  • This study suggested a digital curation framework for supporting the digital policy of institutes that collect memory. As such, it conducted a literature review and an analysis of digital curation models, as well as a focus-group interview of historians and graduate students majoring in historical studies. In this study, digital curation framework refers to an abstract model for supporting policy development and the planning for a high-level view of the archival information service. This implications of this framework are as follows: (1) to emphasize the data life cycle and connection between stages and actions; (2) to make an infra-schema for understanding institutes that create, arrange, or store specific data as the same history contents have to be provided by different institutes and as there are differences in the data's value; (3) to check the present conditions of information services and their systems; (4) to consider the practical applications of contents that have been collected and stored; and (5) to converge all data in one system through the framework and activate diverse works in the context of the framework.

  • A collection policy (or a collection development policy) is a document that archival institutions must have to allow them to build their collections legitimately and consistently. Digital archives often lack sustainable financial and systematic supports. Thus, it is especially important for digital archives to have a policy for consistent collection activities. Digital archives have a different set of characteristics from physical records, and these characteristics should be considered in a collection policy. This study was initiated to create such a policy for the No Gun Ri Digital Archive. It reviewed existing literature for collection policies in archives and digital archives. Moreover, it examined several cases of digital archives and their policies to identify the necessary elements as well as the legal and procedural coverages for digital content and services. Furthermore, it studied the unique characteristics of the No Gun Ri incident and the No Gun Ri Digital Archive. Based on such investigation, a collection policy for the No Gun Ri Digital Archive was suggested. It is believed that suggesting a practical collection policy will provide a useful precedent for future digital archive projects.

In current educational practice in secondary home economics curriculum, the employed goal and the nature of home economics are neither stated specifically nor closely interrelated. This problem has led us not being able to achieve pursuing goal of home economics education and to employ appropriate teaching methods. In view of this situation, the purpose of this study was to propose a lesson plan reflecting the contents and teaching methods to overcome difficulties and inefficiency in the current practice of secondary home economics education. The theoretical background of the lesson plan was based on the Marjorie M. Brown’s philosophy of home economics which can be summerized as follows: 1. • Purposes: The purpose is to establish the direction of healthcare R&D through private nonprofit organization. Methodology: The data is divided into two groups: 12 physicians and pharmacists, and 16 persons including professors related to university donation, non-profit foundation executives. Each group was subjected to two Delphi surveys. To analyze the validity of the opinion, the content validity ratio and the consensus of experts were verified. Findings: Funding should be invested in 'development research' and 'application research'. The factors that hinder the donation culture are 'donation prevention system such as tax imposition system and rebate double penalty system', 'insufficient motivation of fund raising person', and 'lack of fund specializing specialist'. The fund raising strategy should be centered on a small number of large donors or a balance between large and small donors. The fund raising target should be effective to raise funds for corporate and individual donors. It is necessary to clarify the purpose of the social problem to be solved by the campaign strategy for promoting donation, to announce the validity of the trust and transparency of the institution, and to emphasize the social investment by the private sector. Practical Implications: It is necessary to present directions through private nonprofit organizations for the future development of healthcare R&D. The legal and institutional deficiencies of the domestic nonprofit organization fundraising infrastructure should be improved. In order to create a social investment climate, it is necessary to improve the awareness of donations and develop various donation programs for the private sector.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to calculate the total daily nursing workload and the optimum number of nurses per intensive care unit (ICU) based on the nursing intensity and the direct nursing time per inpatient using the patient classification. Methods: Two ICUs at one general hospital were investigated. To calculate the nursing intensity, patient classification according to the nursing needs was conducted for 10 days in each unit during September 2018. We performed patient classifications for a total of 167 patient-days in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) and 86 patient-days in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). The total number of person-days for nurses who responded to the Nursing Time survey was 151 for MICU and 85 for SICU. In each unit, direct and non-direct nursing hours, nursing intensity score, and direct nursing hours were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency, percentage, and average calculated using Microsoft Excel. The amount of nursing workload and the optimum number of nurses were calculated according to the formula developed by the authors. Findings: For the MICU, the average direct nursing time per patient was 5.59 hours for Group 1, 6.98 hours for Group 2, and 9.28 hours for Group 3. For the SICU, the average direct nursing time per patient was 5.43 hours for Group 1, 7.21 hours for Group 2, 9.75 hours for Group 3, and 12.82 hours for Group 4. Practical Implications: This study confirmed that the appropriate number of nurses was not secured in the nursing unit of this study, and that leisure time such as meal time during nursing work hours was not properly guaranteed. The findings suggest that to create working environments where nurses can serve for extended periods of time without compromising their professional standards, hospitals should secure an appropriate number of nurses.

  • In this article we describe our preliminary work to create VR interactive storytelling particularly for building empathic relationships between the reader (or the player) and story characters. As a practical guideline for developing empathy-based VR interactive story, we propose four key factors: first, narrativity considering narrative theories and concepts including the notion of focalization by Gerald Genette; second, interactivity for balancing between narrative and player control in interactive storytelling domain; third, consideration of virtual reality in human computer interaction domain; fourth, empathy in narrative from the viewpoint of psychology and cognitive science. We also introduce an example interactive storytelling scenario based on Little Red Riding Hood story. Finally we conclude with our VR implementation using Unreal game engine and HTC Vive.

  • The web is shifting from being a medium in which information is transmitted and consumed, into being a platform in which contents are created, shared, repurposed. Web 2.0 applications are those that make the most of the intrinsic advantages of that platform. This thesis proposed a learning system based on web 2.0 for promoting statistics literacy. For this, I proposed students to create UCC(User Created Contents) data to learn principle of statistics and practical use of statistical data. To examine educational effectiveness of this study, an experimental study was conducted through the education content and method to the subject of one class in the first-grade of university located in OO city. As a result, the student understanded basic principle on statistics and perceived importance of statistics literacy and presented positive responses to statistics. In conclusion, it is confirmed that it is possible to provide effective education for students if the statistics literacy is proposed to proper education method.

  • The unconscious and non-intrusive measurements of activity signals or physiological signals represent important enabling technologies for realizing a ubiquitous healthcare environment as well as a related UI. Particularly, non-intrusive measurements should be used in activity monitoring system for long-term monitoring. This paper is based on activity estimation by measuring the activity signals of a user using a handhold device with an accelerometer. The user activity estimation system (UAES) presented in this paper makes non-intrusive measurements of activity signals to minimize inconveniencing a user and to create a more practical implementation in real life. Thus, a variety of positions in which the handhold device can be carried by a user for daily use is considered, such as in the front/hip/shirt pockets, a backpack, on the waist, and in the hand.
