Burger's model was used to analyze creep characteristics of unconsolidated rock. Burger's model should determine four physical parameters from two pairs of data. In this study, physical parameters of Burger's model were determined by applying mathematical concept solution. Creep was accelerated for three years using the determined physical parameters of the Burger's model for unconsolidated rocks. As a result, the creep behavior showed a continuous deformation behavior without convergence. Therefore, in this mine, it is analyzed that the application of U-Beam is more appropriate than roofbolt in terms of stability.

It is well known fact that all rocks exhibit brittle properties and time depends strain properties (creep). An understanding of the time dependent deformation behaviour of rocks is believed to be essential in the field of civil and tunnelling. The rock and concrete creep in various forms of loading conditions and physical environment are reviewed. A comparison of creep behaviour between rocks and concrete is provided, in order to bring two existing relatively independent methods of predicting creep strain closer together. It was felt that the physical process in the creep of rocks would be similar to the process in creep of concrete. Since experiments and observations have shown that non-elastic (creep) mechanical behaviour of all crystalline solids (i.e., concrete, rocks, ceramics and refractories) and single materials have a common base. Also a comparison of the results for the accepted methods of estimating creep in rocks and concrete under - multiaxial loading was attempted to extend the knowledge of deformational characteristics of these two materials.

Creep behaviors of the solder balls in a flip chip package assembly during thermal cycling test is investigated.. A material models used in the finite element analysis are viscoplastic model introduced by Anand and creep model called partitioned model. Experiment of two temperature cycles using moir$\acute{e}$ interferometry is conducted to verify the reliability of material models for the analysis of thermo-mechanical behavior. Bending deformations of the assemblies and average strains of the solder balls due to temperature change and dwell time are investigated. The results show that time-dependent shear strain of solder by the partitioned model is in excellent agreement with those by moir$\acute{e}$ interferometry, while there is considerable difference between results by Anand model and experiment. In this paper, the partitioned model is employed for the time-dependent creep analysis of the FC-PBGA package. It is also shown that the thermo-mechanical stress becomes relaxed by creep behavior at high temperature during temperature cycles.

Recently, to prevent explosive spalling of high-strength concrete (HSC) members, the usage of nylon fiber instead of polypropylene fiber has increased. Past experimental studies have been conducted to examine the spalling and mechanical properties of HSC with nylon fibers when exposed to elevated temperature. However, the previous studies on HSC with nylon fibers subjected to high temperatures were performed only on the properties such as spalling, compressive strength, and elastic modulus rather than investigations on to the behaviors such as thermal strain, total strain, steady state creep, and transient creep. Therefore, in this study thermal strain, total strain, steady state creep, and transient creep of HSC mixed with nylon fibers with water to binder ratio of 0.30 to 0.15 were tested. The experimental results showed that nylon fibers did not affect the performance of HSC with nylon fibers at high temperatures. However, HSC with nylon fibers generated a larger transient creep strain than that of HSC without fibers and normal strength concrete.

This study analyzes the characteristics of creep deformation behavior of weathered granite soils used in road embankments. The creep strain under the unconfined compressive state demonstrated an excellent agreement with the theoretical analysis of the burgers substance. The elastic deformation showed a termination in its characteristics after a long-term period owing to the increase in applied loads. The primary creep strain was 0.0028 and concluded that the deformation completed within $3{\sim}5$ days after applying the loads. Also, the completing time of creep deformation in the embankment soils increased in proportion to the height of embankment soils. The secondary creep strain is about 50% of the primary creep strain.
Investigation of the time-dependent behavior of rock and the associated mechanisms are of key interest in long-term stability analysis of many engineering applications. In this study, creep tests were performed on Daejeon granite samples of 25.4mm diameter under uniaxial compression at varying stress levels. The effect of moisture was investigated by testing both air-dried and fully water-saturated samples. The creep behavior of Daejeon granite exhibited three distinctive stages of primary, secondary and tertiary creep. The ultimate strength of granite under a constant stress decreased considerably with time. Saturation and immersion of the test specimen in water markedly increased the total creep strain as well as the secondary creep rate. The experimental creep curves are fitted to Burger's model as well as two other empirical models suggested by previous researchers. A number of the parameters determined for each model are dependent on stress and influenced by the presence of water. Based on the experimental results, an empirical relation between the applied stress and the time-dependent strain is established separately for each air-dried and fully water-saturated Daejeon granite.
Understanding of a creep behavior in rocks under a constant load, due to visco-elastic properties of rock, is an essential element to predict a long term ground deformation. In order to clarify the creep characteristics of the mudstone in Duho formation at Pohang basin, deposited during Tertiary, a series of laboratory tests including physical properties, unconfined compressive strength and uniaxial creep tests, was performed. The mudstone showed a higher creep potential due to 26% of clay minerals such as illite and chlorite. The unconfined compressive strength of the rock was $462{\;}kg/\textrm{cm}^2$ in average, and four creep tests were performed under constant stress of 40 to 70 % of the strength. The creep constants in the empirical and theoretical equations were deduced from the time-strain curves obtained from the tests. Among the several equations, the empirical equation proposed by Griggs and theoretical equation of Burger’s model are appreciated as the best one to express the creep behavior of the mudstone. Instantaneous elastic strain was linearly increased with stress level but strain velocity during the first creep is decreased with a similar pattern by time lapse regardless the stress level.

Most clays under sustained load exhibit time-dependent deformation because of creep movement of soil particles and many investigators have attempted to relate their findings to the creep behavior of natural ground and to the long-term stability of slopes. Since the creep behavior of clays may assume a variety of forms depending on such factors as soil plasticity, activity and water content, it is difficult and complicated to analyse the creep behavior of clays. Rheological models composed of linear springs in combination with linear or nonlinear dashpots and sliders, are generally used for the mathematical description of the time-dependent behavior of soils. Most rheological models, however, have been proposed to simulate the behavior of secondary compression for saturated clays and few definitive data exist that can evaluate the behavior of non-saturated clays under the action of sustained stress. The clays change gradually from a solid state through plastic state to a liquid state with increasing water content, therefore, the rheological models also change. On the other hand, creep is time-dependent, and also the effect of thixotropy is time-function. Consequently, there may be certain correlations between creep behavior and the effects of thixotropy in compacted clays. In addition, the states of clay depend on water content and hence the height of the specimen under drained conditions. Futhermore, based on present and past studies, because immediate elastic deformation occurs instantly after the pressure increment without time-delayed behavior, the factor representing immediate elastic deformations in the rheological model is necessary. The investigation described in this paper, based on rheological model, is designed to identify the immediate elastic deformations and the effects of thixotropy and height of clay specimens with varing water content and stress level on creep deformations. For these purposes, the uniaxial drain-type creep tests were performed. Test results and data for three compacted clays have shown that a linear top spring is needed to account for immediate elastic deformations in the rheological model, and at lower water content below the visco-plastic limit, the effects of thixotropy and height of clay specimens can be represented by the proposed rheological model not considering the effects. Therefore, the rheological model does not necessitate the other factors representing these effects. On the other hand, at water content higher than the visco-plastic limit, although the state behavior of clays is visco-plastic or viscous flow at the beginning of the test, the state behavior, in the case of the lower height sample, does not represent the same behavior during the process of the test, because of rapid drainage. In these cases, the rheological model does not coincide with the model in the case of the higher specimens.
The time-dependent behaviour of rock is very important characteristics which can be utilized as basic input data for underground mine design or in predicting a long-term stability of underground rock mass structures. In this study, creep tests under uniaxial compression were carried out for the granite specimens sampled in Gagok Mine. Burgers model, Griggs and Singh creep laws were used to simulate the measured creep strain. Through comparing the measured creep behaviour with the approximated creep behaviors from Burgers model, Griggs and Singh creep laws, it is shown that Griggs creep law results in the best approximation of granite in Gagok Mine.
