased with increment of strain rate. 2. The pore water pressure in a stress relaxation condition was not changed when the strain rate before stress relaxation was 0.05%/min., but it was increased with increment of time when the strain rate before stress relaxation was 0.2%/min 3. The greater the stress condition (q/qmax) and the strain rate before creep test became, the greater the increment rate of axial strain in creep test became. 4. SEKIGUCHI's constitutive equation was slightly overpredicted while empirical equation proposed in the study was well coincided with measured values. 5. The constitutive equation induced by a strain function could be dealed with a behavior of the pore water pressure increased with increment of elapsed time after primary consolidation.

  • In the present work appropriate concrete material models have been proposed to predict drying shrinkage and specific creep of High-performance concrete (HPC) using Artificial Neural Network (ANN). The ANN models are trained, tested and validated using 106 different experimental measured set of data collected from different literatures. The developed models consist of 12 input parameters which include quantities of ingredients namely ordinary Portland cement, fly ash, silica fume, ground granulated blast-furnace slag, water, and other aggregate to cement ratio, volume to surface area ratio, compressive strength at age of loading, relative humidity, age of drying commencement and age of concrete. The Feed-forward backpropagation networks with Levenberg-Marquardt training function are chosen for proposed ANN models and same implemented on MATLAB platform. The results shows that the proposed ANN models are more rational as well as computationally more efficient to predict time-dependent properties of drying shrinkage and specific creep of HPC with high level accuracy.

  • Fully reversed push-pull low cycle fatigue tests under strain control of trapezoid cyclic mode have been conducted in air at temperature of 550.deg. C and with frequency of 0.5 cpm on the domestic stainless steel STS 316 after solution treatment for 1 hour at 1100.deg. C. As an experimental equipment for high temperature fatigue tests, an electric servo-hydraulic fatigue machine(Instron model 1350) was used. This paper presents the effects of creep hold time and plastic strain range on push-pull high temperature low cycle fatigue life and fracture behavior. The fracture surfaces were observed by means of the scanning electron microscope. The results are as follows. (1) The fatigue life decreases with increase of the plastic strain range equal hold time and also decreases as the hold time is getting longer. (2) The frequency modified damage function can predict fatigue life by incorporating a variation of Coffin's frequency modified approach into damage function. (3) The ratios of creep damage and fatigue damage can be calculated by using he linear accumulation damage concept and the ratio of creep damage increases as the hold time is getting longer. (4) At the creep hold time of 5 minutes and the strain range of 2.0%, the fracture mode was intergranular fracture and striations were hardly observed. In this case, the intergranular cracking was originated in void type('.gamma.' type) cracking.

  • The effect of temperature and soil confining stress on geosyntheic creep behaviour was studied by performing the temperature dependent confined creep tests for HDPE geogrid and geomembrane specimen. The visco-elastic creep coefficients of the geosynthetics were evaluated by the test results and it was proposed that the simple expressions for the instantaneous and limit creep strain of geosynthetics was considered as a function of temperature and confining stress on geosynthetics. Based on the time-temperature superposition principle, a master curve has been drawn for extrapolating tensile creep strains to longer time intervals(1$\times$10 $^7$min.∼1$\times$10$^{10}$min.). By using this master curves, the shift factors which can be used in establishing master curve considering confining stress on geosynthetics were carried out. Each tests was performed during 8,000∼12,000 min., with temperature ranging between 5$^{\circ}C$ and 4$0^{\circ}C$ and with confining stress ranging between 0 t/$m^2$ and 9 t/$m^2$.

  • This paper deals with the development of simplified methods to predict the creep deformation of reinforced concrete beams. The layer approach based on a degenerate kernel of compliance function in form of Dirichlet series is mentioned and a simplified analytical method derived from the equilibrium equations and compatibility conditions is proposed to overcome the sophisticated calculation procedures in the classical creep analysis. Correlation studies between analytical and experimental results and design codes are conducted with the objective to establish the validity of the proposed methods. Besides, various parameter studies are conducted with the objective to identify the effects of cracking, steel ratio and sectional shape in the creep deformation and the obtained results are discussed.

  • The creep crack growth rate (da/dt) of the Cr-Mo steels tested by pre-crack and the voltage (or resistance) variables were related into fracture parameter (Ct), crack growth coefficient (H), and an exponent (q) in the parts of Base, weld and HAZ. The fracture parameter (Ct) has various variables relating to the specimen and crack shape, applied stress, and creep strain curve. The H and q was inferred by OLS regression (ordinary least square method), and the H values were solved in statistics and probability assessment, which were attained fromPDF's distributions (probability density function). The HAZ part has the highest value of q by OLS regression and the widest distribution of H by PDF of WEIBULL, which means that the crack sensitivity of HAZ should be cautioned against the creep crack growth and failure.

  • In order to accurately assess the stresses occurring in the early-age concrete, a compliance function which can consider the characteristics of early-age concrete is required. Existing compliance functions, however, have the limit that they have been deduced from the data of hardened concrete and therefore, do not take into account the fast development of material properties in early-age concrete. Furthermore, the distinction between instantaneous compliance and creep compliance is not clear in the existing experimental method. The purpose of present study is to propose a compliance function which can describe the rapid change of hardening processes in early-age concrete. To this end, a test method which can estimate the instantaneous compliance without creep effects in the early-age concrete was suggested first. Based on the suggested experimental method, tests on the instantaneous as well as creep compliance were performed using MTS automatic servo-loop test machine. The test results showed that both instantaneous and aging viscoelastic compliance, which are constants in B3 model, were functions in terms of age of concrete especially at early ages. Therefore, the modified compliance function based on B3 model was proposed to provide more realistic prediction on the behavior of early-age concrete. It is expected that the present model allows more realistic evaluation of varying stresses in concrete structures at early ages.
