A dynamic analysis of a horseshoe_shaped tunnel near to cavity was performed to study the effect of the cavity on the dynamic behavior of the tunnel. In order to obtain the dynamic response of the tunnel embedded in a semi-infinite domain, a hybrid numerical technique was primarily developed. A dynamic fundamental solution in frequency domain for multi-layered half planes was derived and subsequently incorporated in the boundary element method. Coupling of the boundary element method for the far field with the finite element method for the near field is made by imposing compatibility condition of a displacement at the interface. The boundary element method is then coupled with the finite element method, which is utilized to model the near field including the tunnel and the cavity. In order to demonstrate the validity of the proposed technique, dynamic responses of single and multiply-layered semi-infinite structural systems are obtained by using the Kicker waveform and investigated in the limestone layer to find how the being and the location of the cavity affect the dynamic characteristics of the system.
Flow-excited acoustic resonance in ducted cavities can produce high levels of acoustic pressure that may lead to severe damage. This occurs when the flow instability over the cavity mouth, which is created by the free shear layer separation at the upstream edge, is coupled with one of the acoustic modes in the accommodating enclosure. Acoustic resonance can cause high amplitude fluctuating acoustic loads in and near the cavity. Such acoustic loads could cause damage in sensitive applications such as aircraft weapon bays. Therefore, the suppression and mitigation of these resonances are very important. Much of the work done in the past focused on the fluid-dynamic oscillation mechanism or suppressing the resonance by altering the edge condition at the shear layer separation. However, the effect of the downstream edge has received much less attention. This paper considers the effect of the impingement edge geometry on the acoustic resonance excitation and Strouhal number values of the flow instabilities in a ducted shallow cavity with an aspect ratio of 1.0. Several edges, including chamfered edges with different angles and round edges with different radii, were investigated. In addition, some downstream edges that have never been studied before, such as saw-tooth edges, spanwise cylinders, higher and lower steps, and straight and delta spoilers, are investigated. The experiments are conducted in an open-loop wind tunnel that can generate flows with a Mach number up to 0.45. The study shows that when some edge geometries, such as lower steps, chamfered, round, and saw-tooth edges, are installed downstream, they demonstrate a promising reduction in the acoustic resonance. On the other hand, higher steps and straight spoilers resulted in intensifying the acoustic resonance. In addition, the effect of edge geometry on the Strouhal number is presented.

A structural-acoustic coupling problem involving fluid in a cavity divided with flexible walls and porous materials is investigated in this paper. In many practical problems, the use of finite elements to discretize the fluid region leads to large stiffness and mass matrices. But, since the acoustic boundary element discretization requires to put elements only on the surface of structure, the size of matrices is reduced considerably. Here, we developed a numerical analysis program for the structural-acoustic coupling problems of the multi-region cavity, using boundary elements for the fluid regions and finite elements for the structure. By considering sound transmission through layered systems placed in a cavity, the accuracy of the coupled acoustical-structural finite element model has been verified by comparing its transmission loss predictions with analytical sloutions. Example problems are included to investigate the characteristics of the multi-region structural-acoustic coupling system with porous material.
The effect of oil supply pressure on the performance of vapor cavitated short squeeze film dampers is examined. Vapor cavitation is characterized by film rupture occurring as a result of evaporating oils. The pressure of vapor cavity in the film is almost zero in absolute pressure and nearly constant. Pan's model about the shape of vapor cavity is utilized for studying the effect of vapor cavitation on the damping capability of a short squeeze film damper. As the level of oil supply pressure is increasing, vapor cavitation is suppressed so that the direct damping coefficient increases and the cross coupled damping coefficient decreases. Futhermore, the analysis of the unbalance responses of a rigid rotor supported on cavitated squeeze film dampers shows that a significant reduction in rotor amplitude and force transmissibility is possible by controlling the oil supply pressure into short squeeze film dampers.
This paper illustrates the sound vibration phenomenon of mono type TV set produced by spearker and suggests guidelines for reducing the noise induced by the sound vibrations. In order to illustrate the sound vibration phenomenon, the structural acoustic coupled analysis for the grill and cavity of speaker and structural analysis for main frame are performed. To veify the structural analysis results, experimental modal test is carried out. It is found that the acoustic excitation in the cavity is negligible and main sound vibrations occur near the bottom of TV set. An improved model is found by doing structural modifications based on structural analysis and sound vibration tests are performed to verify the validation of the improved model. The obtained results are applied to similar models and design guide lines for noise reduction are suggested.
Semi-Solid Forming Process(Thixoforming, Rheocasting) is a novel forming process which has some advantages compared with conventional die casting, squeeze casting and hot/cold forging. In this study. Thixoforming process was selected as analysis processing in terms of billet handling and easiness of automation process. The Thixoforming process consists of reheating process of billet, billet handling, filling inot the die cavity and solidification of SSM part. In filling process, two rheology models which were Newtonian and Non-Nettonian model (Ostwald-deWaele)were verified with experimental results. The Ostwald-deWaele model shows the good agreement to the real flow and filling phenomena in die cavity. To give a boost the economical efficiency of Thixoforming process and to ensure the good forming result, reheating device coupled die set was proposed and the initial billet temperature for system that was found from experimental resluts. This study presents an overview of application of numerical analysis for simulation of semi-solid metal forming process to reduce the lead time for development of manufacturing part in industrial field.

The anisotropy and shape of distributed piezopolymer actuator have advantages over isotropic piezo ceramic materials, since these features of PVDF can be utilized as another design variable in control application. This study is interested in the reduction of sound transmission through elastic plate into interior space by using the PVDF actuator. The plate-cavity system is adopted as a test problem. The vibration of composite plate and the sound fields through plate are analyzed by using the coupled finite element and boundary element method. Some numerical simulations are performed on sound transmission through elastic plates. To investigate the effects of anisotropy and shape of distributed piezopolymer actuator, various kinds of distributed PVDF actuators are applied in sound control simulation for isotropic and anisotropic plates. The PVDF actuators applied are different from each other in their shapes and laminate angles. The results of control simulation show that the control effectiveness of distributed PYDF actuator can be enhanced by using the coupling between shape of actuator and vibration modes of structure and the anisotropy of piezoelectric properties of PVDF.

The cavitating noise of underwater propeller is considered numerically in this study. The main purpose of this research is to analyze these noise sources from marine propeller. The approach for investigation is a potential based panel method coupled with acoustic analogy. To predict propeller sheet cavitation noise, the blade surface cavity is considered as a single valued pulsating volume of vapor attached to the blade surface. The time dependent cavity volume data are used for noise prediction. Furthermore, we analyze hydrofoil cavitation bubble behavior and noise using Eulerian/Lagrangian approach. Through this study, we can analyze dominant noise source of marine propeller and provide a basis for proper noise control strategies.
Terphenyl dialdehyde 6 was obtained in 17.4% overall yield through oxidative coupling, methylation, and bisformylation reactions starting from p-cresol, and then coupled intermolecularly using McMurry reaction to give 22-membered macrocylic host 7 in 14.4% yield. In crystal structure host 7 has $C2_v$ symmetry with cis-cis configuration of two double bonds. Four methoxy groups adjacent to double bonds and the other two methoxy groups are directed opposite side, forming a cavity which can nest a guest. The cavity is filled by two inward-turned methyl groups out of four methoxy groups adjacent to double bonds. The kinetically controlled reaction mechanism leading to cis product was proposed. The cation binding properties of 7 were obtained using picrate extraction experiment from $D_2O\; into\; CDCl_3\; at\; 25^{\circ}C$. All the spherical cations (from $Li^+ to NH4^+)$ are complexed with free energies of $7.3{\pm}0.3$ kcal/mol.
A method aimed at improving the beam-wave interaction efficiency by changing the coupling slot configuration has been proposed in the study of extended interaction oscillators (EIOs). The dispersion characteristics, coupling coefficient and interaction impedance of the high-frequency structure based on different types of coupling slots have been investigated. Four types of coupled cavity structures with different layouts of the coupling slots have been compared to improve the beam-wave interaction efficiency, so as to analyze the beam-wave interaction and practical applications. In order to determine the improvement of the coupling slot to a coupled cavity circuit in an EIO, we designed four nine-gap EIOs based on the coupled cavity structure with different coupling slot configurations. With different operating frequencies and voltages takes into consideration, beam voltages from 27 to 33 kV have been simulated to achieve the best beam-wave interaction efficiency so that the EIOs are able to work in the $2{\pi}$ mode. The influence of the Rb and the ds on the output power is also taken into consideration. The Rb is the radius of the electron beam, and the ds is the width of the coupling slot. The simulation results indicate that a single-slot-type EIO has the best beam-wave interaction efficiency. Its maximum output power is 2.8 kW and the efficiency is 18% when the operating voltage is 31 kV and electric current is 0.5 A. The output powers of these four EIOs that were designed for comparison are not less than 1.7 kW. The improved coupling-slot configurations enables the extended interaction oscillator to meet the different engineering requirements better.
