소결치차의 피로강도평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fatigue Strength Evaluation of Sintered Spur Gears)

  • It is very important to have exact informations on the properties and characteristics of the sintered steel as a new material of machine elements. The bending fatigue tests are performed for the sintered steel bend specimens of various densities 6.6 to 7.0 g/$cm^3$ and the sintered spur gear to consisted of Fe-Cu-C. The fatigue test at a constant stress amplitude is performed by using an electrohydraulic servo-controlled pulsating tester. Consequently, the S-N curves are obtained. The fatigue strength S for fatigue life N of the specimen with the initial length of crack ai is simulated, and they are shown as N-S-A curves.   • It has been well known that ductile fracture of steels are accelerated by triaxial stresses. The characteristics of ductile crack initiation in steels are evaluated quantitatively using two-parameters criterion based on equivalent plastic strain and stress triaxiality. The present study focuses on the effects of strength mismatching, which can elevate plastic constraint due to heterogeneous plastic straining, on critical condition to initiate ductile crack from notch root using equivalent plastic strain and stress triaxiality. In this study evaluate the criterion for ductile crack initiation in strength mismatch specimen effect of location of notch root.

  • The fracture characteristics of unidirectional composite single-lap bonded joints were investigated experimentally and numerically. The effects of bonding method, surface roughness, bondline thickness and the existence of fillet on the failure characteristics and strength of bonded single-lap joints were evaluated experimentally. The failure process, failure mode and the behavior of load-displacement curve was apparently different according to bonding method. The failure load of the specimen co-cured without adhesive was definitely superior to other types of specimens but the specimens co-cured with adhesive film had a less strength than secondary bonded specimens. In the secondary bonded specimens, the lower value of surface roughness and existence of fillet improved the strength of specimens. The strain energy release rates calculated by geometric nonlinear finite element analyses and Virtual Crack Closure Technique for the secondary bonded specimens considering the three types of initial cracks - comer crack, edge crack and delamination crack - were consistent with the test results.

  • 본 논문은 중간부 부착파괴된 CFRP 보강 RC 보의 휨강도 산정을 다루고 있다. CFRP 보강 RC 보의 중간부 부착파괴의 영향을 고려하기 위해 강도감소계수를 제안하였다. 제안된 계수는 CFRP의 유효응력(또는 유효변형률)과 극한응력(또는 극한변형률)비로 정의 되는 유효변률 모델을 이용하여 실험데이터로부터 유도하였다. 휨강도 산정식은 강도감소계수를 변수로 하여 함수를 구성하였다. 제안된 강도감소계수의 유효성, 정확성 및 타당성을 입증하기 위해서 각국의 설계기준 및 연구자들에 의해 제안된 계수 값과 실험값을 본 연구결과와 비교 및 검증했다. 본 논문에서 제시하는 해석 결과는 제안된 강도감소계수가 중간부 부착파괴된 CFRP 보강 RC 보의 휨강도를 매우 효율적으로 평가할 수 있음을 나타낸다.

초기강도 섬유보강 콘크리트의 수축특성 (Shrinkage Properties of High Early Strength Fiber Reinforced Concrete)

  • The shrinkage properties of high early strength concrete were investigated. One of the method to control microcrack and crack development due to restrained shrinkage is to reinforce concrete with randomly distributed fibers. Regulated-set cement and two different types of fiber were adopted. The experiments for heat of hydration, drying and autogenous shrinkage were conducted. The desirable resistance of high early strength fiber reinforced concrete to restrained shrinkage microcracking was achieved. These results indicate that use of fiber in high early strength concrete plays an important role in control of crack development due to restrained shrinkage.

  • This research is related to the experimental investigation of the inelastic behavior of R/C columns with high strength concrete. A total of eight specimens have been tested with different span ratios, steel reinforcements and load applications. Through tests bending moments were applied incrementally while axial forces being kept constantly at 80 tons. Careful observation were given to initial crack formation, crack patterns and propagation paths. Comparative studies have been made on the load carrying capacity for R/C columns with high strength concrete versus normal strength concrete.

Residual static strength of cracked concrete-filled circular steel tubular (CFCST) T-joint

  • Concrete-filled circular t steel tubular joints (CFSTJs) in practice are frequently subjected to fluctuated loadings caused by wind, earthquake and so on. As fatigue crack is sensitive to such cyclic loadings, assessment on performance of CFSTJs with crack-like defect attracts more concerns because both high stress concentration at the brace/chord intersection and welding residual stresses along weld toe cause the materials in the region around the intersection to be more brittle. Once crack initiates and propagates along the weld toe, tri-axial stresses in high gradient around the crack front exist, which may bring brittle fracture failure. Additionally, the stiffness and the load carrying capacity of the CFSTJs with crack may decrease due to the weakened connection at the intersection. To study the behaviour of CFSTJs with initial crack, experimental tests have been carried out on three full-scale CFCST T-joints with same configuration. The three specimens include one uncracked joint and two corresponding cracked joints. Load-displacement and load-deformation curves, failure mode and crack propagation are obtained from the experiment measurement. According to the experimental results, it can be found that he load carrying capacity of the cracked joints is decreased by more than 10% compared with the uncracked joint. The effect of crack depth on the load carrying capacity of CFCST T-joints seems to be slight. The failure mode of the cracked CFCST T-joints represents as plastic yielding rather than brittle fracture through experimental observation.

섬유망을 이용한 RC슬래브의 균열제어 (The Crack Control of Fiber Net Reinforced RC Slab)

  • Severe cracks on Reinforced Concrete (RC) structures caused by structural displacement can be often one of the main reasons for the degradation of tensile and flexural rigidities of RC structures and for the deterioration of durability and serviceability of RC structures through accelerated steel corrosion. These combined factors adversely affect the performance of RC concrete, leading to shortened life time of RC structures. In consideration of these problems, we conducted 3 point bending experiments by employing three different types of concrete specimens: fiber-net reinforced concrete (FNRC), polypropylene-fiber reinforced concrete (PFRC), and plain concrete (PC). FNRC is well known for its strong corrosion resistance, light self-weight, and excellent tensile strength, while PFRC is known to be effective in crack control. FNRC was found to have the best first and final crack resistances followed by PFRC and PC, as evidenced by the highest initial crack load and the smallest final crack width, respectively. The FNRC specimens with various tensile strength of fiber net exhibited greater ultimate strengths than those for PFRC and PC. Furthermore, the crack widths of FNRC specimens were smaller than those calculated by the crack-width estimation equation of the KCI and ACI code. Therefore, we conclude that fiber net reinforcement is effective not only on crack control, but also on loading share.

  • Tensile strength of soil is one of the important strength parameters in geotechnical engineering. The importance of the tensile strength of soil has been pointed out and given considerable attention in many highway pavements and earthfill dams. Recently, one of tensile strength problems, cracking failure of clay liners which is related to leakage of polluted water has been reported. Thus, the tensile strength of compacted sand-bentonite mixtures, which are used widely in the landfill construction site as clay liners was measured by Improved Unconfined Penetration (IUP) test. In addition, to find out the effects of contamination levels of water on the tensile strength and desiccation crack pattern, different pH levels of water were used for making specimens prepared with three different mixing contents of bentonite.

프로펠러 날개의 피로강도에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Fatigue Strength of Propeller Blades)

  • Recently, to reduce the noise and vibration levels of ships, high skewed marine propellers with thinner thickness are adopted widely, however, such propeller design trend causes to reduce the strength of blades. Propeller blades are rotating continuously in irregular wake field of ships. So, it is necessary to examine the strength of them precisely including from a viewpoint of fatigue strength. In present paper, the fatigue strength of propeller blades was investigated. Firstly, fatigue tests for Al Bronze, the representative propeller material, were carried out. The S-N curve was obtained for the assessment of the fatigue crack initiation life. And the material properties C, m for the fatigue crack propagation analysis based on the Paris' equation were derived. For the 2nd stage, the structural responses of propeller blades in irregular ship wake field was carried out using the finite element analysis code. And the fatigue strength of propeller blades were considered based on the calculated stress levels and material characteristics for fatigue strength.
