A study on effects of water-cement ratio and crack width on chloride ion transmission rate in concrete

  • To study the effects of water-cement ratio changes and cracks on chloride ion transmission rate in cracked concrete, RCM method was adopted to accelerate the diffusion of chloride ion in cracked concrete, and the changes in chloride ion concentration and around the cracks are inferred by finite-element method. The test results show that as far as prefabricated cracks on concrete components are concerned, the width thresholds of two cracks on the concrete specimens with a water-cement ratio of 0.5 and 0.6 are 0.05 mm and 0.1 mm respectively, the width threshold of two cracks on the concrete specimens with a water-cement ratio of 0.4 is 0.05 mm and 0.2 mm respectively; and the results of numerical simulation show that the smaller the water-cement ratio is, the more significant effects of cracks on chloride ion transmission rate are. As a result, more attention shall be paid to the crack prevention, repairing and strengthening for high-strength concrete.

알루미늄 합금 피로 스트라이에이션의 나노 스케일 관찰 (Nano-Scale Observation of Fatigue Striations for Aluminum Alloy)

  • Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) was used to study cross sectional profiles and dimensions of fatigue striations in 2017-T351 aluminum alloy. Their widths(SW) and heights (SH, SH(sub)h, SH(sub)ι) were measured from the cross sectional profiles of three-dimension AFM images. The following results that will be helpful to understand the fatigue crack growth mechanism were obtained. (1) The relation of SH=$\alpha$(SW)(sup)1.2 was obtained. (2) The ratio of the striation height to its width SH/SW, SH(sub)h/SW and SH(sub)ι/SW did not depend on the stress intensity factor range ΔK and the stress ratio R( =P(sub)min/P(sub)max = K(sub)min/K(sub)max). (3) Effect of precipitate on the morphology of striation was changed by the relative dimensional difference between the striation width SW and the precipitates. From these results, the applicability of the AFM to nano-fractography is discussed.

혼합모드 하중하의 A5052 합금판재에서의 피로시험에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fatigue Test in A5052 Alloy Sheet Under Mixed Mode Loading)

  • In this paper, for the mixed mode fatigue problem, the method of determining testing load was proposed. It is based on the plastic zone size and the limited maximum stress intensity factor by ASTM STANDARD E 647-00. The application method of maximum tangential stress criterion and the stress intensity factor for the finite width specimen was proposed. In the result of applying the method to mixed mode fat gut test for A5052 H34, it obtained the satisfactory experimental results on the stable crack growth.

  • As the concept of the smart structure, monitoring of acoustic emission (AE) can be applied to inspect the fracture of the entire structure in operating condition using built-in sensors. The objective of this study is to find the characteristics of matrix crack signals in composites due to the different specimen shapes. To detect matrix crack signals, we performed tensile tests by changing the thickness, width and length of the specimen. For the quantitative evaluation, time frequency analysis such as short-time Fourier transform (STFT) was used to characterize the matrix crack signals from PZT sensor. The experimental result shows the distinctive signal features in frequency domain due to the different specimen shapes.

CCT 시험편을 이용한 저탄소강의 J 저항곡선에 관한 연구 (A Study on J-Resistance Curve of Low-Carbon Steel Using Center Cracked Tension Specimen)

  • In this paper, the I-resistance curve of low-carbon steel with 3 mm thickness was investigated for various crack ratios. The experiments were carried out for the center cracked tension (CCT) specimen with about 50 mm width on an instron machine. The plane stress fracture toughness obtained by the Simpson's formula was Ii. = 24.96 kgffmm. Simpson's formula which considers crack growth in obtaining J integral showed more conservative lin than Rice's and Sumpter's. For materials that may be approximated by the Ramberg and Osgood stress strain law, the relevant crack parameters like the J integral, load line displacement are approximately normalized. Crack driving forces in terms of the I integral are computed for low-carbon steel CCT specimen using the above estimation scheme. Comparison of the prediction with actual experimental measurements by Simpson's formula showed good agreement for several different sized specimen.

Behavior and crack development of fiber-reinforced concrete spandrel beams under combined loading: an experimental study

  • An experimental investigation is conducted to examine the behavior and cracking of steel fiberre-inforced concrete spandrel L-shaped beams subjected to combined torsion, bending, and shear. The experimental program includes 12 medium-sized L-shaped spandrel beams organized into two groups, namely, specimens with longitudinal reinforcing bars, and specimens with bars and stirrups. All cases are examined with 0%, 1%, and 1.5% steel fiber volume fractions and tested under two different loading eccentricities. Test results indicate that the torque to shear ratio has a significant effect on the crack pattern developed in the beams. The strain on concrete surface follows the crack width value, and the addition of steel fibers reduces the strain. Fibrous concrete beams exhibited improved overall torsional performance compared with the corresponding non-fibrous control beams, particularly the beams tested under high eccentricity.

  • Auto injector grouting method as low pressure injected by using epoxy and Boyle's law is very excellent method in economical efficiency and construction work because injected process can be dealt with collectively. For estimation of filling capacity purpose of this study compared the Auto injector method with the piston injector method. In this study, the tests allow for width of crack, injected angle of epoxy resin and injected method were performed using concrete block specimen making artificial crack. The results of test, tilling et1iciency of epoxy by Auto Injector grouting method verify to better than the piston injector method and uniaxial strength increased about 11% than standard specimen.

  • 본 연구는 휨 재의 균열손상 특성을 개선하기 위하여 개발된 팽창형 SHCC의 구조적인 적용에 관한 기초연구이다. 본 논문에서는 총 4개의 단순 지지된 철근콘크리트 슬래브에 대한 실험결과를 근거로 하며 본 실험에서 고려된 변수는 SHCC 종류와 SHCC 두께이다. 이러한 실험변수에 따른 최대 휨 강도, 초기균열하중, 균열폭 및 간격 그리고 하중-변위 관계곡선에 대하여 비교 분석하여 각 실험변수 의 영향을 평가하였다.

  • This paper describes an experimental study on the crack and fracture behavior of the FRC column. The test were carried out as Fiber contents in the Steel Fiber Reinforced Concrete and addition of Polypropylene Fiber in PFRC for evaluate the ability of ductility. In this study, the width and size of crack reduced remarkably and the progress of cracks were restrained by the steel fiber contents increasing, and in the case of PFRC the occurrence of initial crack reduced conspicuously. Accordingly, the addition of steel fiber in Reinforced Concrete Columns considerably prevent an unexpected buckle and rupture, secure durability and stability of columns.
