In this study, physico-chemical properties and pollution degree of surface sediments collected at 5 stations(S1~S5) of Incheon H wharf in March 2014 were investigated. From particle size, surface area, XRD and XRF analyses, the sediment samples consisted of similar oxides and minerals. Considering total score of COD, AVS and IL, pollution level ranged between 2 and 3 based on domestic standards. In case of heavy metal contamination, Cd, Ni and Pb were classified as moderately polluted by USEPA standards. However, Cu, Zn and Cr were classified as heavily polluted. With geoaccumulation index value($I_{geo}$), Cd contamination was estimated as class 3. In addition, the calculated enrichment factors of Cd, Pb and Zn were exceeded a value of 1. Site S4 was high as 3.1 in total enrichment factor.

The object of this study was to evaluate the combined toxic interactions of the perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) or perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS) with six heavy metals (Cu, Zn, Cr, Cd, Hg, and Pb). The individual and combined toxic effects were assessed using the Vibrio fischeri assay. In case of the individual toxicity, PFOA was higher toxic than PFOS and toxicity of PFOA and PFOS were lower than heavy metal. In the toxicity of heavy metals, the $Hg^{2+}$ was found to be most toxic followed by $Pb^{2+}$, $Cr^{6+}$, $Cu^{2+}$, $Zn^{2+}$, and $Cd^{2+}$. The combined toxicity of PFOA or PFOS with $Cr^{6+}$ were synergistic effect because the $EC_{50}$ mix values were less than 1 TU. PFOA + $Zn^{2+}$, PFOS + $Zn^{2+}$, PFOA + $Cd^{2+}$ and PFOS + $Cd^{2+}$ produced addictive effect. Except in these case, all of binary mixtures show antagonistic effect. This study proved potential risk of coexistent with perfluorinated compounds and heavy metals in water environment.
For 26 soil series distributed more than 1% among 63 soil series in Jeju Island, natural uncultivated soil samples were collected. For these soils, the chemical speciation of eight heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Cu, Mn, Ni, Pb, V, and Zn) was examined. Further, the Plant Bioavailability (PB) and Mobility Factor (MF) of these heavy metals were evaluated using Tessier's 5-step sequential extraction method (exchangeable, carbonate, reducible (bound to Fe/Mn oxides), oxidizable (bound to organic matter), and residual fraction). The main form present was residual fraction for Cd and Zn; residual and oxidizable fractions for Cr, Cu, Ni, and Pb; reducible fraction for Mn; and carbonate fraction for V. The average plant availability and average mobility factor were found to be V (57.37%) > Zn (12.49%) > Cd (11.76%) > Cu (11.19%) > Pb (9.37%) > Cr (9.09%) > Mn (3.13%) > Ni (2.63%), and Mn (61.04%) > V (59.94%) > Zn (31.54%) > Cd (17.65%) > Cr (15.66%) > Ni (13.89%) > Pb (13.80%) > Cu (13.53%), respectively.

This study was conducted to investigate the heavy metal accumulation in wild plants. The samples from 5 plant species on 14 sites were taken on the roadside where urban and industrial regions in northern Gyeonggi do. Artemisia princeps var. orientalis, Chenopodium album L. var. centrobrum, Erigeron canadensis L., Rumex crispus L. and Taraxacum platycapum H. Dahlst were taken from different parts of the plants gathered in surveyed sites for analysing. This study classified which species were suitable to accumulators, excluders, or indicators which were provided as Phytoremediation for heavy metals(Cd, Cr, Ni, Pb and Zn) and considered the applicability of that work. 1. The mean accumulation of 6 heavy metals in plants was as follows; Zn> Cu> Cr> Pb> Ni> Cd in rows except for Ni and Pb in Erigeron. 2. The highest heavy metal accumulators were Taraxacum and Artemisia. 3. The comparison of heavy metal accumulations between the tops and roots in the plants was as follows; Zn> Cd> Pb> Ni> Cu> Cr. 4. Comparison of heavy metal accumulations between tops and roots, root parts were higher than the top parts in most of the plants. Especially, in Taraxacum, a ratio was over 1.0 in Cr, Ni, and Zn. Therefore, Taraxacum was an accumulator for 3 heavy metals. And Erigeron, Chenopodium, Rumex, Artemisia were good for excluders which had lower than 1.0.
ZnO Varistor with composition of ZnO, $Bi_2O_3$, $Sb_2O_3$, CoO, NiO, $MnO_2$, $Cr_2O_3$, $Al_2O_3$ was fabricated by sintering methods. The purpose of this paper is to present certified voltage-current test data and a summary of electrical characteristics of the ZnO varistors.
The crystallographic and magnetic properties of $Fe_{0.9}Zn_{0.1}Cr_2S_4$ have been studied by X-ray diffractometer(XRD), vibrating sample magnetometer(VSM) and $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy measurement. The crystal structure was determined by the normal cubic spinel of space group Fd3m and the lattice constant was $a_0=9.9967\;{\AA}$. The specific phenomenon which looks like cusp pattern at 77 K was observed in magnetization corves(ZFC : Zero Field Cooling) under 100 Oe applied field. $N\acute{e}el$ temperature($T_N$) was determined to be 153 K by VSM and $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectra. The asymmetric 8-line profile has been observed at 4.2 K, which was attributed by the colossal electric quadupole interaction(${\Delta}E_Q$), ${\Delta}E_Q$ has 2.22 mm/s at 4.2 K. The ${\Delta}E_Q$ abruptly decreases around 77 K and then it disappears above 77 K with diminishing of 8-line pattern. The isomer shift $\delta$ at room temperature is 0.48 mm/s relative to Fe metal, which means that the charge state of Fe ions is ferrous in character.

The most distinguishing character of diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMSs) is a strong interaction between sp-carriers and localized d-spins (sp-d exchange interaction). Recently many "room-temperature (RT) ferromagnetic DMS" have been reported. However, it should be noted that their sp-d exchange interactions have not been confirmed yet. The lack of a clear evidence of the sp-d exchange interaction causes the controversy on the origin of the observed ferromagnetism. For the detection of the sp-d exchange interaction, magneto-optical spectroscopy such as a magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) measurement is the most powerful tool. By using the MCD spectroscopy, we have shown the sp-d exchange interactions in Zn$_{l-x}$Cr$_{x}$Te. Recently, we have obtained the RT ferromagnetism in a Zn$_{l-x}$Cr$_{x}$Te (x = 0.20) film.0) film.
Removal of Pb(Ⅱ), Cu(Ⅱ), Cr(Ⅲ), and Zn(Ⅱ) ions from aqueous solutions using the adsorption process on domestic loess minerals has been investigated. Variations of contact time, pH, adsorption isotherms and selectivity of coexisting ions and leachate were experimental parameters. YDI, YPT and KRT samples diluted in 1% aquous solution which was adjusted pH 10.8, 8.0 and 6.50, respectively. The result of XRD measurement, Quartz was mainly observed in all samples. In the case of KRT sample, Kaolinite, Feldspar, Chlorite consisting of clay minerals shows almost same pattern with YPT samples. Different properties showed from the YDI sample containing Iillite, remarkably. For all the metals, maximum adsorption was observed at 30min∼60min. Adsorption of metal ions on loess minerals were reached an equilibrium by shaking the solution for about 30min. Removal efficiency of Pb(Ⅱ) ion for KRT, YPT and YDI were 84.7%, 92% and 100%, respectively. The Cu(Ⅱ) and Zn(Ⅱ) adsorptivity on KRT showed the low in various pH solution However, those on YPT and YDI were high than 90% except for the pH 2 solution. The orders of adsorptivities for domestic loess minerals showed as following : YPT>KRT>YDI. The adsorption isotherms of Cu(Ⅱ) and Zn(Ⅱ) ions on clay minerals were fitted to a Freundlich's. Freundlich constants(1/n) of KRT and YPT domestic loess minerals were 0.63, 0.97 and 0.36, 0.25, respectively.
This work aims at studying the feasibility of continuous removal of mixed heavy metal ions from simulated zinc plating wastewaters by coupling a microbial fuel cell and a microbial electrolysis cell in batch and continuous modes. The discharging voltage of MFC increased initially from 0.4621 ± 0.0005 V to 0.4864 ± 0.0006 V as the initial concentration of Cr6+ increased from 10 ppm to 60 ppm. Almost complete removal of Cr6+ and low removal of Cu2+ occurred in MFC of the MFC-MEC-coupled system after 8 hours under the batch mode; removal efficiencies (REs) of Cr6+ and Cu2+ were 99.76% and 30.49%. After the same reaction time, REs of nickel and zinc ions were 55.15% and 76.21% in its MEC. Cu2+, Ni2+, and Zn2+ removal efficiencies of 54.98%, 30.63%, 55.04%, and 75.35% were achieved in the effluent within optimum HRT of 2 hours under the continuous mode. The incomplete removal of Cu2+, Ni2+ and Zn2+ ions in the effluent was due to the fact that the Cr6+ was almost completely consumed at the end of MFC reaction. After HRT of 12 hours, at the different sampling locations, Cr6+ and Cu2+ removal efficiencies in the cathodic chamber of MFC were 89.95% and 34.69%, respectively. 94.58%, 33.95%, 56.57%, and 75.76% were achieved for Cr6+, Cu2+, Ni2+ and Zn2+ in the cathodic chamber of MEC. It can be concluded that those metal ions can be removed completely by repeatedly passing high concentration of Cr6+ through the cathode chamber of MFC of the MFC-MEC-coupled system.
This study were conducted to estimate the values of the heavy metal in the fresh water fish and shellfish collected from fish market. The levels of the heavy metal were determined in a total of 319 samples of 11 species of the fresh water fish and 14 species of the shellfish by mercury analyzer and atomic absorption spectrophotometer. The results of this study were summerized as follows; The average contents of the heavy metal in the fresh water fish were Pb 0.075, Hg 0.05:3, Cd 0.002, Cr 0.135, Fe 8.695, Mn 1.078, Zn 9A91, Cu 0.548 mg/ kg. The average contents of the heavy metal in the shellfish were Pb 0.059. Hg 0.007, Cd 0.146, Cr 0.147, Fe 40.808, Mn 7.738, Zn 13.943, Cu 2.7:31 mg/kg. Being compared the average contents of the heavy metal of the fresh water fish with those of shellfish, the average contents of Cd, Fe, Mn, Cu in the shellfish were significantly higher than in the fresh water fish(P<0.001). Depending on the sampling areas, the average contents of the heavy metal were different by districts. The contents of the heavy metal were changed with the seasons(P<0.05).
