  • The contact acoustic emission (AE) monitoring system is time-consuming and costly for monitoring concrete structures in large scope, in addition, the great difference in acoustic impedance between air and concrete makes the detection process inconvenient. In this work, we broaden the conventional AE source localization method for concrete to the non-contact (air-coupled) micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) microphones array, which collects the energy-rich leaky Rayleigh waves, instead of the relatively weak P-wave. Finite element method was used for the numerical simulations, it is shown that the propagation velocity of leaky Rayleigh waves traveling along the air-concrete interface agrees with the corresponding theoretical properties of Lamb wave modes in an infinite concrete slab. This structures the basis for implementing a non-contact AE source location approach. Based on the experience gained from numerical studies, experimental studies on the proposed air-coupled AE source location in concrete slabs are carried out. Finally, it is shown that the locating map of AE source can be determined using the proposed system, and the accuracy is sufficient for most field monitoring applications on large plate-like concrete structures, such as tunnel lining and bridge deck.

  • To predict vibrational energy density of simple structural-acoustic coupled systems in medium-to-high frequency ranges, Power Flow Finite Element Method(PFFEM) is used, and PFFEM sofiware, PFADS has been developed for the vibration predictions and analysis of coupled system structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges. However, it needs to consider vibro-acoustic coupled analysis to get more accurate results. Prior to implement vibro-acoustic coupled analysis functions in PFADS, research on vibro-acoustic coupled analysis using PFFEH is performed for simple models. These predictions include the indirect transmission path associated, and also the direct transmission path, and the formulation is extended to structural system model by using appropriate modifications to structural-acoustic and acoustic-acoustic joint matrices. Concerning the waves in plate and acoustic, it is possible to calculate the structural-acoustic full matrix of a model using PFFEM, and the formulations developed are implemented for two rooms surrounded by plates.

  • The pounding phenomenon in adjacent structures happens in severing earthquakes that can cause great damages. Connecting neighboring structures with active and semi-active control devices is an effective method to avoid mutual colliding between neighboring buildings. One of the most important issues in control systems is applying online control force. There will be a time delay if the prose of producing control force does not perform on time. This paper proposed a time-delay compensation method in coupled structures control, with semi-active Magnetorheological (MR) damper. This method based on Newmark's integration is adopted to mitigate the time-delay effect. In this study, Lyapunov's direct approach is employed to compute demanded voltage for MR dampers. Using Lyapunov's direct algorithm guarantees the system stability to design a controller based on feedback. Because of the strong nonlinearity of MR dampers, the equation of motion of coupled structures becomes an involved equation, and it is impossible to solve it with the common time step methods. In present paper modified Newmark-Beta integration based on the instantaneous optimal control algorithm, used to solve the involved equation. In this method, the response of a coupled system estimated base on optimal control force. Two MDOF structures with different degrees of freedom are finally considered as a numeric example. The numerical results show, the Newmark compensation is an efficient method to decrease the negative effect of time delay in coupled systems; furthermore, instantaneous optimal control algorithm can estimate the response of structures suitable.

  • Numerical analysis techniques have been applied to obtain the vibroacoustic characteristics of the simplified model of a passenger-car cabin. Two kinds of coupled vibration-acoustic analysis, such as one-way coupling and full coupling, have been carried out via the interface between the results of vibration analysis by FEM and acoustic analysis by BEM. The comparison of two coupled analysis results show the fluid-structure interaction in terms of the coupled effect of the vibration and noise.

  • A control system design based on coupled nonlinear oscillators (CNOs) for a self- organized swarm system is presented. In this scheme, agents self-organize to flock and arrange group formations through attractive and repulsive forces among themselves using CNOs. Virtual agents are also used to create richer group formation patterns. The objective of the swarm control in this paper is to follow a moving target with a final group formation in the shortest possible time despite some obstacles. The simulation results have shown that the proposed scheme can effectively construct a self-organized multi-agent swarm system capable of group formation and group immigration despite the emergence of obstacles.

  • The concrete bridge is likely to produce fatigue cracks during long period of service due to the moving vehicular loads and the degeneration of materials. This paper deals with the time-frequency analysis of a coupled bridge-vehicle system. The bridge is modeled as an Euler beam with breathing cracks. The vehicle is represented by a two-axle vehicle model. The equation of motion of the coupled bridge-vehicle system is established using the finite element method, and the Newmark direct integration method is adopted to calculate the dynamic responses of the system. The effect of breathing cracks on the dynamic responses of the bridge is investigated. The time-frequency characteristics of the responses are analyzed using both the Hilbert-Huang transform and wavelet transform. The results of time-frequency analysis indicate that complicated non-linear and non-stationary features will appear due to the breathing effect of the cracks.

  • This paper represents an adaptive position controller with the disturbance observer for multi-axis servo system. The overall control system consists of three parts : the position controller, the disturbance observer with free parameters and cross-coupled controller which enhances contouring performance by reducing errors. Using two-degrees-of freedom conception, we design the command input response and the closed loop characteristics independently. The servo system can improve the closed loop characteristics without affecting the command input response. The characteristics of the closed loop system is improved by suppressing disturbance torque effectively with the disturbance observer. Moreover, the cross-coupled controller enhances tracking performance. Thus total position control performance is improved. Finally, the performance of the proposed controller shows that it improves the contouring performance along with the reference trajectory in the XY-table.

  • This paper deals with the free vibration analysis of a dynamical coupled system: flexible gravity dam- compressible rectangular reservoir. The finite element method is used to compute the natural frequencies and modal shapes of the system. Firstly, the reservoir and subsequently the dam is modeled by classical 8-node elements and the natural frequencies plus modal shapes are calculated. Afterwards, a new 21-node element is introduced and the same procedure is conducted in which an efficient method is employed to carry out the integration operations. Finally, the coupled dam-reservoir system is modeled by solely one 21-node element and the free vibration of dam-reservoir interaction system is investigated. As an important result, it is clearly concluded that the one high-order element treats more precisely than the eight-node elements, since the first one utilizes fifth-degree polynomials to construct the shape functions and the second implements polynomials of degree two.
