  • Multifilamentary superconducting wires exposed to an alternating field generate the coupling loss and hysteresis loss. The geometric shapes of multifilamentary superconducting wire are very complicate, and loss generating mechanism is too. In this paper, coupling loss of superconducting wire in case of twelve filament is calculated by two dimensional numerical analysis, and compared with value of conventional formulus. The basic idea of this calculating method is potential difference of external transverse field.

  • Bragg diffraction of a strong reference beam from a steady-state photorefractive grating is measured experimentally and an analytic prediction is derived from the coupled wave equations of two-beam energy coupling. The relation between Bragg diffraction and two-beam coupling is used to check the mechanism of photorefractive grating formation.

  • In-situ analyzation and detection of real-time chemical reactions can be a significant part in interpreting the underlying mechanism in very reactive chemical reactions. To do this, first we have designed a microfluidic device (MFD) pattern for observation of synthesis of hierarchical nanostructures based on graphene oxide (GO), conjugating the well-known coupling reaction by which the solution of 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC)-mediated coupling is enhanced in the presence of n-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) to make amide bonding, hereafter called as the EDC coupling. Then, we have manufactured microfluidic devices with multiple tens of micrometer-sized channels that can circulate those nanomaterials to be chemically reacted in the channels. These microfluidic devices were made by negative photo lithography and soft lithography. We showed the possibility of using Raman spectroscopy to reveal the basic mechanism of the energy storage applications.

  • The effects of GABA and glutamate on the horizontal cells were explored by an intracellular recording method to discern the mechanisms of receptive field formation by chemical coupling in the catfish outer retina. The results suggest that the horizontal cells of the catfish retina might use GABA as their transmitters and that the GABAergic system contributes to the formation of receptive fields of the horizontal cells. GABAC receptors may be involved in a chemical coupling between horizontal cells and concerned with the depolarizing actions by GABA on horizontal cells in the catfish retina. Since the chloride equilibrium potential is more positive than the dark membrane potential in horizontal cells, GABA released from a horizontal cell may depolarize the neighboring horizontal cells. Thus a chemical coupling between horizontal cells may be formed. $GABA_A$ receptors also may be involved in the negative feedback mechanism between photoreceptor and horizontal cell. And glutamate may be involved in connecting positive and negative feedback systems since it potentiated the GABA's actions. Therefore, it is presumed that large receptive fields in the catfish retina are formed not only by electrical coupling but also by chemical coupling between horizontal cells. And information travels laterally by pathways involving both electrical coupling composed of gap junctions and chemical coupling in the retinal network.

  • Fiber reinforced cementitious composites (FRCC) materials that exhibit strain-hardening and multiple cracking properties under tension were recently developed as innovative building materials for construction. This study aims at exploring the use of FRCC on the seismic performance of coupling beams with conventional reinforcement. Experimental tests were conducted on seven FRCC precast coupling beams with small span-to-depth ratios and one ordinary concrete coupling beam for comparison. The crack and failure modes of the specimens under the low cycle reversed loading were observed, and the hysteretic characteristics, deformation capacity, energy dissipation capacity and stiffness degradation were also investigated. The results show that the FRCC coupling beams have good ductility and energy dissipation capacities compared with the ordinary concrete coupling beam. As the confinement stirrups and span-to-depth ratio increase, the deformation capacity and energy dissipation capacity of coupling beams can be improved significantly. Finally, based on the experimental analysis and shear mechanism, a formula for the shear capacity of the coupling beams with small span-to-depth ratios was also presented, and the calculated results agreed well with the experimental results.

  • The use of new hybrid systems that combine the advantages of steel and reinforced concrete structures has gained popularity. One of these new mixed systems consists of steel beams and reinforced concrete shear wall, which represents a cost- and time-effective type of construction. A number of previous studies have focused on examining the seismic response of steel coupling beams in a hybrid wall system. However, the shear transfer of steel coupling beam-wall connections with panel shear failure has not been thoroughly investigated. The objective of this research was to investigate the seismic performance of steel coupling beamwall connections governed by panel shear failure. To evaluate the contribution of each mechanism, depending upon connection details, an experimental study was carried out The test variables included the reinforcement details that confer a ductile behaviour on the steel coupling beam-wall connection, i.e., the face bearing plates and the horizontal ties in the panel region of steel coupling beam-wall connections. It investigates the seismic behaviour of the steel coupling beams-wall connections in terms of the deformation characteristics. The results and discussion presented in this paper provide background for a companion paper that includes a design model for calculating panel shear strength of the steel coupling beam-wall connections.

  • We analyzed the mechanism of EM emission in telecommunication system and extracted the dominant parameter in EMC design. The I/O cable, ventilation hole and shield design of chassis are important EMC design Issues in telecommunication systems. Because telecommunication systems have much more I/O cables than other electronic products, EMC design of I/O cable is very important in telecommunication systems. Therefore by the method of experimentation and simulation, EM coupling mechanism of I/O cable was analyzed and the design rule for low emission was extracted. On the base of these EMC design rules, EMC design of telecommunication system was executed without complex redesign or debug. The result obtained by these methods was shown in this paper.

  • The purpose of this study is to prevent diagonal tension failure of existing conventional coupling beams, increase the shear strength of conventional coupling beams, and quantitatively evaluate the increase. Steel fibers can improve shear strength and partially change the failure mechanism, but this is the result of research on general RC beams and columns, and research on the shear strength enhancement of conventional coupling beams for steel fiber reinforced concrete is still lacking. Therefore, in order to confirm the increased shear strength caused by steel fiber and the resulting change in failure mechanism, three specimens were fabricated with the steel fiber volume fraction as a variable (0%, 1%, 2%) and repeated loading experiments were performed. As a result, the shear strength of the specimens reinforced with steel fibers (1%, 2%) increased as the shear resistance contribution of concrete increased after the maximum strength was developed compared to the specimens without it (0%).

  • DC bias will cause abnormal vibration of transformers. Aiming at such a problem, transformer vibration affected by DC bias has been studied combined with transformer core and winding vibration mechanism use multi-physical field simulation software COMSOL in this paper. Furthermore the coupling model of electromagnetic-structural force field has been established, and the variation pattern of inner flux density, distribution of mechanical stress, tension and displacement were analyzed based on the coupling model. Finally, an experiment platform has been built up which was employed to verify the correctness of model.
