  • This paper compares the curricula in 1985 and those in 1993 of nine Department of Library and Information Science. The Comparison may be claimed as a curriculum comparison between the Departments of Library Science and the Departments of Library and Information Science. The purpose of the comparison is to find out the differences of the curricula provided between the 1980s and the 1990s. The differences are expected to show the trends of library education and the reasons which have caused them to ha n.0, ppen. Before comparing, some theoretical backgrounds of curriculum developments as well as the curriculum changes in the United States of America and in Korea have been described. For the purpose of the study, the numbers of subjects, compulsory and elective, along with credits, the subjects included in the curricula, and the distributions of the subjects have been compared. Some differences are found between the periods, but they are not so distinctive as expected. The most notable change is an increase of subjects on information science and technology. Based on the findings, a few suggestions, which include that subjects dealing with library use and services need to be increased, are recommended.

  • The paper describes the process and issues encountered during the design and construction of seven kilometres of canal to convey 2.5 cumecs of flow to two power stations. The location of the scheme above the primary reservoir of the Waipori Hydropower scheme in Otago, New Zealand, utilising an existing stream diversion into this reservoir, means that no new water abstraction or diversion consents were required. This mini hydro development associated with the existing Waipori scheme was partly justified by an allocation of carbon credits. The scheme controls are slightly more complicated than many canal and penstock schemes as the canal lengths are considerable in relation to the gradient.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the basic materials for enhancing the professionalism of 51 infant/toddler teachers through in-depth interview about the actual condition of child care centers. The results were as follows: First, the infant/toddler teachers got less credits of young child care and education subjects than day care teachers did. The current criteria for qualification of infant/toddler teachers was not appropriate for providing the child care services. An efficient and substantial curriculum must be designed to facilitate the day care services for infant/toddler teachers. Second, the infant/toddler teachers recognized that their roles were similar to child care teachers. The curriculum and practice must encourage and nurture the characters, beliefs, and dispositions of infant/toddler teachers. Third, it is necessary to review the various problems to enhance the professionalism of infant/toddler teachers. Several suggestions for enhancing the professionalism are discussed.

  • The marginal nuclear criticality analysis for the high density spent fuel storage at a PWR plant was carried out by using the HELIOS and CASMO-3 codes. More than 20 % of the calculated reactivity saving effect is observed in this analysis. This mainly comes from the adoption of some important fission products and B-10 in the criticality analysis. By taking burnup and boron credits, the high capacity of the spent fuel storage rack can be more fully utilized, reducing the space of storage. Larger storage for a given inventory of spent fuel should result in remarkable cost savings and mort importantly reduce the risks to the public and occupational workers.

  • To internalize climate-related external costs from agricultural production and food consumption Pigou taxes and carbon credits increase private costs for food. Voluntary GHG reduction program for carbon-neutral food can be advantageous over such policy measures since they avoid higher food prices for the poor. The pilot project of low-carbon agriculture certification system is to reduce GHG emissions from agricultural production and enhance the competitiveness of domestic agricultural products. This study examines producers', distributors', and consumers' perceptions of the low-carbon agriculture certification system and analyzes alternatives to promote the low-carbon certificated agricultural products.

  • In this paper, I examined the terms of letter of credit and standard for examination of documents. In connection with the test of standard, I reviewed the bank's reasonable care, inconsistence and linkage between documents, non-documentary conditions and the treatment of discrepant documents. Traditionally credit law is founded on two principles such as the standards of strict of compliance and substantial compliance, but these standards are not consistency. Moreover although the Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits(UCP) introduces a new standard for examination of documents by incorporating international banking practice, the standards for documentary compliance have created ambiguity. Accordingly, I suggest that the standard requires strict compliance between party concerned in letter of credit transactions but only requires international standard banking practice in customer relationship. Therefore the standard and the specific guideline should be prescribed in the next version of the UCP.

  • Insurance lawyers have been curiously uninterested in the legal aspects of the use of insurance in export sales. It is an area which shows several doubtful points and some difficulties. According to the law of international sales and commercial credits, the primary question is whether the insurance contracts and documents that are produced satisfy the requirements of the sales and the credit contracts. From the point of view of insurance law, the question is how the insurance arrangements can be made to fit those requirements. The purpose of this study is to review problems that may occur in insuring cargoes in export sales.

  • The International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) eUCP came into force on 1 April 2002. The eUCP is a supplement to the current existing Uniform Customs and Practice for Documentary Credits (UCP500), which governs the use of electronic presentation. The eUCP is not a revision of the UCP. It is a supplement intended to deal with situations where presentations are made electronically. That is to say, the eUCP is a supplement to the UCP that, when used in conjunction with the UCP, will provide the necessary rules for the presentation of the electronic equivalents of paper documents under letters of credit. The purpose of this paper is to study on the criterion of examination of electronic records under the eUCP.
