  • In this research, the performance of surface covering technique using a white-colored bubble sheet on reducing the cracking due to the plastic, and drying shrinkages for high rise building construction were evaluated by comparing the exposed surface without any surface treatment. From the results of the experiment conducted during fall season, desired results of decreased numbers, length, maximum width, and area of cracking were obtained without a significant difference on heat of hydration and cumulative temperature. Therefore, it is considered that the surface covering technique using bubble sheet is an appropriate method for preventing plastic and drying shrinkage cracking at fall season concrete construction.

  • A sphere-packing problem is to find an arrangement of the spheres to fill as large area of the given space as possible, and covering problems are optimization problems which are dual problems to the packing problems. We generalize the concepts of the weight and the Hamming distance for a binary code to those of Boolean algebra. In this paper, we define a weight and a distance on a Boolean algebra and research some properties of the weight and the distance. Also, we prove the notions of the sphere-packing bound and the Gilbert-Varshamov bound on Boolean algebra.

  • This paper proposes a new coverage algorithm for intelligent robot. Many algorithms for improving the performance of coverage have been focused on minimizing the total coverage completion time. However, if one does not have enough time to finish the whole coverage, the optimal path could be different. To tackle this problem, we propose a new coverage algorithm, which we call MaxCoverage algorithm, for covering maximal area within the deadline. The MaxCoverage algorithm decides the navigation flow by greedy algorithm for Set Covering Problem. The experimental results show that the MaxCoverage algorithm performs better than other algorithms for random deadlines.

  • The effect of a greenhouse-covering material on its indoor environment and on the characteristics of cherry tomatoes grown in it was investigated. The conventional polyethylene (PE) film on the greenhouse roof was replaced by a polycarbonate (PC) sheet, while maintaining the main structural frame intact. Color changes and the formation of water droplets on the PC surface were avoided by applying coextrusion and coating layers. When compared to the PE greenhouse, the PC greenhouse enabled increased light transmittance and thus a higher indoor temperature during both summer and winter. The thermal insulating property of the PC sheet effectively reduced the heating loss by approximately 55% during winter. The cherry tomatoes grown in the PC greenhouse exhibited superior fruit characteristics in terms of size, weight, and sugar content. The total amount of cherry tomatoes produced per unit area (1,000 ㎡) in the PC greenhouse was found to be greater by approximately 19% compared to that in the PE greenhouse.

  • This paper reviewed structure and current status of laws related to patient safety using patient safety law matrix to promote systematic approach in legal system of patient safety. Laws related to patient safety can be divided into three areas: laws for preventing; laws for knowing about; and laws for responding. In the case of Korea, gaps are especially prominent in the areas of laws for knowing about and responding. Patient safety law which will be enacted in July 2016 will fill the gap in the area of laws for knowing about. This law will be comprehensive law, covering the full spectrum of laws related to patient safety. However, after reviewing current patient safety law in Korea, the following drawbacks were identified: absence of code for grasping the current patient safety level; absence of code for mandatory reporting in patient safety reporting system; and absence of code for privilege about patient safety work product. Furthermore we need wider discussions about covering issues of open disclosure, apology law, coroners system, and complaint management system in patient safety law.

  • The Coma cluster serves as an ideal laboratory to study the cluster assembly history. It is known as a typical example of relaxed galaxy clusters. However, recent X-ray, radio and optical observations revealed a number of substructures in Coma. The NGC 4839 group is an interesting substucture in the sense that it is overlappled with the X-ray bright component in the south-west region. Recent hydrodynamical simulations in the literature suggest that the NGC 4839 group came from the north-east direction of Coma, passed the apocenter about 1 Gyr ago, and started a second infall to the Coma core recently. Interestingly a number of E+A galaxies are located along the filament connecting the NGC 4839 group and the Coma core. We are surveying a wide area covering the NGC 4839 group to search for globular clusters and use them to investigate any connection between the globular clusters and the merger scenario of the NGC 4839 group. We utilized Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam archival images of two circular fields with diameter ~1.8 deg, covering the Coma core and the NGC 4839 group. We discuss the results with regard to the formation history of the NGC 4839 group.

  • Temporal and horizontal distributions of surface ozone concentrations covering the Busan metropolitan area were simulated by UAM -V (The Variable grid Urban Airshed Model) that was run with meteorological inputs taken from MM5 for ozone episode day (18 July 1999). UAM-V underestimated the daily maximum ozone con-centration about 14 ppb on average at all monitoring sites within Busan area comparing with observed value. but the correlation between observed and simulated values showed quite significant (R = 0.896, p< 0.01 on average). Higher concentrations of ozone occurred near the city center and industrial areas (western side of city) with high levels of anthropogenic source in the morning, and transport of ozone and its precursors by sea breeze developed in the afternoon contributed to elevated ozone levels in downwind rural areas. Particalarly in slightly downwind area of city center, the highest daily maximum ozone concentration ($\geq$120 ppb) was simulated by UAM-V at 1400 LST. Consequently, local environments including emission distributions and land -sea breeze circulation influenced ozone distributions in the Busan metropolitan area.

  • This study analyzed the growth characteristics of multi-layer planted trees through their growth analysis and attempted to present a management strategy. The subject of research is the Citizen's Forest Area of Seoul Forest Park located in Seoul City. Field surveys were conducted three times over eight years from 2005 when the Seoul Forest Park was created through 2013. Labels were attached to all trees in the target area, and their species, height and DBH were investigated. To identify the growth differences by trees in each area, a detailed tree location map was drawn up for use in the analysis. To check soil health, soil organic matter, soil pH and soil microbial activities were analyzed. It turned out that the growth of the multi-layer planted trees in the target area of research was higher than that of the trees in existing urban parks, and that it was similar to that of trees in natural forests. Through a field survey in the area with a remarkably low growth, high-density planting problem, soil was found to have excess-moisture and there was the problem of Pueraria lobata covering. As a result of the analysis of the soil, it was found that its organic content in the soil was lower; soil pH was higher; and microbial activities in the soil were lower when compared to that of natural forests.

  • An extensive investigation has been made for the possible utilization of polypropylene spunbonded fabrics in rice seedling nursery. Considering the cropping systems available in southern part of Korea, sowing dates were fixed at April 5 and April 20 for single cropping and May 6 and May 26 for double cropping. Nursery period was fixed to 35 days for each sowing date. Four different thickness of polypropylene spunbonded fabrics, 40, 60, 80, 100 g/$m^2$, were tested in rice seedling nursery. The temperature and light intensity were not significantly different among the thickness of polypropylene spunbonded fabrics. Light intensity was significantly reduced in polypropylene spunbonded fabric (72.2 Klux) compared with polyethylene mm (85.5 Klux), however, the reduced light intensity was enough for seedling growth. The temperature in the polypropylene spunbonded fabric covering during low air temperature was higher than that in polyethylene mm tunnel. At transplanting, the rice seedlings grown in polypropylene spunbonded fabric condition was shorter (17cm) but healthier than those in polyethylene mm (23cm). The estimated possible nursery periods using the polypropylene spunbonded fabric covering may start from April 1 at Chinju (plain area in Southern Korea, 20m altitude) and April 15 at Susang (mountainous area, 430m altitude). Labour hours and cost were reduced by about 28% and 48%, respectively.
