Sintering behavior, distribution of dopant oxides and electrical properties in the ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3 and ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3-Cr2O3 systems were studied. The linear shrinkage of ZnO varistors from 850 to 950$^{\circ}C$ was related to the decomposition reaction (py\longrightarrowsp+Bi2O3) of the pyrochlore phase. In the distribution of the dopant oxides (CoO, Sb2O3, Cr2O3), Co distribute uniformly throughout the sample, the distribution of Sb coincided with small particles (spinel phase, Zn7Sb2O12), and Cr distributed very consistently with Sb. The increase in breakdown voltage, due to the addition of Cr2O3, was not only attributed to the decrease in the ZnO grain size but also to the solution of Cr2O3 in the spinel phase. The leakage current (80% V60 ${\mu}\textrm{A}$) was increased by the addition of Cr2O3.
Microstructure and phase changes during the sintering of ZnO varistors were studied in ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3 and ZnO-Bi2O3-CoO-Sb2O3-Cr2O3 systems using acanning electron microscopy (SEM) with an energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDAX), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The spinel phase and the Bi2O3 phase were formed by the decomposition of the pyrochlore phase during heating. The spinel particles (2-4$\mu\textrm{m}$), which were formed both along ther grain boundaries and within the ZnO grain, were always found near the pyrochlore phase. Intergranular phases (Bi2O3 and pyrochlore) were precipitated from the liquid phase during cooling. The Bi2O3 phases were located at the triple (or multiple) point of the ZnO grains. Cr2O3 played a role in decreasing the formation temperature of the spinel phase and Bi2O3 phase during sintering, and inhibited the grain growth.
The microstructure and the electrical conductivity of MgO-doped Cr2O3 were investigated as a function of oxygen partial presure, temperature, and MgO content. The grain size was estimated about 1.0$\mu\textrm{m}$. The solubility limit is increased with oxygen partial pressure. Above the solubility limit of MgO in Cr2O3, the spinel phase(MgCr2O4) is formed by the reaction of MgO and Cr2O3. The electrical conductivity of MgO-doped Cr2O3 within the solubility limit is increased with MgO content. Above the solubility limit, however, it is decreased with increasing MgO content because of the formation of the spinel phase.
The tie lines delineating ion-exchange equilibria between NiFe2O4-NiCr2O4 spinel solid solution and Fe2O3-Cr2O3 corundum solid solution were determined at 900, 1000, and 1200 ℃ by electron microprobe and energy dispersive X-ray analysis of oxide phases, using the flux growth technique. Activities of the spinel components were calculated from the tie lines, assuming Temkin's ideal mixing in the corundum solid solution. The spinel phase could be expressed by a regular solution with negative deviations from ideality. The Gibbs free energies of mixing for spinel solid solution were discussed in terms of the cation distribution model, based on site preference energies and assuming random mixing on both tetrahedral and octahedral sites.

In this study, we have investigated the effects of Cr dopant on the sintering and electrical properties of ZnO-$Sb_2O_3$ (ZS) ceramics for varistor application. Spinel phases including $\alpha-$ and $\beta$-type was formed at ZS system and $\alpha$-spinel was stabilized by Cr doping in ZS system. Densification of ZS and ZSCr system was retarded to $1000^{\circ}C$ by the formation of spinel at $800^{\circ}C$. The morphology and its distribution of spinel phases in ZS system was homogeneous but disturbed by Cr doping. In ZSCr the densification of ZnO compared with ZS system was more retarded by low concentration of Zn interstitial defects induced by Cr doping in addition to the effect of spinel phase formation. The defects in each system were identified as attractive coulombic center (ZS: 0.13 eV, ZSCr: 0.12 eV) and singly charged oxygen vacancy $V_0^{\cdot}$ (ZSCr: 0.33 eV). In all ZS and ZSCr system have week varistor behavior by the formation of double Schottky barrier at grain boundary but its stability of barrier was very sensitive to sintering temperature.
Chromium-doped zinc ferrite nanoparticles with the general formula CryZnFe2-yO4 (y = 0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.075, and 0.1) were synthesized by a surfactant-assisted chemical co-precipitation route using metal nitrate salt precursors. The phase purity and structural parameters were determined by powder X-ray diffraction. The concentration of Cr3+ doped into ZnFe2O4 (ZF) noticeably affected the crystallite size, which was in the range of 22 nm to 36 nm, and all samples showed a single cubic spinel structure without any secondary phase or impurities. The lattice parameter, X-ray density, and skeletal density increased with an increase in the Cr-doping concentration; on the other hand, a decreasing trend was observed for the particle size and porosity. The influence of Cr3+ substitution on ZF magnetic properties were studied under an applied field of 15 kOe. The overall results revealed that the incorporation of a small amount of Cr dopant changed the structural, electrical, and magnetic properties of ZF.
For LiMn2O4 based spinel structures the stoichiometric reaction conditions need be considered carefully because the electrical properties depend on the structural stability. In order to obtain the homogeneous compound the Pechini process was chosen which could obtain a stoichiometry phase even low temperature and dependency of the synthetic condition on structural stability and electrochemical performance was investigated. X-ray diffraction studies showed that the compounds doped with transition metal have smaller lattice constants than those un doped. The dc conductivity was evaluated by a four probe method in the low and high temperature region respectively. The variations of basal spacings for the cathode were detected to be dependent on the extent of current flows (under dc)
The effects of various additives on the microstructures of sintered ZnO varistors were examined. Bi2O3, Sb2O3 and Cr2O3 were added to ZnO step by step to identify the effect of each component. The specimens were prepared by sintering at 110$0^{\circ}C$ and 120$0^{\circ}C$ in ambient atmosphere. In ZnO-Bi2O3-Sb2O3 ternary system, decrease of averge grain size due to antimony oxide addition depends on sintering temperature as well as Bi2O3 content. When Sb2O3 was partly or completely replaced by Cr2O3, grain size was further reduced. A significant amount of pyrochlore phase which was not transformed to spinel and Bi2O3-rich liquid phase seemed to remain during sintering at 110$0^{\circ}C$. Unlike ZnO-Bi2O3-Sb2O3 system, the $\alpha$-spinel phase containing significant amount of Cr did not transform to pyrochlore during furnace cooling. Fine spinel particles around 1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ size were ovserved within ZnO grains and grain boundaries, which were believed to be responsible for grain-growth inhibition in ZnO-Bi2O3-Sb2O3.

This study has been performed to investigate the adhesive slag at GTAW weld zone after FCAW multi-pass welding. The cause of adhesive slag formation was examined using optical microscope, field emission scanning electron microscope(FE-SEM) and XRD analysis. The results obtained in this experiment are summarized as follows. Slag of GTAW weld zone surface during welding were formed by mixing the presence of slag in FCAW weld zone. While the slag cools, Cr-spinel phase were formed due to reactions in slag/metal interface. Also, a Cr moves form the weld metal to the slag to strong affinity between oxide atoms and Cr atoms. Hence, detachability of slag was exacerbated by decreasing the interfacial tensions between slag and weld metal.
As 3V cathode material, a new doping spinel material, LiMn1.6Se0.4O4 powder with a phase-pure polycrystalline was synthesized by a sol-gel method. In spite of Jahn-teller distortion in 3V region($2.4{\sim}3.5V$), the LiMn1.6Se0.4O4 electrode shows no capacity loss. The material in the 3V region initially delivers a discharge capacity of 100mAh/g which increase with cycling to reach 105mAh/g after 90cycles. And 5V cathode material LiNi0.5-xMxMn1.5O4(M=Cr, V, Fe) compounds have been synthesized by sol-gel method. a series of electroactive spinel compounds, LiNi0.5-xMxMn1.5O4(M=Cr, V, Fe) has been studied by crystallographic and electrochemical methods. The material presents only one plateau at around 4.5 V vs. Li/Li+ with a large discharge capacity of 152mAh/g and fairly good cyclability.
