  • This study aims to investigate the effect of the application of the brain-based learning model on the self-efficacy, creative problem-solving ability, and academic achievement of elementary school students in science classes. The participants consisted of 22 students from one class (experimental group) and 22 students from another class (comparison group) of J Elementary School in B Metropolitan city. The experimental group conducted science classes that applied the brain-based learning model, and the comparison group conducted general explanatory science classes according to textbooks and the guide books of the teachers. The study found that science classes that applied the brain-based learning model exerted positive effects on the three abovementioned skills. Based on the results, the study confirmed that the application of the model is an effective learning tool that increases the self-efficacy, creative problem-solving ability, and academic achievement of for elementary school students in science classes.

  • This paper examines port redevelopment and urban regeneration projects of foreign advanced countries and investigates policy implications to apply to Korean port cities. Busan and Incheon have started to redevelop old port facilities located near old city centers and they have been faced several problems. Significant findings are found from the experiences of Inner Harbor in Baltimore, Darling Harbor in Sydney, Hafencity in Hamburg, Eastern Dockland in Amsterdam and Minatomirai 21 in Yokohama etc. At first, port and city have to be integrated to an unique regeneration project in order to solve the spatially disconnected problems originated from separate development in the initial stage. Preservation of historical regional assets is highly recommended to characterize its own value which is emphasized in the age of post modernism. Accurate and consistent design guidelines of port cities are stressed to build high standard cities. In the perspective of investigating a new business model, anchor facilities and place marketing strategies are introduced to induce more people to the place specially in the beginning stage. In addition, creative financing methods and competent implementing bodies are emphasized to running the projects stably regardless of real estate market status.

  • A lot of city have different characteristics in their location, space and environment each other. These characters are the factors showing inherent placeness of each space, and those factors should be reflected sufficiently in urban planning and development. Nonetheless, there are many parts that are not actually reflected in the plan, and this creates a space of unexpected arming. Especially, port area in a port city has strong characteristics of culture, history, geography and environment of the city concerned so it must make more creative and unique space. Therefore, it is considered that not only the physical factors but also the social factors should be actively reflected to highlight the place character of the port space. In this paper we are to construct the factors forming the placeness of port space based on the Form Based Codes rising as a flexible urban planning method in order to avoid rigidity of existing use district zoning system, and establish the placeness character of each port area.

  • Empathy is the ability to feel, understand, and respond to the emotions of others from the standpoint of others. Recently, 'sympathy' has emerged as an important issue not only in emotional empathy in relation to individuals but also in 'social empathy', which sees sympathy as a basic principle for maintaining society. This study focuses on the issue of empathy as a new driving force for modern society and focused on 'urban scene' as a spatial application for cultural empathy in the city. Urban scenes approach the city as a space of consumption, classify it according to its inherent attributes, and analyze its characteristics. This study approaches the existing urban scene theory in terms of empathy. In addition, as a way to consume city images reflected on contents, a concrete example of 'contents tourism'is examined, and a 'contents scene' is proposed as a new urban scene and its meaning and possibility are presented.

  • Woolf s preoccupation with the interplay between gender, commercialism, and the modern city is exposed in higher relief by her feminist remapping of the city through a discourse of fl nerie, which is epitomized in her singular urban travelogues such as Street Haunting and The London Scene essays. A fanatical London-adventurer herself, she assumes the persona of the fl neuse in exploring the street of modern London and especially the public sphere of the marketplace, as represented in Oxford Street Tide. Living and working in the quarter of Bloomsbury, in close proximity to the capital s famous sites of tourism, entertainment, and mass consumption, Woolf was placed at the heart of urban spectacle. In spite of the lack of critical analysis of this high-profile writer s interest in such quotidian matters as shopping, fashion and appearance, which would be informed by a hierarchy of value within literary criticism, it seems that they are inextricably intertwined with her quest into more serious-minded topics that revolve around the twin pillars of her literary project: feminism and modernism. Her essays, in particular, suggest this point in one way or another, mirroring her extraordinary susceptibility to such concerns. For Woolf, street sauntering is synonymous with an act of creative mobility, by which she plays with the notion of shifting identities, rediscovers the urban rarities and splendors, and ultimately pins them down in her literary output. By adopting the identity of a masterly rambler/observer/explorer with an omnipotent gaze, she firmly anchors herself as an active interpreter of urban modernity and viewer of its spectacle. She thus challenges the idea of public space as a male domain, which is central to the classic androcentric discourse of loitering, spectatorship and urban modernity.

  • Remote sensing allows automatic and continual spatial data acquisition. However, it is powerless to accumulate spatial data from the past. On the other hand, social and human scientists have already created rich academic descriptions of the past with fragmentary images, but without accurate geo-references. Such a legacy of information will eventually become useless, regardless of its importance or the researcher's passion. There is thus an urgent need to help assemble the lifetime research results of social scientists, so that future generations can easily access them.

  • In the modern ages when the surroundings of a city has become firm and monotonous this study designed to suggest an direction towards creative approaches to space planning by analyzing the images of interior space with the introduction of natural expressions as an alternative to create original space in order to give vitality to the previous standardized space and to satisfy human beings psychological desire. The results of the analysis as a way of expressing direct indirect and eclectic images using nature a source of arts read that most of the natural expressions show perceptive images strongly that natural elements can become the elements of design in any form and that nature's images are expressed by not only natural and artificial materials. In conclusion natural expression in interior space does not have any fixed form of expression but gives a great deal of vocabulary to the image formation of interior space by stimulating being's sentiment with the spatial restructure of nature's own particular order of form.

  • The subjects of this study were 172 5-year-old children enrolled in a kindergarten located in Daejeon city. Instruments were the K-ABC(1997) to test children's intelligence and the TTCT(1999) to test children's creativity, Data were analyzed by Pearson's R and Canonical R. Results indicated that the relation between K-ABC IQ and TTCT CQ was statistically significant(r=.292, p<.000). This result is at variance with threshold theory where the correlation between intelligence and creativity is predicted to be high for children with IQ below 120, but above that level, the correlations are predicted to be much lower. A significant canonical function(Wilk's =.760, p<.000) was found between the sequential processing scale, achievement scale of K-ABC and elaborateness, resistance to premature closure of TTCT.

Research subjects were 159 nursing students in G city. The tool used in this study was Collegiate Students Essential Skills Assessment developed by the KW University. The 6 areas measured with the tool are: humanities, Humanism, self-directedness, creative competence, practice competence and global competence. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Scheffe' test and pearson's correlation coefficient using SPSS WIN 18.0 Program. There were significant differences in core competence according to university admission types. But There were significant differences in academic achievement according to university admission types. And significant positive correlation between academic achievement and core competece was not founded. But significant positive correlation of 6 core competencies were founded. Based on the result of this study, it is possible to serve basic data for establishing better university admission type.
