  • The top spindle, end coupling and slipper metal are important components of the hot rolling process and are used for transmission of heavy rotational power. In this study, kinematic analysis is conducted using finite element method for hot rolling process under slipper metal combination types and operation situations. The structural analysis is performed by applying the combination type, rotational boundary condition of top spindle, end coupling and slipper metal. This study aims to minimize the mechanical problems which might happen in the production process.

Analysis of the Rectangular Microstrip Antenna with Parasitic Elements Considering the Mutual Coupling Characteristics (상호결합 특성이 고려된 기생소자를 갖는 구형 마이크로스트립 안테나 해석)

  • In this paper, E-plane gap-coupled rectangular microstrip antennas with parasitic elements are analyzed. The mutual coupling between the radiating edges is represented as the voltage-dependent current source. The gap coupling between the patch and parasitic element is characterized with the REC(Radiating Edges-Coupling) model, and the conventional transmission line model is used to obtain the equivalent circuit of the antenna. The return loss of the rectangular microstrip antennas with short-and open-circuit parasitic elements are calculated and compared with the measured values. The theoretical values including the mutual coupling are more in agreement with the measured values than the calculated values without the mutual coupling.

  • Curvic coupling of mill turret should maintain disk weight and the cutting resistance which occurs the machining operation and must also have power transmission function. In order to improve machining operation range, the ejecting distance from curvic coupling to the disk must increase as much as possible. But moment is increased by the lack of capacity of the curvic coupling. Increase of moment is the cause of vibration/noise and degradation of machining performance not only stability problem. The manufacturer of mill turret has no the design information between the ejecting distance and the cutting resistance with safety of curvic coupling. Therefore this study describes a finite element analysis model of mill turret using ANSYS workbench. The structural analyses and modal analyses with varying of the ejecting distances and cutting resistances are performed. Finally the equation for relationship between the critical ejecting distance and the cutting resistance is defined under 5 of the safety factor for the maximum von-Mises stress at the curvic coupling.

  • In this study, the transverse and the torsional vibration analyses of a precision dynamic drive system with the magnetic coupling are accomplished. The force of the magnetic coupling is regarded as an equivalent transverse stiffness, which has a nonlinearity as a function of the gap and the eccentricity between a driver and a follower. Such an equivalent stiffness is calculated by and determined by the physical law and the calculated equivalent stiffness is modelled as the truss element. The form of the torque function transmitted through the magnetic coupling is a sinusoidal and such an equivalent angular stiffness, which represents the torque between a driver and a follower, is modelled as a nonlinear spring. The main spindle connected to a follower is assumed to a rigid body. And then finally we have the nonlinear partial differential equation with respect to the angular displacements. Through the procedure mentioned above, we accomplish the results of the torsional vibration analysis in a spindle system with the magnetic coupling.

Comparative analyses of a shield building subjected to a large commercial aircraft impact between decoupling method and coupling method

  • Comparative analyses of a shield building subjected to a large commercial aircraft impact between decoupling method and coupling method are performed in this paper. The decoupling method is applying impact force time-history curves on impact area of the shield building to study impact damage effects on structure. The coupling method is using a model including aircraft and shield building to perform simulation of the entire impact process. Impact force time-history curves of the fuselage, wing and engine and their total impact force time-history curve are obtained by the entire aircraft normally impacting the rigid wall. Taking aircraft structure and impact progress into account some loading areas are determined to perform some comparative analyses between decoupling method and coupling method, the calculation results including displacement, plastic strain of concrete and stress of steel plate in impact area are given. If the loading area is determined unreasonably, it will be difficult to assess impact damage of impact area even though the accurate impact force of each part of aircraft obtained already. The coupling method presented at last in this paper can more reasonably evaluate the dynamic response of the shield building than the decoupling methods used in the current nuclear engineering design.

  • This paper presents the p-convergent coupling element on the basis of the ESSE(equivalent single layer shell element) and the PLLE(partial-linear layerwise element) to analyze laminated composite plates. The ESSE is formulated by the degenerated shell theory, on the other hand, the assumption of the PLLE is piecewise linear variation of the in-plane displacement and a constant value of lateral displacement across the thickness. The proposed finite element model is based on p-convergence approach. The integrals of Legendre polynomials and Gauss-Lobatto technique are chosen to interpolate displacement fields and to implement numerical quadrature, respectively. This study has been focused on the verification of p-convergent element. For this purpose, various finite element multiple models associated with the combination of ESSE and PLLE elements are tested to show numerical stability. The simple examples such as a cantilever beam subjected vertical load and a plate with tension are adopted to evaluate the performance of proposed element.

Closely Spaced Two-Element Folded-Dipole-Driven Quasi-Yagi Array

  • This paper presents a closely spaced two-element folded-dipole-driven quasi-Yagi array with low mutual coupling between adjacent elements. The antenna utilizes a T-junction power divider as the feeding network, with an input impedance of $50{\Omega}$. A microstrip-stub is added to the ground plane in the middle of the two elements to improve the mutual coupling characteristics. The folded dipole driver is connected to a $50{\Omega}$ microstrip line via a broadband microstrip-to-coplanar stripline transition with a quarter radial stub. A mutual coupling of less than -22 dB is measured between two folded-dipole-driven quasi-Yagi antennas with a center-to-center spacing of 30 mm ($0.55{\lambda}_0$ at 5.5 GHz). The proposed quasi-Yagi array yields a measured bandwidth of 4.75~6.43 GHz for the -10 dB reflection coefficient and a gain of 6.14~7.12 dBi within the bandwidth range.

A Study on the Vibration Analysis of an Automobile Steering System (승용차 스티어링 칼럼 시스템의 진동해석에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, in order to analyze dynamic characteristics of an automobile steering system consisting of many components, natural frequencies and transfer functions of each component and the total system are found on a FFT analyzer by experiments. Then, the data are transmitted to a commercial package program, CADA-PC. By analyzing the data, the mode shape of each natural frequency and damping values are obtained. Also, the function of a rubber coupling in column and telescoping effects on system are considered. C.A.E commercial programs are used to compare with the results of experiments. For the finite element modeling, I-DEAS is used. Data processing and post processing are operated on NASTRAN and XL, respectively. The ball-bearing and the linkage of shaft with column are modeled by spring element. Stiffness is modified from the results of experiments. The results of those show close agreement. In the mode shape of total system, wheel mode is dominant at lower frequency, while the column mode is main mode at higher. The role of rubber coupling in vibration isolation is clear on mode shape. Telescoping function makes natural frequency of column changed.

  • We extend a p-hierarchical decomposition of the second degree finite element space of N$\acute{e}$d$\acute{e}$lec for tetrahedral meshes in three dimensions given in [1] to meshes with hexahedral elements, and derive p-hierarchical decompositions of the second degree finite element space of Raviart-Thomas in two dimensions for triangular and quadrilateral meshes. After having proved stability of these subspace decompositions and requiring certain saturation assumptions to hold, we construct a local a posteriori error estimator for fem and bem coupling of a time-harmonic electromagnetic eddy current problem in $\mathbb{R}^3$. We perform some numerical tests to underline reliability and efficiency of the estimator and test its usefulness in an adaptive refinement scheme.

Compliance Analysis for Effective handling of Peg-In/Out-Hole Tasks Using Robot Hands (로봇 손을 이용한 팩의 조립 및 분해 작업을 효율적으로 수행하기 위한 컴플라이언스 해석)

  • This paper provides a guideline for the determination of compliance characteristics and the proper location of the compliance center in typical peg-in-hole and peg-out-hole tasks using hands. We first observe the fact that some of coupling stiffness elements cannot be planned arbitrarily. The given peg-in/out-hole tasks are classified into two contact styles. Then, we analyze concluded of the operational siffness matrix, which achieve the give peg-in/out-hole tasks effectively for each case. It is concluded that the location of the compliance center on the peg and the coupling stiffness element existing between the translational and the rotational direction play ompliance on the peg and the coupling siffness element existing between the translational and the rotational direction play important roles for successful peg-in/out-hole tasks. The analytic results verified through simulations.
